TRIABUNNA TEST 28 March 2015 FISHING RULES Game Fishing is a sport and the GFCNT is affiliated with governing bodies such as the Tasmanian Game Fishing Association and the Game Fishing Association of Australia (GFAA). For this reason all anglers competing in this competition must fish and obey the current fishing rules set by the above bodies. These rules can be viewed on the web at www.gfaa.asn.au or by reading the current 2013 GFAA Journal. SOME BASIC RULES Use approved game fishing rods and proper line class line The overall length of leaders, doubles, knots and hooks is governed by size of line used. Check they are correct as we will be checking them on the day (there will be an area set aside for any angler to per check their gear prior to the event on the day at the venue) No part of any mammal shall be used as berley No berleying before start time Only one angler can strike fight and catch the fish and strictly no handing the rod by another person during any part of the capture After a fish has taken the bait and it has been ‘strike’ you cannot leave the rod in the rod holder During the capture you cannot rest any part of the rod on any part of the boat or similar. A person can hold onto you but not touch the rod. There are length restrictions in regard to gaff lengths and flying gaff rope lengths The fish must not be mutilated (cut, gouged, shot etc.) in any way during the catch except for gaff marks or minor damage that does not affect the fighting capacity of the fish. Juniors are only eligible for Junior prizes however a Junior may be entered as an Adult and therefore be eligible for prizes overall. TAG AND RELEASE There are rules for Tag and Release that can be viewed on the web at www.gfaa.asn.au or by reading the current 2014 GFAA Journal. In addition to these rules are also new rule requirements for tag and release stated below: A special Shark Tag Applicator Needle is required. ( Available from all good fishing and tackle stores) Only Certified Shark Tags are to be used. All Tag & Release fish must have photographic evidence and must show the date and time on the photo and be provided to the Committee on request and we will be viewing all photos. Tag Cards must have line class and capture time written at top of cards. No Gaffs to be used. Release Capture ASAP, trying not to harm the fish in any way. Cut off hook as close to mouth in a safe and possible manner. FAILURE TO ADHERE TO ANY OF THESE RULES WILL CONSTITUTE THE CATCH DISQUALIFIED. TIGHT LINES!!!! Page 1 TRIABUNNA TEST 28 March 2015 This competition has been recently added to our event calendar and the GFCNT would like to try it as a one day competition so that members can enjoy what Seafest has to offer on the Sunday. The GFCNT would appreciate feedback from members after the event and their preference for a one or two day competition in future. 1 Qualifications: This contest is open to any team of no less than two (2) anglers who are financial members of a Game Fishing Club affiliated with the Game Fishing Association of Australia. Please note that if you have anglers on your boat who wish to fish but are not members of a GFAA affiliated club, your boat must be entered in the Triabunna Tryout and you will not be eligible for prizes in this competition. Entry fee for the Competition is: GFAA Affiliated Members: $50.00 per adult and $15.00 per Junior/Small Fry (16 and under)(Please note: for Juniors/Small Fry to be eligible for the major draw prizes they must enter as an adult) For details on how to become a member of the GFCNT contact Club President - Jason Ivory 0409 262 406 or Secretary - Kelsey Hartland 0409 257 948 (GFCNT Annual Membership = $75.00 Adults $15.00 Juniors) 2 Fishing Rules: Shall be the current rules of the Game Fishing Association of Australia and any other rules set by the GFCNT. 3 Fishing Times: Saturday 28th March 2015 , 7am to 4.00pm Should the event be cancelled due to the weather, prizes may be allocated by random draw for entrants. No refunds will be issued as the clubs expenses will be the same as if fishing occurred. All boats must leave from Triabunna boat ramp. NOTE: Mandatory Briefing - 7.30pm on Friday 27th March 2015 at the Spring Bay Hotel 4 Weigh-in: All fish are to be weighed in at the weigh-in station at Triabunna Wharf area by the Weigh master nominated for the competition. It is mandatory that all fish are gilled and gutted (at sea), sharks gutted only, before being weighed. If, in the opinion of an angler a fish is a possible record breaker, the fish may be weighed and recorded and is then gilled and gutted and then weighed for the contest. Weigh in Times: 3.00pm - 6.00pm Saturday 28th March 2015 Presentation: 5 12.00pm on Sunday 29th March 2015 at the Spring Bay Hotel Line class: There will be line class restrictions. For a fish to be eligible for weighing it must be a minimum weight of 4kg cleaned and the fish must exceed the line class used. The minimum weight for sharks and marlin will be 60kg. Page 2 TRIABUNNA TEST 6 Tag and Release: Tournament tags will be used and must be returned on both competition days during the weigh in. A photo or video evidence must be produced to the committee for any fish tagged and released. 7 Control: Contest will be under the sole control of the contest committee and any decisions will be final and binding 8 Safety: Boats must be equipped with the minimum safety equipment as specified by M.A.S.T. Radio schedules will be conducted at ten minutes past every other hour, on channel 73. You must report your position on the grid map provided. If you fail to log on you are not fishing. If you miss a sked you will be given a warning. Miss the second sked and face disqualification. You must log off as your return to port. 9 Entries: Minimum of two entries per boat must be received by the 20 March 2015 by the Secretary - GFCNT, 41 Woolven Street, Youngtown TAS 7249 or scanned copies to [email protected] PLEASE NOTE: Before entry to this Fishing Competition can be accepted the Boat Owner must supply a copy of current Insurance, Trailer Registration and the Safety form in this Booklet to the secretary. 10 Protests: Any protests must be made in writing and handed to the committee by 10.00am Sunday 11 Prize Categories (please note this is a 1 fish, 1 prize competition): Including but not limited to Major Prize Draw Heaviest Game Fish Overall Tag and Release overall (boat) Best Lady Game Fish Angler 12 Boundaries: All anglers and boats must stay within the boundaries outlined on the grid map supplied. 13 Weather Committee: In the event of foul weather, to avoid taking unnecessary risks, the Competition committee will decide whether the day be a competition day or not. Boats should try to establish early morning radio contact with base weather committee before proceeding to sea. The committee accepts no responsibility for decisions made by individual boat crews who must decide whether or not to put to sea. No catch is eligible in the competition until the start of fishing is confirmed by base. No berleying or fishing is to take place until the fishing start time as advertised. In the event of foul weather after the boats have put to sea, the Committee will confer and decide whether or not the competition will be called off for the remainder of the day. All fish caught before this time will be eligible. The decision regarding return to port remains with the competitors.
