NC and has been singing since she learned to walk. After pursuing
her art degree at East Carolina University, she toured around the

musicians from her duo with William Seymour on upright bass to her
full band, known as Rebekah Todd & the Odyssey which consists
of a 6 piece including keys and a horn section.
Thursday, Feb 12th: HWYL - Celtic Rock
Hwyl, formed in May 2006, consists of Rhiannon Jones, vocals,
guitar and fiddle; Cindy Jones, hand drums and back up
vocals; Shannon Blackwood, bass guitar; Jeff Lindsey, drums.
A band of timeless gypsies of pirated descent and Celtic class.
Hwyl is a Welsh word that means many things including fun,
cheers, sudden spark of enthusiasm, wind in your sails and much
more. The music sounds like 60s rock with reggae and Celtic air.

VIBRANT REMEMBRANCES:
Exemplary Memoirs
with DR. LISA ALDRED at Covenant Place
This class will look at works that exemplify the
various components of a memoir. James McBride
vibrantly depicts his childhood in The Color of Water
as he simultaneously uncovers the secrets of his
mother's, while also addressing issues of race & antiSemitism. Lillian Hellman's Pentimento, demonstrates
character development in memoir; each chapter is a
character sketch of someone important in her life.
Depiction of an historical moment is exemplified by
Joan Didion's, The White Album, a memoir chronicling
the events and issues of the late 1960s. Maxine Hong
Kinston's, The Woman Warrior, artistically explores
cultural roots and gender roles. The highlighting of
setting and location is masterfully created by Ernest
Hemingway in A Moveable Feast, a portrait of
expatriate writers & artists in 1920s Paris.
