The Year 2015 has started with intense pressure due to challenges associated with the liquidity crunch being experienced
currently. The return to school for a significant number of pupils was slow, as parents battled to fully kit their children for the new
term. We are grateful, however, that the majority of the pupils are now back, and we have touched the ‘academic ground running.’
Theme for the Year 2015 - Year of Consolidating our Distinctiveness
We are excited about 2015 as it is a special year for us. In terms of age, we have been in existence for 28 years and have
established a unique character and tradition for ourselves. We are proud of the identity we carry and seek to consolidate it in 2015.
We appreciate all our stakeholders who jealously guard our identity and commit themselves to adding even greater value. We are
distinct in our Christian faith and are unwavering in fulfilling our Vision. MCC vision is;
 To educate pupils from a Christian perspective in a Christian environment for responsible adulthood (Proverbs 22:6)
 To equip pupils with life skills for further education, work and service, through sound teaching and learning techniques, aimed at
achieving effectiveness and excellence (Ephesians 4:11-15)
 To impact pupils and the community with Christian values through motivated, committed, highly qualified teachers
(Isaiah 55:4-6)
Staff Changes
We welcome four new members of staff who have joined us this term. Mrs Magada joined us from Arundel School and is teaching
French. Miss Chirimuta joined us from Midlands Christian Training Centre to teach Thinking Skills, English and Chinese. Professor
Shi Jian from the University of Zimbabwe - Confucius Institute is taking some of our Chinese classes. We are very excited about this
development as it not only cements our professional association with the Confucius Institute, but it also offers our students unique
exposure to the Chinese language and culture. For Computing Science, another Mr T. Mashungu has joined us coming with some
wealth of experience in IT, having worked for Zones Incorporated and Puppet Zones in USA.
Association of Christian Schools International (ACSI) Accreditation
As a school we have embarked on a voluntary process to get accredited by ACSI. This can best be viewed as an ongoing process of
institutional improvement and development through which we strive for educational and spiritual excellence. We would like to be
recognised and assessed for our standards, performance, integrity and quality. We have agreed to a process of ongoing review to
strengthen and improve the effectiveness of our College and the quality of instruction for the population we serve. In a nutshell, MCC
is reaching for Excellence through accreditation and continuous improvement for higher achievement.
The accreditation team comprising Anna-Marie Russell (South Africa) and Mike Epp (USA) will visit MCC on 16 and 17 March 2015.
We are excited about their inspection visit as it opens new horizons of excellence for us as a Christian education institution. Some of
the benefits which we are going to enjoy as an accredited school include;
 Membership Surveys to assist us in budgeting, planning, benchmarking and Spiritual Formation assessment
 School evaluations and reviews to assess the school’s effectiveness in academics, leadership and management
 World-wide connections, tours to Canada and Australia and the International Christian Educators Conference (ICEC) in Africa
 Student exchange programmes (nationally and internationally)
 National Student Leadership Conferences in South Africa
 Curriculum Support : Training in Purposeful Design Science and Maths in South Africa
 Professional Development : Workshops, conferences and events, including Educators, Leadership and Student Conferences
offered in South Africa or on request in neighbouring countries
 Policy Governance Workshops to assist our School Board to be more effective (offered on request)
 Networking : Opportunities to reach out to others of like mind (Christian schools worldwide)

2014 Examination Results
We are delighted that most of the candidates across the board were well-rewarded for their hard work in 2014.
Form Two Mathematics
A new academic record was broken in the November 2014 Cambridge examinations. Our pioneer Form Two class to write ’O’ Level
Core Mathematics did very well. In a class of 29 pupils a pass rate of 94% was achieved with only 2 of the candidates failing. We
congratulate the pupils and the teacher for a job well done. The mission to break other records continues as this same class is now
working towards writing ’O’ Level Extended Mathematics in Form Three this November 2015.

Consolidating Academic Excellence
In an effort to stretch our pupils to improve their attainment, several strategies and incentives have
been put in place. All pupils in Form One to Four are being pushed to achieve passes in at least 5
of their subjects throughout the year. Those in Lower and Upper Six have to achieve at least a ‘C’
grade in all their subjects. For boarders, those who fail to achieve these targets will have all their
prep sessions in the dining hall under supervision. On weekends, extra prep sessions have been
organised for them. Senior pupils who fail to achieve these academic targets will also forfeit their
privilege of keeping their phones. Thus, like juniors, will now surrender phones and get them back
during the weekend.
All pupils who fail to get the indicated targets will also be placed on Special Report for the whole
assessment period in question. Compulsory extra lessons have also been arranged for all pupils
in this category which will happen on Tuesday afternoon during sports time (3:30 to 5pm), Fridays
2 to 4:30pm and Saturdays 8:30am to 1pm. We are also actively considering provision of extra
lessons during exeat weekend for all pupils who do not apply themselves in the course of the
term. It is sincerely hoped that these measures will see every pupil applying themselves to full
capacity and achieving acceptable grades.

Mother-Daughter / Father-Son Camps
The Father-Son Camp planned for this term has been postponed to the second term due to unforeseen venue problems. The Mother-Daughter Camp will still happen on the weekend of
20 - 22 March. Details for this Camp will be provided later.
Management Change
Mr T. Mashungu (Vice Principal 2) has been appointed Headmaster Designate for Gateway High
School. He assumes duty on 1 May 2015. We are happy for him and wish him God’s guidance
as he will further the cause of Christian education in our sister school.
Parents Assembly AGM
All parents and guardians are invited to attend an AGM on Thursday 19 February 2015 at
11:30am. This event coincides with the start of this term’s exeat weekend. It is an opportunity for
stakeholders to discuss development projects for the College, among other issues.
NB: A parent or guardian wishing
to withdraw a child must give
sufficient written notice (as per
Acceptance of Place
Agreement) at least a full month
before the child’s proposed
final term, failing which, fees for
the following term will be payable
in full, whether or not the child
returns to the College. Security
deposit refunds are processed a
month after the student has left
school. Please send a signed

deposit is to be transferred.

the others whom we call successful. No man ever achieved worthwhile success who did not, at one time
or other, find himself with at least one foot hanging well over the brink of failure.
