Overview
Providing a context

ICT can be a strategic tool in making Microfinance Institutions (MFIs) more efficient and effective. MFIs can
reach more people in a more economical way by implementing the right Management Information System
(MIS). While a few MFIs are making good use of technology, the majority are facing difficulties in getting the
right solution.

The back-office MIS is the backbone of any Information System solution and yet it has not received much
attention. MFIs, whether large or small, need to have a strong back-office MIS before attempting to deploy

Introduction
Company background
•
Microlynxe Systems Limited (“Microlynxe”) was established in 2005 by young Ghanaian IT expert and
software developer, Prince Patrick Adjei. Mainly driven by its young founder, Microlynxe initially focused on
developing add-on solutions for various microfinance MIS used in Africa such as SMS messaging and
reporting tools. Other products offered included custom-made solutions for several clients in the financial
services industry.

As the Company grew, and as Patrick spent subsequent years providing IT consulting services to more than
20 MFIs across Sub-Saharan Africa, it became clear that the need for a suitable core banking system
systematically designed with the specific needs of African MFIs and banks in mind i.e. customer care, fraud
prevention, seamless reporting, branchless banking, etc. was real and increasingly pressing.
•
Essentially, theoretical definition of banking has lead to flawed designs offered by sophisticated international
developers but with no practical experience in Africa, often leading to productivity loss as institutions that
run them usually require excessive constant customisation of the software to adapt to their operations.
•
Today, Microlynxe is a specialised software developer focusing on building information systems for the
financial services industry, with an emphasis on the microfinance sector. Its main products are off-the-shelf
yet highly customisable solutions for microfinance institutions, banks, as well as savings and loans companies
including a core banking system and add-on solutions (branchless/mobile banking system, electronic alert
system, electronic archiving, a reporting tool, etc.). Other products marketed by Microlynxe are a hospital
management software and switch solutions for the medical insurance industry, pension administration
systems for the pension fund industry, and other specialised applications as per client specific needs.

Passionate about microfinance success in Africa

Prince Patrick Adjei (Managing Director): Patrick (Ms, MCSD, DNIIT) is an ICT professional with over 14 years
experience. Patrick has an exceptional knowledge in software engineering, Analyzing Requirement and
Defining Solutions Architecture (ARDSA), Database design, maintenance & administration, Information
Systems Security and Information and Communication Systems Implementation working with banks and
MFIs across Africa. Patrick provided both technical and advisory services during Ghana’s Cedi
redenomination exercise nationwide. With his specialized skills in databases, he converted 27 databases
within 24 hours from the old to the new currency without any significant traceable financial errors for banks
and other financial institutions. In addition to his many professional qualifications, Patrick holds a Masters in
Management Information Systems from the University of Liverpool, London as well as a Masters in
Information Systems from the McGrath Institute of Business, Australia.
•
Privat Fone (Strategy Director): with his broad experience in business, Privat plays a pivotal role at
Microlynxe in ensuring an excellent understanding of client business needs and that solutions designed are
aligned with the client’s overall corporate strategy. Privat boasts over 13 years investment banking

Science in Finance and Investment from the National University of Science and Technology (Zimbabwe) and
has passed Level 2 of the CFA programme. Privat is fluent in French and English.
