WESLEY’S VISION STATEMENT
“Our vision as the body of Christ at Wesley Church is to be a
dynamic, spirit-filled congregation serving the community and world
through the transforming love of Jesus.”
TRANSFIGURATION SUNDAY
February 15, 2015
Our Lenten Series for this year is going to focus on "adding" things
to our lives instead of taking things away for Lent. A booklet with
reflections on the lent theme and scripture readings will be given
out at worship services on Sunday, February 15th. We encourage
that these booklets are brought to church every Sunday in Lent as
they are incorporated into the sermon theme:

LENTEN MISSION MEAL BENEFITS OUTREACH MINISTRY:
STOP HUNGER NOW
Stop Hunger Now Day (Saturday, April 18, 2015) is a nice example of
how a church works in this world. Several years ago we opened our gym
to a group of Rotarians who were interested in the Stop Hunger Now
international feeding program. Stop Hunger Now is a church-based
initiative that has supplied more than 138 MILLION meals around the
globe since it began this food-packaging and distribution program in
2005! About 200 people will converge on the gymnasium to prepare
(both pack and ship) over 45,000 nutritious meals to feed kids at schools
in food-poor countries in places like Uganda and Guatemala and Sierra
Leone. That sounds like ministry! More information about this great
event will be announced upcoming newsletters.

All scouts will be recognized on Sunday,
February 22nd at both worship services. We
ask that all scouts wear their uniforms.

Lord, it seems so long ago that we heard your words at
Jesus’ baptism. You reminded us that he is your beloved
Son with whom you are well pleased. Again today we
hear your words that we are to listen to him, to pay
attention. Open our hearts this day, Lord, to hear the
words of Jesus, to follow in his footsteps, and to serve
You. For we ask this in Christ’s Name. AMEN.

TRANSFIGURATION SUNDAY
Why does the celebration of the Transfiguration take
place just before Lent in the United Methodist Church?
We celebrate the revelation of Christ's glory "before
the passion" so that we may "be strengthened to bear
our cross and be changed into his likeness." The
focus of the Lenten season is renewed discipline in walking in the
way of the cross and rediscovery of the baptismal renunciation of
evil and sin and our daily adherence to Christ. In the biblical
context, the synoptic gospels narrate the Transfiguration as a bridge
between Jesus' public ministry and his passion. From the time of
the Transfiguration, Jesus sets his face to go to Jerusalem and the
cross.
O God, who before the passion of your only-begotten Son
revealed his glory upon the holy mountain: Grant to us that
we, beholding by faith the light of his countenance, may be
strengthened to bear our cross, and be changed into his
likeness from glory to glory; through Jesus Christ our Lord,
who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God,
for ever and ever. Amen. The Revised Common Lectionary
ALTAR GUILD
The flowers on the altar today are given to the Glory of God and in
memory of Dr. John H. Trotter by Mary Ann Glenn.

“Love Will Keep Us Together”
LET’S PRAY TOGETHER
On Tuesday, Feb. 16th Pastor Mike will be admitted to Ruby
Memorial Hospital for nasal surgery. As a church family, let us join
in unity of spirit, to pray to God for Pastor Mike to have a successful
surgery and a timely recovery, free from complications. May he and
his wife, Candy be blessed with perfect assurance of, complete trust
in, the Love and Power of God. Let us offer our prayer support and
faith believing that “When prayers go up blessings come down.”
PRAYER FOCUS
God of love, we humbly come before you admitting we need
your love now more than ever. We need to be more fruitful with
the love You give us. Sometimes those closest to us seem to
receive less of our love than we mean to give. God help us to
do as James Taylor sang, “Shower the people you love with
love, show them the way you feel.” Lord, we need the ability to
love those who are hard to love by the power and presence of
Your Holy Spirit. As receivers of Your love, we are to be givers
as well. In Your holy and loving name we pray, AMEN!…”
ADULT SUNDAY SCHOOL CLASS
The "Faith Seekers" Class will begin a new study on Sunday,
February 22. We will be reading and discussing "Take This
Bread," by Sara Miles, an Episcopalian diaconal serving St.
Gregory's church in San Francisco, CA. "What Miles learns about
faith, about herself and about the gift of giving and receiving
graciously are wonderful gifts for the reader,."--National Public
Radio. You are invited to come, explore, grow and share in this
journey as we seek the "living communion of Christ." If you have
any questions and/or want the book, please contact John Hoffman
at 724-825-0986 or [email protected]. I will be
ordering through Amazon; do not know price (not expensive).

prayer request card is available for you to write your prayer needs. Place
your prayer card in the offering plate or in the church office. Prayer
requests will be shared with our Prayer Ministry Team unless marked

thanks; for this is God’s will for you in Christ Jesus.”
1 Thessalonians 5:16-18
PRAYER MINISTRY
Children's Ministry Needs Assistance with Completing
Renovations: The church is extremely close to finishing the
renovations. The children's area is almost structurally complete;
however, the "finishing touches" need to be put on it before our
dedication. Will YOU please consider helping the children update
their rooms? The rooms are nice and big and updated; however,
our shelves and tables are old! We are in need of white boards,
shelving, tables, chairs, bean bag chairs, projector and many other
supplies to make the children's space welcoming.
On
Sunday, February 15th the children will be having a bake sale after
both services and will be accepting donations (cash or check) to
help our cause. If you are willing to donate before or after those
dates, please mark your check or envelope to "Children's Ministry."
Thank you for helping make the children's space a place that our
future will want to come and learn about Jesus and bring others!
For more information, please contact Lya Stroupe at
[email protected].
Prayer support happens in many forms at Wesley Church. If you know of
someone who needs prayers from Wesley’s Prayer Team please contact
the Church office, Pastor Mike or Mickey Baker of the Women’s Prayer
Fellowship at (304) 599-8370. This ministry has many prayer partners
ready to pray for you.
PRAYER BOX
Do you have a worry or concern too close to your heart to share with
others? Take it to the Lord in prayer. You are invited to write your
concern on a slip of paper, which you will find in the back of the sanctuary,
in front of our beautiful stained glass window of Christ and His apostles.
You may drop it into the sealed box, which is nearby, with the full
assurance that no human eyes will ever read it. The very act of
expressing it on paper is another way of reaching out in faith to our Allsufficient God.
MEN’S PRAYER FELLOWSHIP
All Wesley men are welcome to join Pastor Mike for prayer and fellowship
on Thursday, February 19th beginning at 6:30 a.m. at Panera (Evansdale
location). For more information please contact the church office at 304292-9485.
