The Harlem Globetrotters
By Earl Heath
The Harlem Globetrotters are
some of the most Iconic ambassadors in sports. They play hundreds
of shows a year around the world.
They recently played at the Galen
Center in Los Angeles before a
crowd just over 3,000 fans.
A bright spot for the team is Rookie
Spider Sharpless. The 6-4 jumping
jack was Division National Player
of the Year and CIAA Player Of
The Year at Elizabeth City State
University (N.C.)
was the only player in the conference who was in the top 10 in
scoring, rebounding, steals and
blocked shots. He was a two-time
All-CIAA honoree (2012, 2013).
He led the conference in rebounding (8.8 rpg) and was third in scoring (20.5 ppg), while shooting 50.7
percent from the field. Sharpless

Fifty Shades of Grey Author E.L. James on Film: ‘I had to fight a Lot of
Things Really Hard’
“Fifty Shades of Grey” devotees,
know this: Whether you end up
loving or hating the new movie,
author EL James had your back.
“I was thinking about the readers,” James says about the
sometimes fraught process of
adapting her steamy book to the
screen — a process that reportedly involved creative differences, to put it gently, with director
Sam Taylor-Johnson. Out this
Friday for Valentine’s weekend,
the R-rated film stars Dakota
Johnson and Jamie Dornan.
“I understand what it’s like to be
in fandom,” she says. “I had to
fight for a lot of things really hard.
And I did.” (As a producer on the
film as well as the trilogy’s author,
James had an unusual amount of
creative clout.)
James, 51, who wrote the erotic
trilogy for her own enjoyment
and ended up launching a global
phenomenon, sat down over the
weekend with the Associated
Press to chat about the new film
and the fans whose devotion has
brought her such stunning commercial success.

Happy Valentines Day
By Judith Costa
Happy Valentine’s Day! February is considered the month of
Love. Wherever you go you see
red hearts and presents to buy.
Saint Valentine’s is a great day to
celebrate the Love and to share
it, but should not be the only one.
Love should be the world you live
in, the air you breathe. Your relationship needs care and presence
every day. Don’t wait until the arrival of this unique day of the year
to tell your loved ones how you feel
about them, and to do something
special. Celebrate Saint Valentine’s during the other 364 days of
the calendar too.
When you are not in a relationship, February 14th is not a good
day. It seems that your life is not
complete, that something is missing, but it is not true. Love comes
in many forms. You have so many
people around you who Love you,
and to whom you can demonstrate
your Love, like family, friends,
neighbors, your pets, or even yourself.
This Saint Valentine’s I have a
different plan for you: have a date
with yourself! The most important
relationship you will ever have
is the relationship with yourself.
Dress up, choose a wonderful
place for your self-date, and enjoy
the occasion to the utmost. Invest
this time in knowing who you are
the same way you would do if you
were on a date with someone else.
You will be interested in knowing
February 12 - February 18, 2015

the other person, their dreams and
passions, and now it is time to do it
with yourself.
Let me tell you a secret… You are
not single, you are only waiting for
your Soul Mate, who is out there
waiting for you. If you are able to
live in this reality where you know
that the right partner for you will
manifest in your life any moment,
next Saint Valentine’s could be
totally different. Right now, fall in
Love… with yourself! It is the best
way to be sure Love comes into
your life.
If you want to find Love, give
Love. Start by doing it with yourself. Love yourself when things
are going well. Love yourself when
your life is not the way you wanted
it to be. Love yourself without a
reason. Love yourself when you
feel loved and also when you feel
alone. Love yourself because you
deserve it. Love yourself no matter
what. Be always your best friend,
your own Valentine’s. Don’t search
for Love in wrong places, find it
inside of you. www.judithmcosta.

Joining Citizen’s Commission on Human Rights in confronting the issue of
the overdrugging of Foster Children with psychotropic drugs were State
and City representatives including award-winning documentarian Mr. Toby
Burwell; President of CCHR U.S., Mr. Bruce Wiseman; CA State Assemblyman Mike Gatto and Children’s Rights Advocate Ms. Sonya Muhammad at
the Church of Scientology Los Angeles.
The Citizens Commission on Human Rights (CCHR) partnered with
the Church of Scientology Los Angeles over the weekend to raise
awareness of the plight of California foster kids.
California has 3.5 times the nationwide average of foster children
on psychotropic drugs costing taxpayers millions. Recent articles
in the San Jose Mercury News
indicate that what’s driving this
increase is lucrative business for
those responsible for these children’s well-being.

Hawthorne High School hosted
two NJROTC air rifle matches.
The first was held on January 17th, 2015, which were the
playoffs. Eight teams competed
including Hawthorne, Cabrillo,
Troy (2 teams), Reseda, West
Valley, Pasadena and Chaffey
High Schools. Hawthorne finished
in 2nd place, qualifying them to
compete in the Area 11 Air Rifle
Championships,
held the following week at Hawthorne and Troy High Schools.
Hawthorne finished 12th out of
20 schools for the first time in that
competition. The team is comprised of Cadets Lorenzo Mejia,
Nick Moncada, Jorddy Fuentes,
and Jonathon Villagomez.
Cadets recently attended the Navy’s Damage Control Wet Flooding
Ms. Muhammad spoke on her
work exposing the fraudulent behavior of psychiatry in the foster
care system: “I highly respect and
support CCHR and the Church of
Scientology for the work they have
and are continuing to do relative to
raising public awareness about the
psychiatric industry, particularly its
crimes against foster children who
have no voice or power.”
Assemblyman Gatto spoke of
his passion to rectify this systemic
abuse: “I appreciate the work that
CCHR does in this area. Because
it’s really up to us, the people who
care, the people who are informed,
to come up with sensible solutions.
We need to make sure that foster
children are not simply sedated
because that’s what’s convenient.
Together we can make policies
that are much more successful and
will follow the ideals that everyone
here believes – to make the world
a better place.”

We Can Power a Brighter Future
“Gloria’s One Dish Recipes” – Making Healthy
Eating Delicious & Soulful
We celebrate Black History Month and the power
of the human spirit.
Health and fitness expert
Gloria Kamil has released
a new cookbook Gloria’s
One Dish Recipes, and is
taking healthy eating to a
delicious new level. Gloria’s
Breakfast Sausage Collard Wrap, Quinoa Grape
Shrimp Salad, Chicken &
Carrot Salad Sandwich,
and Rosemary Lemon
Honey Trout and are just a
smidgen of her delectably
soulful recipes. The book
is a must have for anyone
who wants to cook healthier,
gain control over their time
and waistline and boost the
health of themselves and
their families. With more
than 40 unique recipes, Gloria’s One Dish Recipes reveals a glimpse into the
super healthy guru’s eating
philosophies. In writing the cookbook
Kamil drew on 40 years of
experience. She refers to
herself as a “transformationist” because transforming the bodies, minds and
health of others is what
she does. For the past 16
years, she has worked as
a holistic, whole food nutrition professional, fitness expert and consultant and lifestyle-change coach. Kamil
explains that to lose (weight)
is to misplace; to release is
to let go and her method
is highly effective because
it lies in not just releasing
weight but in creating an
overall lifestyle change that
endures throughout a person’s life. Gloria’s One Dish Recipes introduces
readers to many over-looked
and under-used super
greens, beans and seasonings. Purple Orach leaves
and purple potatoes, romanesco, Kohlrabi, Stinging
Nettles, Okra, Wheat Berry,
Mung and Aduki Beans,
Amaranth, Black Quinoa. If
you thought that you were
doing something good by
eating kale, the current “it”
greens, think again and
please, broaden your palate. Gloria’s One Dish
Recipes includes recipes for
vegans and vegetarians as
Donate A Boat
or Car Today!
well as lovers of soul food,
sea food and meat. Healthy
soups, stews, sandwiches,
salads and a few unheard
of innovative combinations
like Gloria’s Creamy Cauliflower Fruit Salad are just
a few surprises in Kamil’s
cookbook.
“Eating a balanced and
healthy meal is a challenge
for most people today.
Many of us are bombarded
with long commutes, office hours, and activities
with our children. This
leaves little or no time in the
kitchen. Therefore, we opt
out of cooking meals at
home and rely on low- and
high-end fast-food restaurants. Although that has
closed the time gap it has
widened the waistline and
compromised the overall
health of the body,” Kamil
states. More than just a
cookbook, the cookbook is
a testament to Kamil’s conviction that healthy eating
doesn’t have to be bland. see HEALTHY Pg. 4

Only Love, Not Your Balloons, Should Be in the
Air Around Valentine’s Day
There are at least 656 reasons balloons
should not be released outdoors.
If the adrift metallic balloons that caused
the 656 power outages last year in Southern
California Edison’s (SCE) service territory
had been tied to a weight — as required by
California law — or not released by someone, that number and the safety hazards it
presents could have been drastically lower.
With Valentine’s Day approaching and balloons traditionally leading to an increase in
those outages in February, SCE is urging
its customers to make sure their balloons
are always tied to those weights. This will
help prevent the helium-filled objects from
floating into power lines and causing power
outages and potential injuries and property
damage.
Last February, SCE experienced 30 balloon-related outages, down nearly 50 percent from the 59 in February 2013. But, last
year’s 656 overall outages were down only
5 percent from the 689 in 2013. This led to
2,965 hours of interruption to customers
compared to 2,455 hours in 2013.
“They’re easy to prevent, but it only takes
one floating balloon on Valentine’s Day or
any day to cause an outage for thousands,”
said James Mackenzie, SCE principal man-
ager of Corporate Safety Programs. “Keep
them indoors if possible. But, tying them
down or attaching them to a weight is the
best prevention outdoors.”
SCE recommends some other safety tips
for handling metallic balloons:
Do not attempt to retrieve a balloon — or
any foreign object — tangled in power lines.
Instead, call SCE at 800-611-1911 and report the problem.
Never tie a metallic balloon to a child’s
wrist. If the balloon comes into contact with
electricity, it will travel through the balloon
and into the child, causing serious injury or
even death.
Never attach streamers to any balloon
— latex or metallic.
If you see a downed line or dangling wire
— even if it appears not to be live — don’t
touch or approach it or anything in contact
with it and call 911 immediately.
When done with balloons, do not release
them. Puncture them several times or cut
the knot and throw them in the garbage to
prevent them from floating away.
More on metallic balloon safety can be
found at on.sce.com/staysafe. Follow us on
Twitter and Facebook.

After Sony-Marvel deal, fans want Latino Miles Morales
as new Spider-Man
Sony and Marvel made huge
waves in the superhero film world
earlier this week when they announced they were teaming up to
bring Spider-Man and The Avengers back together.
The news has gotten fans excited
about a new spidey movie — but
more importantly about a new Spider-Man himself.

Typically, the Spider-Man films
have followed the life of Peter
Parker, as played by Andrew
Garfield and Tobey Maguire before him. However, fans of Marvel
comics are calling for the studios
to ditch the Parker storyline and
adapt a new, more Hispanic version with Miles Morales.
Who is Miles Morales? He’s the
Spider-Man of Marvel’s Ultimate
comics, a half-black, half-Latino
teenager who took the role of Spider-Man after Peter Parker’s death
at the hands of the Green Goblin.
Like Parker, the teenager got
his powers after a bite by an enhanced spider, but was hesitant to
use them until after Parker’s passing.
The studios announced Monday
night that a new installment of the
Spider-Man franchise would be
produced by Marvel, but first, he
will appear in an unspecified Marvel film.
While Spider-Man and The Avengers have interacted in comic books
for decades, they’ve been segregated in the movies because of
licensing agreements.
Social media has been abuzz asking Marvel and Sony to pick Morales over Parker in the new films.

NOTICE OF PETITION TO ADMINISTER
ESTATE OF FREDERICK E. HOWARD JR.
Case No. BP159631
To all heirs, beneficiaries, creditors, contingent creditors, and persons who may otherwise be interested in
the will or estate, or both, of FREDERICK E. HOWARD JR.
A PETITION FOR PROBATE has been filed by James
A. Feazell in the Superior Court of California, County
of LOS ANGELES.
THE PETITION FOR PROBATE requests that James
A. Feazell be appointed as personal representative to
administer the estate of the decedent.
THE PETITION requests authority to administer
the estate under the Independent Administration of
Estates Act. (This authority will allow the personal
representative to take many actions without obtaining
court approval. Before taking certain very important
actions, however, the personal representative will be
required to give notice to interested persons unless
they have waived notice or consented to the proposed
action.) The independent administration authority will
be granted unless an interested person files an objection to the petition and shows good cause why the
court should not grant the authority.
A HEARING on the petition will be held on March 3,
2015 at 8:30AM in Dept. No. 79 located at 111 N. Hill
St., Los Angeles, CA 90012.
IF YOU OBJECT to the granting of the petition, you
should appear at the hearing and state your objections or file written objections with the court before
the hearing. Your appearance may be in person or
by your attorney.
IF YOU ARE A CREDITOR or a contingent creditor of
the decedent, you must file your claim with the court
and mail a copy to the personal representative appointed by the court within the later of either (1) four
months from the date of first issuance of letters to a
general personal representative, as defined in section
58(b) of the California Probate Code, or (2) 60 days
from the date of mailing or personal delivery to you of
a notice under section 9052 of the California Probate
Code.
Other California statutes and legal authority may affect your rights as a creditor. You may want to consult
with an attorney knowledgeable in California law.
YOU MAY EXAMINE the file kept by the court. If you
are a person interested in the estate, you may file with
the court a Request for Special Notice (form DE-154)
of the filing of an inventory and appraisal of estate assets or of any petition or account as provided in Probate Code section 1250. A Request for Special Notice
form is available from the court clerk.

insurance company, either of which may charge you a fee for
this information. If you consult either of these resources, you
