SAFETY, STUDENT DROP-OFF AND PICK-UP
In my short time at Beer Middle School (BMS) I have noticed that the parking lot is the last place most people want
to be due to the congestion and time it takes to navigate. In the interest of student safety, I am asking that everyone
follow a few simple rules to keep students at BMS safe and the parking lot flowing smoothly:
Drop-Off or Arrival
1. Please do not drop off your student in front of the school on Martin Road. This causes a dangerous situation
because cars and buses are trying to navigate the same space.
2. Students can be dropped off in the circular drive in front of the school before 7:30 a.m. The circular drive is
closed from 7:30-8:00 a.m. The circular drive is closed during this time for the safety of all students.
3. When you enter the parking lot after 7:30 a.m., please drive to the back of the school and drop your student off
in the circular student drop off area. If you pull all the way forward to the last sign/car in front of you, we can
fit at least 10 cars in the drop off area. Please do not drop off your student before you enter the student drop off
area. If you stop early, all of the other cars behind you cannot pull forward which can cause a back-up that
stretches to Ryan. The back door to the school opens at the same time that the front door opens, 7:41 a.m. If
your student needs to eat breakfast in the school cafeteria, they can enter the front door at 7:21 a.m. or the back
door at 7:41 a.m.
4. Some parents have started to park in the parking lot to drop off their students. I highly discourage this because
it can be dangerous when students cross the parking lot. If you feel more comfortable parking and watching
your student walk into school, please park near the back of the school and have your student use the back door.
5. If you want to avoid the parking lot, please drop off your student at any of the side streets next to Beer. Dowland street is highly recommended as it runs directly next to BMS.
Pick-Up or Dismissal
1. The circular drive in front of the school is closed from 2:30–3:00 p.m. Just think about student safety.
2. Please do not pick up your student in front of the school on Martin Road because of the dangers in this area.
Additionally, please do not park on Martin Road where signs prohibit parking, especially next to the exit of the
parking lot because cars exiting the parking lot cannot see past your car to make a safe right turn.
3. When exiting the parking lot, you can only make a right turn (sign is posted). This is for safety and traffic flow.
4. When entering the parking lot, please pull as far forward as possible and do not double-park. Please do not
block the entrance to the circular drive because the buses must have access to this area.
5. Please follow the directions of the teachers who are monitoring the parking lot during dismissal, they are there
for the safety of the students.
6. If you want to avoid the parking lot, please pick up your student at any of the side streets next to Beer. Dowland street is highly recommended as it runs directly next to BMS.
If you have any suggestions concerning the flow and safety of the parking lot during arrival and dismissal, please
email me your suggestions at [email protected]. Please have “parking lot” in the subject of your email.
If you would like to help manage the parking lot in the morning, please email me at [email protected]. Please
have “help manage the parking lot” in the subject of your email. If I had two parent volunteers from 7:30-8:00
a.m., I believe that together we could end most of the issues in the morning with the parking lot.
Beer Middle School is a great school filled with great students, teachers and parents. Thank you for making BMS a
great school.
Sincerely,
Xavier Whitacre
Assistant Principal
