Natural oils have been used as wood finishes since the Egyptians.
The oils used are derived from plants i.e. Linseed, Rape Seed, Cornflower etc.
The most useful oils are known as drying oils e.g. Linseed Oil. They provide a natural looking, hard wearing finish that
maintains much of the wood texture. Oils penetrate in to wood and require successive applications for protection.
Oils can take from one to many days to dry.

Boiled Linseed Oil contains metallic salts that speed up the
process of drying.
Imparts an attractive warm mellow satin finish.
Can be used inside or outside with regular maintenance. It is
also a traditional sealer for terracotta tiles.
Ideal for most bare woods with the exception of oak where
darkening could occur.
A slow drying natural oil that feeds and protects all types of
wood. Raw Linseed Oil is ideal for oak beams, cricket bats,
garden canes etc and as a lubricant in French Polishing.
Useful also for the softening of Linseed Oil Putty.
Not recommended for furniture and flooring.

PATENT KNOTTING
WHITE KNOTTING
BUTTON POLISH
French Polish is made from Shellac and alcohol. Shellac (produced by the lac bug) is a very desirable finishing material. It
forms a tough yet flexible film on wood having a high mechanical strength and abrasion resistance.
It has very good adhesion properties and individual coats of shellac bond well together. It dries quickly and is easy to clean
up. Shellac has a very long history as a finishing material however, it is not very water resistant. If water is allowed to stand
on the finish for a long time, it will soak through the shellac film and damage the wood.

Button Polish is a premium finish for
wooden furniture of the antique style
giving a highly polished appearance to
the surface. These Shellac Polishes are
suitable to use over wood stains and
dyes. Whilst the finish achieved by a
skilled craftsman can provide a superb
high quality finish, it is susceptible to
heat and water marking. Often the finish
is completed by the application of a wax
polish to improve water resistance.
POPK
A quick drying Shellac in alcohol, which
is applied over knots and resinous areas
in wood, to seal prior to painting. For use
internally and externally. Patent Knotting
prevents the resins naturally found in woods
being dissolved by the solvents present
in most paints and seeping to the top
surface discolouring the paint finish. Clean
all brushes well with Methylated Spirits
immediately after use. Not recommended
to be used where waterbased / lighter
coloured modern paints are to be used –
use White Knotting.

CONDITIONS OF SALE
Carriage
Carriage will be free on all orders over £300 with the exception of
Scotland which will be £425. Orders less than the above will be
subject to a small handling charge. All orders will be invoiced at
the price ruling on the day of despatch. Standard delivery on stock
items 5-7 working days.
Title of goods
Title goods pass only on full payment of invoice. Goods remain the
property of the seller until paid in full.
Claims
No claim for damages or shortages can be accepted unless we are
advised immediately by phone or in writing within three days of
delivery. No claims can be allowed once a clear signature has
been given.
Returns
Goods are not to be returned except by prior arrangement with the
sales office.
VAT
All products, except where indicated, will be subject to VAT at the
standard rate - subject to alteration without prior notice.
Terms
