Virat Kohli celebrates after taking the catch that
dismissed Shahid Afridi on Sunday at the Adelaide
Oval.
ADELAIDE, February 15, 2015:Virat
Kohli scored an imperious century as
India opened their World Cup defence in
convincing fashion with a 76-run victory
over Pakistan in a frenzied atmosphere at
the Adelaide Oval on Sunday.
The much-anticipated Pool B grudge
match, the latest chapter in one of the
great rivalries in sport, attracted a
passionate crowd of 41,587 to the
revamped ground with up to a billion more
tuning in on the sub-continent and around
the world.
It was the two thirds of the crowd
dressed in the blue of India who had most
to cheer, though, as Kohli brushed aside
concerns over his recent one-day form
with a knock of 107 to drive his side to
an imposing tally of 300 for seven.
Pakistan started their reply steadily before
a three-wicket blitz in two overs at the
halfway mark of the innings saw opener
Ahmed Shehzad depart for 47 and
reduced them to 103 for five.
Skipper Misbah-ul-Haq (76) and Shahid
Afridi flirted with a match-changing
partnership but once the latter departed
for 22 and Wahab Riaz followed in the
same over, Pakistan's hopes of a first win
over India in six World Cup attempts was
gone.
Indian seamer Mohammed Shami took
four for 35 but it was Mohit Sharma who
drove the final nail into the coffin when
Sohail Khan holed out for seven to end
the Pakistan innings at 224 all out.
Kohli's century was the first by an
Indian in those six World Cup
encounters and took his impressive
tally to 22 in one-day internationals,
joint fourth on the all-time list with his
former skipper Sourav Ganguly.
Dropped from a difficult chance by
Yasir Shah off Afridi on seven and
again by wicketkeeper Umar Akmal on
76, Kohli otherwise played well within
himself and gave few chances in his
126 balls at the crease. The 26-yearold put together a dominant
partnership of 129 with Shikhar
Dhawan (73) and, once the opener
had been run out, another of 110 with
Suresh Raina (74), whose innings was
as aggressive as Dhawan's had been
considered.
Kohli reached his hundred with a single
to long on, whipping off his helmet to
celebrate his fourth century in five oneday and test matches at the Adelaide
Oval.
Sohail Khan took 5-55 in his first onedayer since 2011, removing both Kohli
and Raina as well as India skipper
Mahendra Singh Dhoni as three Indian
batsmen were sent back in the last
couple of overs.(INA)
Row between daitapatis, Odisha govt takes ugly turn
CM
KY
Puri, Feb 15:The
ongoing row between
the daitapatis (servitors)
and the Shri Jagannath
Temple Administration
(SJTA) in Odisha’s Puri
has further intensified.
While a section of the
daitapati nijog has openly
revolted against the
temple administration,
another faction has
struck
a
more
conciliatory note. That
the Nijog is plit down the
middle became clear
during its general council
meeting on Saturday.
According to reports,
the daitapati nijog, taking
strong exception to the
gross apathy of the
temple administration in
not
convening
a
preparatory meeting on
the
ensuing
Nabakalebara Banajaga
Yatra, had a meeting on
Saturday in which they
announced
that
henceforth they would
not attend any meeting
convened by the
government unless it
fulfils their long-standing
demands to pay the
compensation amount it
had promised during the
Rath Yatra in June last year.
They also said that Lord
Jagannath would decimate
those who have infringed
on and interfered with
their rights.
It may be mentioned that
the the daitapatis had
asked for Rs 2 crore as
compensation for the loss
they suffered on account
of devotees not being
allowed to climb atop the
chariots during the Rath
Yatra last year as per the
advice
of
the
Shankaracharya.
The state government had
recently announced to pay
the daitapatis Rs 40 lakh,
which was rejected
outright by the Daitapatis.
Venting their ire against the
lackadaisical attitude of the
government, the daitapatis
said the government has
treated them as beggars.
“We would neither receive
the compensation and nor
attend any meeting
convened
by
the
government. We would
perform Nabakelabara
rituals on our own,” they
said.
Some senior daitapatis
present at the meeting
asked as to why the
government had imposed
restrictions on the
devotees climbing the
chariots after it had agreed
to pay the compensation.
However, some daitapatis
said the government had
imposed restriction due to
the chaos it causes on the
chariots
and
the
unsavoury behaviour of
the servitors atop the
chariots. They cited in
particular an instance of
manhandling of eminent
Italian born Odissi
exponent Illeana Citaraistti.
The meeting witnessed
heated exchange of words
when some young
daitapatis demanded
formation
of
a
Nabakalebara monitoring
committee by the nijog by
including them as
members.
While one group opposed
the proposal, the other
group favoured the
formation
of
the
committee.
Unhappy with the
proceeedings, two senior
daitapatis—Jagannath
Swain Mohapatra and
Rama
Chandra
Dasmohapatra- left the
meeting midway.
The meeting later
decided to form four
c o m m i t t e e s —
Nabakalebara Banajaga
C o m m i t t e e ,
Nabakalebara Mahotsav
Committee,
Maha
Anasara Niti Committee
and Artha Committee—
which will have a
president, secretary,
permanent president and
one
badagrahi
each.Sources said that
nijog will have another
round of meeting on
Monday.Talking to the
newsmen
later,
Jagannath
Swain
Mohapatra, who had left
the meeting midway, said
the meeting opposed his
suggestion
on
formation
of
a
monitoring committee
to be led by the young
daitapatis.
“We left the meeting as
we were scolded and
reprimanded by some
members,” he added.
He, however, made it
clear that the daitapatis
would not attend any
meeting
of
the
government unless it
pays
them
the
compensation amount
it had promised.(tnb)
Maiden dolphin census begins in Odisha waters
Bhubaneswar, Feb 15:
The
forest
and
environment department
today embarked on a
dolphin census, dubbed
as the first of its kind, in
the coastal eco-systems
and shorelines of Odisha
apart from Chilika lagoon.
Encouraged by the
presence of several
species of the aquatic
mammal, the state
government had decided
to take up enumeration at
multiple sites, two coastal
eco-systems—Chilika
and Bhitarkanika – and off
the Baleswar, Brahmapur,
Bhadrak and Puri coasts.
‘‘The enumeration of the
dolphins has begun today
at various places,
including six forest
divisions in the state. The
forest divisions are–
Baleswar, Brahmapur,
Bhadrak, Puri, Chilika and
Rajnagar and the area of
census operation would
spread from Udaipur in
Baleswar district to Pati
Sonepur in Ganjam,’’ a forest
official said.
As many as 12 species of
dolphins were sighted off
the Odisha coast of which
at least six species –
Irrawaddy, Finless Porpoise,
Bottle Nose, Hump Back,
Spinner and Gangetic
species – have been
recorded in Bhitarkanika and
Rajnagar areas. The census
will try to locate the pockets
of their habitats in the
coastal zones as well.
Besides, it will aid in
conservation strategies for
the aquatic species,
sources said.
A day prior to the census,
the officials of the coastal
DFOs, wildlife officials and
other staff were imparted
training on species
identification, sighting and
recording on Saturday to
facilitate the census.
Nine teams consisting of 40
wildlife experts and the
forest department officials
have been constituted for
the headcount at the
Bhitarkanika
marine
sanctuary. This apart, three
five-member teams have
been formed to carry out the
census along 150-km Puri
coast. Besides, two trawlers
and two boats will be
pressed into service for this

AG report not ‘veda ra gara,
says Odisha Finance minister
Bhubaneswar, Feb 15:The otherwise
suave and soft spoken Pradip Kumar
Amat, Odisha’s Finance Minister, has
courted controversy with his comment
that CAG reports are not always gospel
truth and are subject to scrutiny by
committees of the House.
“It’s not always that whatever that has
been written in the CAG report is gospel
truth (‘veda ra gaara’ in Odia). One of
our committees will study the report.
The CAG’s comments are subject to
further examination and scrutiny by us.
We honour it, but at the same time it
needs to be subjected to further scrutiny
for commissions and omissions,” said
Amat commenting on the recently
released CAG reports that finds fault
with the government on several counts.
Leader of the Opposition in the Odisha
Assembly and senior Congress leader
Narasingh Mishra has said that there is
nothing to be surprised in the Finance
Minister’s comments.
“They do not respect the Constitution,
have no regards for Supreme Court
judgments, do not obey laws of the land
and the High Court, and ignore the
Lokpal. They have no respect for the
Auditor General, which is a
constitutional institution and even do not
hesitate to use abusive language against
him. Therefore there is nothing to be
surprised with what the Finance Minister
said,” Mishra told reporters.
The BJP has called Finance Minister
Amat’s statement as most unfortunate.
“This is most unfortunate. The Finance
Minister is expected to make some
meaningful statements. I feel the
interests of their party – Biju Janta Dal
– are being affected by it. Therefore,
they do not hesitate to sacrifice the
interests of Odisha and even insult
constitutional bodies and authorities,”
said Basant Panda in his reactions to
Amat’s comments while talking to
reporters here.(tnb)

While police are investigating as to
how these gelatines were kept in the
quarry area, which is illegal in Maoistprone areas, it was still known
whether these two boys were
working in the quarry.

Art of negotiating Freight Rate
Congress failure in Capital
CM
KY
The Congress’s failure to win even a single seat in the
Assembly elections in Delhi, a State it ruled for an unbroken 15
years till end-2013, only confirmed its members’ worst fears.
The Grand Old Party is in free fall and in the nine months since
it lost power at the Centre, its leadership has done little to
arrest the downward spiral. In quick succession last year, the
Congress lost Haryana, Maharashtra, Jharkhand and Jammu
and Kashmir, States it had been in power on its own or in a
coalition. Its ranks have witnessed a steady depletion with
several high-profile exits, such as that of G.K. Vasan and
Jayanthi Natarajan in Tamil Nadu, Krishna Tirath in Delhi,
Jagmeet Brar in Punjab and Birender Singh and Rao Inderjeet
Singh in Haryana (the last two before the Lok Sabha polls),
making headlines. Further, the division of Andhra Pradesh, a
Congress bastion till recently, has virtually wiped the party
out in both halves. Continuing feuds in State units, from Punjab
to Maharashtra to Haryana, to name just three, simmer on. Yet
another Antony Committee report, the post-mortem after its
Lok Sabha rout, has predictably not been shared even within
the party. A series of structured discussions led neither to a
plan of action nor a reorganisation of the party. All decisions
were postponed, citing the need to focus on the slew of
Assembly elections, now all over, and this year’s scheduled
party organisational elections.
But the real reason for the delay in instituting changes is the
resistance within the party — and not merely, though primarily
among members of the old guard — to installing heir apparent
Rahul Gandhi as party president this year. The resistance comes
not only from those who fear they may be pensioned off, but
also from those younger leaders who do not see a future for
themselves under his leadership. An overwhelming majority in
the party believes he does not have what it takes: he has neither
demonstrated the ability to sustain an idea or the hard work
demanded of a full-time politician in a leadership role. There
are now open whispers in party circles of a possible split in the
party should Mr. Gandhi be elevated. The electoral verdict
from Delhi has not come a day too soon: if the BJP was trounced,
the Congress lost almost its entire vote base to the AAP. The
Congress party has to urgently recover this lost ground by
ensuring a return to its foundational principles that had won it
the faith of millions in the past decades. Otherwise it will face
the prospect of extinction as other political formations take its
place in the contestation with the principal party in power, the
BJP.
Worry about in the
coming days
CM
KY
With the Opposition euphoria settling down over the landslide
win of the Aam Aadmi Party in the Delhi Assembly elections,
they have much to worry about in the coming days if they were
to recall the ambitious attempts of Arvind Kejriwal to expand
the base of his party during the May Lok Sabha elections last
year. Faced with a rout in the Lok Sabha elections, Mr Kejriwal
made a tactical retreat to confine the activities of his party in
Delhi and once he gathers confidence and resources, he will
most likely be back to pursue his larger political ambition, that
of playing a significant role in national politics.
“There is a vacuum and people have to come forward and fill
that space. People are ready for an alternative and we have to
provide them what they are looking for,” Mr Kejriwal had said
within days of his decision to form a political party after the
Anna Hazare movement “failed”. Then he had admitted that
the lack of infrastructure would be detrimental to his ambition
to throw an alternative at the national level at that time.
Incidentally, former Jammu and Kashmir chief minister Omar
Abdullah read the larger message in the Delhi verdict. That the
BJP was not unbeatable was the message Mr Abdullah found.
Trinamul Congress chief Mamata Banerjee and JD-U leader
Nitish Kumar hailed and apparently drew solace from the fact
that the Narendra Modi wave was losing steam. The responses
of the ruling Samajwadi Party in Uttar Pradesh and its arch-rival
BSP were muted. Significantly, none of the regional satraps
facing the BJP heat in their bastions spoke of doing business
with Mr Kejriwal and his party in their respective territories. In
their silence, political observers opine, the regional parties and
the larger Opposition to the BJP are wary of the fact that the
brand of politics championed by Mr Kejriwal is inimical to what
they practice on their respective turfs. Arguably, the BJP held
on to its traditional vote base in Delhi, which is about 33 per
cent.
And, hence, it’s the Opposition parties which need to brainstorm
if they would be able to hold on to their support base if the
AAP makes a strong pitch to build cadres in their areas of
influence. Even in Punjab, where the AAP made a spectacular
debut in the 2014 Lok Sabha elections by bagging four seats,
the party gained from the weakening of the support base of the
Congress.
The AAP, in most likelihood, will concentrate on states
adjoining Delhi for its further expansion and Uttar Pradesh,
Haryana, Punjab are on the immediate radar of the party. Also,
the AAP, which during its formative days had thought of making
a political debut in Himachal Pradesh only to revise the strategy
after getting a cold response from the ground, could look at the
hilly state. In all these states, the AAP would seek to capture
the support base of the Congress is the opinion of those who
have been closely watching the party founded on anticorruption campaign.
However, there is no denying the fact that the BJP’s rout in
Delhi has boosted the morale of the Opposition. They know
that the BJP juggernaut unleashed by Mr Modi and party chief
Amit Shah could be stopped if there is unity among political
outfits. In Bihar, Mr Nitish Kumar is likely to pursue the merger
of the JD-U and the RJD vigorously and stitch an alliance with
the Congress to take on the BJP in the November state polls
this year.

In below article logistics experts teach techniques that can be used to
effectively negotiating good freight rates.
The key steps in negotiation best freight rates are:
Find current Market Rates
Before approaching liners or forwarders you should gain knowledge of
current market rates. You can often check rates from your online freight
portals, business associates or friends.
Identifying carriers that service your tradelane
Approaching more companies can increase your chance of getting better
freight rate. Identify carrier that service your trade lane and then gather
contact details. You can get contact details from online directory of
logistics companies.
Networking – Build repo with liners/forwarders sales team
It is worth keeping good relationship with the sales team members of
logistics companies. Ocean freight rates are at discretion of line
managers. Maintaining personal repo with the sales people of logistics
company can substantially increase your chances of getting sweater
freight rates !
Consolidating volumes & Sell future projections
If a shippingline knows that you have a fairly large potential business
volume in long-term then they will offer to you a better rate to grab
your business, even for current shipments with small volume.
Broadcasting Freight Request
Once you gain knowledge of freight rates and you have identified logistics
companies, you should start sending out emails to logistics companies
with your current and yearly business volume.
Freight Exchange
One of the biggest freight market website is ShippingExchange.com,
posting your request is absolutely free and they also have many features
like online tracking etc. Once you post your freight request they broadcast
your request to a large number of forwarders and shipping lines registered
with them.
Keep dropping the anchor
Find out the lowest freight quote and then negotiate with one company
at a time. As you negotiate with one company at a time, use the lowest
freight quote as a bench mark to negotiate your freight downwards with
the subsequent companies.
Save the best of last
Once you have come towards the end of negotiation marathon, only
then you should start negotiating with your preferred logistics company.
Don’t be penny wise and dollar foolish
You should factor in per day interest cost of you goods and offset it with
the longer transit time. Sometimes, paying higher freight with a shipping
line with a shorter transit time is overall more economical.
Contract – Does & Don’ts
When you receive the freight quote or freight contract you should read
between the lines to know your contractual obligations. Freight rates are
only valid for a fixed duration and in some cases shippinglines put a
penalty clause if you are unable to ship certain committed volume.
By learning the above skill you are now a well-qualified freight negotiator.
Happy negotiating cheaper freight rates ! [email protected]
The Delhi fumble
THE Delhi assembly election has attracted the keen attention of foreign
diplomats, India-watchers and the international media. Mostly because the
BJP leadership chose to invest it with a significance that it intrinsically did
not deserve. The complete rout of the BJP has also raised questions about
the election’s impact on national politics.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s spectacular and decisive victory in the 2014
Lok Sabha elections convinced the international community that he had
emerged as the country’s tallest political leader, without a real rival. As Modi’s
star rose in national politics, many countries shed their earlier inhibitions
and started to engage with him. After his electoral success last year, important
foreign leaders displayed eagerness to accept him as a peer and do business
with him. Modi, in turn, showed great interest in foreign affairs and met his
international counterparts with ease and a sure touch.
The international community only truly respects heads of government who
have real power and are politically durable. It recognises that only they can
actually deliver on assurances and implement decisions. It swiftly realised
that Modi was the first such leader to emerge in India in over two decades —
his political success exceeds Atal Bihari Vajpayee and Sonia Gandhi’s. This
view was confirmed as the BJP won state elections in Haryana, Jharkhand
and Maharashtra as well as vastly improved its performance in Jammu and
Kashmir. Modi’s decisions to change the land acquisition law and allow
greater foreign investment in critical sectors like insurance were signals of
his intent to move purposefully to overcome the impediments to implementing
his vision for India. But he still has to navigate the ordinances through
Parliament.
Katju
But international observers and Modi’s peers will now pause to assess the
impact of the Delhi election on the Indian political scene, especially on Modi.
They are likely to focus attention not only on what led Modi to stake his
reputation against Arvind Kejriwal, who was in no way his political equal,
but also, more importantly, on how he would absorb this reverse and move
ahead. Will it bring changes to his economic and foreign policies? Will he
move to a more collegial style of functioning? Will he seek to curb the sharp
rhetoric and actions of Hindutva elements in the Sangh Parivar? If, in the coming
months, they conclude that Modi has taken this defeat in his stride and not
allowed it to change his economic and
development agenda, they will continue
to actively engage with him. But they will
focus, in particular, on his moves to ensure
the maintenance of social harmony. If
these happen, the Delhi elections would
be considered as no more than a blip in
his five-year prime ministerial term.
Kejriwal evokes intense curiosity among
Delhi-based foreign diplomats and India-watchers. They would have been
impressed with his remarkable ability to overcome crippling political reverses in
a very short time. They would also feel his party had the potential to appeal to
vast sections across India, depending on its ability to deliver on electoral
commitments in Delhi.
But the international community has great interest in a political party’s economic
policies, approach to global issues and national security concerns. It is on these
matters that countries spar or cooperate. Governance issues that directly impact
people’s lives and domestic economic policies win or lose elections but are not
of direct interest to global players. But Kejriwal has not spelt out his views on
these international matters and would need to do so before the world can form an
opinion of him.
The Congress party seems to have fallen into the political precipice. Rahul Gandhi
has failed every significant electoral test in the past few years. The party is so
closely identified with the Gandhi family that it seems not to have a future
without them at the helm. Will the international community write off the Congress
— in the Delhi election, it did not win a single seat and its vote share fell below
10 per cent? This is unlikely. Global leaders know the Congress party well and
have, in the past, been comfortable dealing with it. Besides, let’s not forget, it is
still the single largest opposition party in the Lok Sabha.
The Delhi election will make India-watching more interesting and complex for the
international community.

becomes uncommunicative. Your
friend probably has money
worries. Let him or her know
you're there to listen, then back
off.
Gemini
A visitor may come over today,
Gemini, but you might wonder
why this person bothered. He or
she may seem distracted and more
inclined to listen to what you say
than offer any conversation.
Chances are that your friend felt
lonely and needed some company.
Be flattered. Don't be afraid to
launch into a monologue about
something you find fascinating. It
may be just what your friend
needs.
Cancer
A phone call may come from
someone you know is prone to
gossip, Cancer. This person may
have a lot to say, but be sure you
take it with a grain of salt, if not
the whole shaker. Your
skepticism could prove invaluable
in this respect. If what this
person says is important, check
out the facts before passing it on
or taking any action. Chances are
it's exaggerated or completely
false.
Leo
The desire to make a major
purchase of some kind,
perhaps a luxury item, might
have you counting your
pennies today, Leo. Once
they're all counted, you might
doubt the wisdom of buying
it now. This isn't the day to
make a decision either way.
Wait a few days and you
should see things more clearly
and have a better grasp of the
situation.
Libra
Capricorn
A sibling or neighbor may tell you
one thing, Libra, while your
intuition tells you the opposite.
This isn't a vindictive deception.
The person is probably trying to
spare your feelings. Perhaps it's
better not to challenge this
person. Wait until you know
more before bringing up the
subject. You don't want to cause
a rift between the two of you.
You're probably excited about a
forthcoming journey, Capricorn,
but you may be unclear about
the arrangements. Don't let this
situation persist or your trip
might not work out the way you
hope. Get in touch with people
who know what's what and get
as much information as you can.
Then you will know it all before
you get on that plane.
Scorpio
A friend who's having money
problems might dump all their
woes on you today, Scorpio. Your
inclination isn't to be very
sympathetic, but hold back that
tendency. The situation is real,
and your friend is very worried
and needs solutions more than
criticism or sympathy. Your
common sense and practical
nature could be invaluable right
now. Offer to listen.
Sagittarius
Virgo
Worries about a household
member could plague you today,
Virgo. This person might have
gone away without telling
anyone, or seem upset. Your
friend is probably OK but at
odds with someone outside the
household rather than in it. Let
this person work it out in
whatever way they see fit. Your
companion will share with you
when the time is right.
CM
KY
Have you been given a task to
do at work that hasn't been
explained properly, Sagittarius?
If so, you may feel at a loss. What
to do? It's best to go back to the
person who assigned the work
and ask for more details. This
could be temporarily humbling,
but remember, it's better to ask
a stupid question than to make a
stupid mistake. Don't move
ahead until you know exactly
what you need to do.
Aquarius
A dream or insight might find
you questioning one of your
long-held goals, Aquarius.
Perhaps you've formulated
another goal you like better, or
you're beginning to doubt the
workability of the old one. This
probably isn't a good day to
make a decision of any sort. Your
thinking may not be as rational
as it usually is. Write down your
options and return to it in a day
or two.
Pisces
Someone at work may be upset,
Pisces, and not inclined to
communicate their feelings to
anyone else. This might cast a
pall over the atmosphere. You
may wonder if this person is
upset with you, but chances are
it has a lot more to do with the
job than you. Make use of your
ability to concentrate, and don't
let this get in your way. It isn't
worth the trouble.

Bring guidelines for
commercial bodies to
prevent bribery: Law panel
New Delhi
With India bidding big ticket investments, the Law
Commission on Friday recommended mandatory norms
by government for commercial organisations to prevent
bribery.Recommending amendments to the Prevention
of Corruption Amendment Bill, 2013, the law panel
proposed introducing a "statutory obligation" on the
government to publish guidance about the procedures
that commercial organisations can take to put in place
"adequate systems" to prevent bribery to public
servants. It said in Section 9, a new sub-clause can be
added to make it clear that "the central government shall
prescribe and publish guidelines about the adequate
procedures, which can be put in place by commercial
organisations to prevent persons associated with them
from bribing any person, being or expecting to be, a
public servant".It said the guidelines shall be prescribed
and published by the Centre "after following a
consultation process in which the views of all the
interested stakeholders are obtained".Section 10 of the
bill pending in the Rajya Sabha extends the liability of
the commercial organisation to every person who is in
charge of and is responsible to the organisation for the
conduct of its business through a deeming provision. The
panel in its latest report submitted to the Law Ministry
has also recommended amending Section 10.The revised
Section 10 now states that if an offence by a commercial
organisation is proved to have been committed with the
consent or connivance of any director, manager,
secretary or other officer of the commercial organisation,
then such person shall be guilty of the offence and will be
liable to be proceeded against and punishable with
imprisonment which shall not be less than three years but
which may extend to seven years.

Delhiites concerned
about corruption, crime,
not power: Study
New Delhi
People of Delhi now consider issues such as inflation,
corruption and crimes against women as far more
important than power supply problems, according to a
study released on Friday. As per the study titled
'Perception Survey of Delhi - Satisfaction on Power
Supply', power topped the list of key concern for
Delhiites in 2002 and 2004 but down the year issues such
as law and order, corruption and inflation, among others,
took precedence over it.The study carried out over a
period of 10 years starting 2002, says power now ranks far
lower than in used to be earlier. The study is part of Delhi
Human Development Report 2013 published by the
Institute for Human Development (IHD).So, in 2006,
municipal corporation of Delhi topped the list followed
by corruption and power and in 2008 power was at the
bottom of it below water. In 2010 and 2012, power was
edged out rom the list of top five concerns, the study
said.Among the lowest-income group, power ranked
third behind sanitation and water in the category of most
problematic issues. And, among the highest-income
group, power ranked as the least problematic issues.IHD
was established in 1998 under the aegis of the Indian
Society .

President's Rule in Bihar
Guwahati
Accusing JD(U) leader Nitish Kumar of being responsible for a
Constitutional crisis in Bihar, Union Consumer Affairs Minister
Ram Vilas Paswan asserted the situation "is fit for imposition of
President's Rule there".
"There is a Constitutional crisis in Bihar. It is a fit case for
imposition of President's Rule there. Nitish Kumar is responsible
for it," Paswan told reporters here on the situation in his home state
of Bihar."Why did Nitish Kumar resign for his party's poor
performance in the last Lok Sabha elections. (Chief Minister) Jitan
Ram Manjhi was his dummy candidate. After he became Chief
Minister he has gone after Manjhi and not allowed him to work," he
said."When Manjhi refused to remain in his pocket, Nitish Kumar
started creating trouble," Paswan said."Kumar is very cunning. He
has broken all political parties, including my Lok Janshakti Party,
RJD, CPI earlier. He is a master of defection and horse trading", he
said.
"He (Nitish) has no faith in his own MLAs that they will stay with
him. So he is keeping them away outside Bihar in Noida in Uttar
Pradesh", accused Paswan."Let Manjhi prove his majority on the
floor of the Assembly on February 20 as fixed by the Governor. If
both sides have no majority and the instability continues, then
President's Rule will be recommended by the Governor," Paswan
said.On Nitish Kumar's accusations about BJP writing the script for
Manjhi asserting he has majority to continue as Chief Minister,
Paswan shot back, "why BJP? NDA will not support".

Brent oil tops USD 61 as
outlook brightens
London
Brent oil prices soared above USD 61
this week for the first time this year,
aided by upbeat news on Ukraine and
Greece and by rebounding economic
growth in eurozone powerhouse
Germany.Elsewhere in commodity
markets, India overtook China as the
world's top consumer of gold,
according to newly published industry
data.
OIL: Crude oil prices rallied above
USD 61 on easing tensions surrounding
Greece and Ukraine, and as the global
economic outlook brightened."Prices

reacted positively to the announcement
of a ceasefire between Russia and
Ukraine after talks mediated by
Germany and France proved
successful," said Sucden analyst Myrto
Sokou."Appetite for risk assets was
boosted further by the progress
between Greece and its creditors
regarding any potential renegotiation of
the bailout package."European stock
markets also jumped higher today, with
Germany's main index breaching
11,000 points for the first time as
Greece appeared closer to a possible
overhaul of its international bailout.
Sentiment was given another boost as
official data showed the German economy
expanded surprisingly strongly in the fourth
quarter of 2014, driven by robust consumer
spending. In the period from October to
December, German gross domestic product
expanded by 0.7 per cent, bringing full-year
growth to 1.6 per cent.
Economic activity in the eurozone also
picked up slightly, expanding by 0.3 per
cent in the fourth quarter and 0.9 for all of
2014.
Crude futures had risen sharply yesterday,
gaining almost USD 2.50 on reports that
leading petroleum producers are curtailing
investment.In a topsy-turvy week for the oil
market, prices fell sharply on Wednesday
with New York crude sliding below USD
49, as swelling US inventories added to the
global supply glut. The US stockpiles report
showed crude reserves standing at an 80year high for this time of the year.Oil prices

The founder of India`s Sun Pharmaceutical Industries
Inc, Dilip Sanghvi, has agreed to buy a 23 percent stake in
Indian wind turbine maker Suzlon Energy Ltd for about
$290 million, the company said late on Friday.Sanghvi,
India`s second-richest man, will pay 18 billion rupees
through Dilip Sanghvi Family and Associates (DSA) for
1 billion new shares in Suzlon, issued by way of a
preferential allotment.Sanghvi`s investment firm and
Suzlon will lso form a wind farm joint venture for the
development of 450 megawatt (MW) of wind farms, the
statement said.Loss-making Suzlon has been under
pressure over the last few years due to a slowdown in
global turbine sales and a growing debt pile. It was forced
to restructure $1.8 billion of debt after defaulting on a
$200 million convertible bond redemption in 2012.The
deal will provide Suzlon with much needd liquidity and
the company said it would also use the cash to tap
opportunities in India and growth markets like the United
States, China, Brazil, South Africa, Turkey and
Mexico.Suzlon shares have risen 15 percent in the past
week on media reports of Sanghvi`s interest in investing
in the company in a personal capacity. The company last
week denied having received a proposal from Sanghvi.
Suzlon sold its German unit Senvion SE to buyout firm
Centerbridge Partners last month for 1 billion euros in an
all-cash deal, part of the company`s plans to halve rupee
debt by March 31.

The S&P 500 index closed at a record high on
Friday, as energy shares gained with oil prices,
while the Nasdaq composite index hit a 15-year
high helped by technology stocks.Equities rallied
this week after a ceasefire agreement between
Ukraine and Russia and apparent progress toward a

WHO assists search
for `100 missing` in DR
Congo boat disaster
Portland
The World Health Organization on Friday said it is
assisting in the search for as many as 100 people believed
missing after their boat sank on the Congo
River.Thursday`s accident in the Democratic Republic of
Congo happened when two boats collided close to the
town of Kwamouth, some 200 kilometres (124 miles)
east of Kinshasa, the WHO said in a statement. The WHO
cited survivors as saying there may have been close to 150
people onboard one of the boats. An initial official toll
said three people had been killed and 42 rescued,
claiming that around 100 passengers were on the stricken
vessel. The agency said it was providing medical kits to
support a search operation launched by national and
provincial authorities, including 100 body
bags.Passengers on the second boat were nt thought to
have suffered any casualties.Deadly shipping disasters
are common in the Democratic Republic of Congo due to
overcrowding on old and poorly-maintained vessels, a
lack of life-jackets and the fact that many people do not
know how to swim. The WHO said Thursday`saccident
occurred in an area with strong currents.
On Monday, at least 20 people died in a sinking further
upstream on the Congo River, some 450 kilometres
northeast of Kinshasa.

The Sudanese police are investigating an officer from the
UN-African Union mission in Darfur over allegations he
raped a woman in the western region, a foreign ministry
spokesman said Friday. After reports in the local press
"against one of the officers from the UNAMID forces in
Darfur, investigations were started on the case," foreign
ministry spokesman Yousif al-Kordofani told AFP."If
there is evidence against the officer, he will be

the mission "takes every allegation of staff misconduct,
including sexual exploitation and abuse, very seriously
and urges any information to that effect to be shared

Oregon's Kate Brown to be
first openly bisexual
governor in US history
Portland
Oregon Secretary of State Kate Brown, set to become
the nation`s first openly bisexual governor on
Wednesday, is an under-the-radar liberal Democrat
known for her struggles to expand voting and her push
for greater campaign finance transparency.
Governor John Kitzhaber resigned his post on Friday
amid influence-peddling allegations involving his
fiancée that have triggered a criminal corruption probe
and led to a frenzy of criticism from prominent fellow
Democrats."This is a sad day for Oregon. But I am
confident that legislators are ready to come together to
move Oregon forward," Brown told reporters in brief
remarks outside her office in Salem after Kitzhaber said
he would resign, effective on Wednesday. The
resignation gives Brown, whose job is to oversee
elections, audits and business registrations, the gift of
incumbency in a special election next year. She had
been weighing a bid for governor in 2018 anyway,
Oregon media reported. In addition to becoming the
nation`s first openly bisexual governor, Brown will also
be the second woman to hold Oregon`s top elected
office. She has commented publicly about her
bisexuality and lives in Portland with her husband. She
was appointed to the state House of Representatives in
1991 when another lawmaker resigned, and in 2004
became the first woman to serve as Senate majority
leader, according to a state profile.Brown has touted her
work to create an online database for campaign
donations and in passing comprehensive civil rights and
domestic partnership laws.As secretary of state, the 54year-old backed a bill to register Oregonians to vote
when they get a driver`s licence. But critics accused her
playing partisan politics when she delayed a 2012
election for labour commissioner, a move perceived as
helping a fellow Democrat, the Oregonian newspaper
reported.
"Her first goal is going to be just to step in and keep
moving the state forward, which I think she`s uniquely
qualified to do," said Multnomah County Chairwoman
Deborah Kafoury, a political ally. Brown declined to
discuss her political agenda with reporters on Friday,
and some lawmakers have expressed concern the
Portland liberal could be less effective than Kitzhaber at
bipartisan politics."If Kate Brown wants to lead that
party to the left then that`s something we`re not going to
be participating in," House Minority Leader Mike
McLane, a Republican, told reporters. "I have concern
that Portland`s left or liberal interests have really risen
in the state."
Its progress in long-range missile technology was
hammered home by the launch of a rocket that
successfully put a satellite in orbit in 2012.

decades, Kitzhaber has been dogged
for months by allegations that
fiancée Cylvia Hayes used her role
in his office for personal gain.
Those allegations snowballed last
week amid media reports that Hayes
had received $118,000 in previously
undisclosed consulting fees in 2011
and 2012 from the Washingtonbased Clean Economy Development
Center while also advising the
governor on energy
policy.Kitzhaber did not reveal those
consulting fees in annual disclosure
filings. He said the couple did not see
it as a potential conflict of interest
and therefore did not feel it had to be
reported. In the aftermath of those
revelations, Kitzhaber promised that
Hayes would no longer have a policy
role in his office. Nevertheless, calls
grew from both sides of the political
aisle for him to step down, as well as
from the state`s flagship newspaper,
the Oregonian, which endorsed his
re-election bid last year.House of
Representatives Speaker Tina Kotek
and Senate President Peter
Courtney, both Democrats, met with
Kitzhaber on Thursday and urged
him to resign.
Oregon Attorney General Ellen
Rosenblum said the resignation
would not affect an ongoing
criminal corruption probe over a
possible conflict of interest
between Hayes` role as an
unpaid adviser to the governor
and her consulting contracts.
Kitzhaber said he would
continue to cooperate with the
investigation.
Kitzhaber`s decision was met
largely with approval by the
state`s political leaders. U.S.
Senator Ron Wyden of Oregon,
a Democrat, said it would give
Oregonians a government that

vision for America. That hasn`t

potential rivals in the money

this week travelled to New York,

wealthy are aggressively courted:
industry titans Charles and David
Koch; casino magnate Sheldon

Robert Mercer and Paul Singer;
billionaire investor Tom Steyer,
and former New York mayor
Michael Bloomberg.
Oregon House Republican Leader
Mike McLane said: "I take no
delight in John Kitzhaber`s
resignation but understand his
decision."Brown herself, in a
brief statement, said it was "a sad
day for Oregon" but she was
confident lawmakers are ready to
come together. "As you can
imagine, there is a lot of work to
be done between now and

man was found dead in a home early Friday
morning.The American woman was arrested
shortly after -- along with a 20-year-old man

suspect, a 17-year-old boy from Cole

the plot was not considered to be related to

word of a "potential significant weaponsrelated threat" on Thursday morning."We

intercepted a threat," the RCMP said.
The region`s Serious Incident Response

the outskirts of Halifax in the rugged and
remote Atlantic province of Nova Scotia.
In battle for Kobane, US crews recount heavy bombing
Washington
American pilots call it "going
Winchester."That`s when a
warplane drops every bomb on
board. And air crews for the B-1
bomber told AFP it was not
uncommon in the battle for the
Syrian town of Kobane,
recaptured by Kurdish forces last
month.The airmen, recently
returned from a six-month stint
flying combat missions over
Syria and Iraq, recounted how
American aircraft relentlessly
pounded Islamic State jihadists
fighting the Kurds in
Kobane.The heavy bombing, not
seen since the 2003 US invasion
of Iraq, helped the Kurds hold
and eventually recapture the
northern border town last month,
a symbolic blow to the
extremists who appeared on the
verge of seizing Kobane in
October.
"When you went to Kobane,
you could almost guarantee you
were going to release a weapon
that day," said Captain Todd
Saksa, a B-1 weapons systems
officer.The 31-year-old Saksa
had flown other missions in
Afghanistan but what was
different this time was "the sheer
number of weapons dropped,"
he said by phone from Dyess Air
Force Base in Texas.B-1 pilot
Major Brandon Miller, 38, has
been deployed five times in
warzones, but he had never
before dropped as many bombs
as during the battle for Kobane.
"I personally went Winchester
three times," he said. Before
that, he had never emptied his
weapons bay.In previous sixmonth tours over Afghanistan, it
was typical for his squadron to
unload 15 to 20 bombs. But in
their last deployment, the
squadron dropped more than
2,000 bombs and hit more than
1,700 targets, he said. The B-1B
Lancer was built in the 1980s
during the Cold War to fly low
and fast into Soviet air space.
But the supersonic plane
became a "workhorse" for the
American-led air campaign in

Kobane, delivering much of the
firepower that took out IS fighters
and vehicles, US Air Force
officers said.
Unlike fighter jets, the bomber -dubbed "the Bone" by air crews -is able to linger for hours over a
target thanks to a large fuel tank
and can hold a much larger
payload of weapons, with roughly
two dozen bombs of different
sizes.In a six-month period, the B1 flew 18 percent of all strike
flights against IS and accounted
for 43 percent of the total tonnage
of munitions dropped in Syria,
Iraq and Afghanistan, officials
said.
The airmen with the 9th Bomb
Squadron had deployed to the
Middle East in July preparing for
missions over Afghanistan, where
a small US force rarely if ever
would call in a bombing raid.
But one night in August, a B-1
was ordered to hold on the runway.
Instead of Afghanistan, the fourman crew was told they would be
heading to northern Iraq to escort
planes dropping supplies to

encircled Yazidis on Mount Sinjar.
By October, the bombers were
frequently flying to aid the embattled
Kurds in Kobane, staying eight hours
overhead -- with one mid-air
refueling at the four-hour mark -looking for IS fighters who were
often in plain sight.
The targets were either spotted by
the crews or relayed by Kurdish
fighters, whose requests would be
passed to America`s air operations
center in Qatar.
Without US forward air controllers
near the front line, approval for a
strike could take up to 45 minutes,
officers said.
The IS fighters, unaccustomed to
being hunted from the air, took a
pummeling -- until they learned to
conceal their movements.The
bombers were often joined by two or
more F-15 or F-16 fighter jets,
ensuring that "we had air power
overhead almost 24 hours a day in
Kobane," said Lieutenant Colonel Ed
Sumangil, 40, commander of the
squadron.And unlike the past decade
of US wars where insurgents often
relied on roadside bombs and
ambushes, there was a clear
front line in Kobane, a
conventional battle between two
forces and no civilians nearby.
"There were good guys on one
side and ISIL (IS) on the other
side," Miller said.
The front line, or what the
pilots call the "forward line of
troops," shifted day to day, and
sometimes hour to hour in favor
of the Kurds. At night, the pilots
could see see the outlines of the
Turkish border near Kobane as it
was "well lit," Miller said, while
the Syrian side of the border was
covered in darkness.On the last
flight of his tour in January,
things looked different."Two of
the strategic hills that are in
Kobane, both had lights on
around them, which was actually
kind of shocking to see because
it had been dark there the entire
time," Miller recalled.
"And all of a sudden there
were very well-defined rings of
light around these mountains.
The lights were starting to come
back on in Kobane."

Atletico squad is

last season-Juanfran
Madrid
CM
KY
After they sold top scorer Diego Costa and fullback
Felipe Luis to Chelsea, some predicted Atletico Madrid
would struggle to repeat their achievements in 2013-14
when they won La Liga and reached the Champions
League final. The high-profile departures also included
goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois, who returned to parent club
Chelsea after a loan deal, but defender Juanfran believes
the arrival of the likes of Mario Mandzukic, Antoine
Griezmann and, most recently, Fernando Torres means
the current squad is even better. Results on the pitch
suggest he may be right.Atletico are third in La Liga,
three points behind Barcelona and four adrift of leaders
Real Madrid following their 4-0 humiliation of their city
rivals at the Calderon last weekend. They are also through
to the last 16 of Europe`s elite club competition to face
Bundesliga side Bayer Leverkusen. As Juanfran and his
team mates prepare for Sunday`s La Liga game at Celta
Vigo, the Spain international praised the ability of the
club and coach Diego Simeone to bolster the squad
effectively and maintain the team`s competitiveness.
"The club has made a big effort to keep great players and
bring in other very important ones who have lifted the
level of the team," Juanfran told a news conference on
Friday."The squad is better every year ... and that speaks
very well of the work the club and the coach are doing,"
he added."It is very difficult for Atletico Madrid to
prevent key players leaving given what we are achieving.
"But this year, for me, the squad is the best ever and I
hope that next year it`s better again so we can continue to
challenge the big clubs."Atletico have proved they
remain one of Europe`s top teams and their drubbing of
Real, who beat them in last season`s Champions League
final, was their second success against their neighbours
in La Liga in 2014-15.They also beat Real 2-1 on
aggregate to win the Spanish Super Cup in August and
knocked them out of the King`s Cup 4-2 over two legs
last month."The truth is we played a great match the other
day but we have already put it out of our minds," Juanfran
said."For us they were thee more points to help us in our
goal of achieving great things. It has given us a lot of
confidence to approach an extremely tough game against

Multiple grand slam champion and 2008 Olympic gold
medallist Rafael Nadal expressed surprise Friday that the
Rio Olympics tournament will be played on hardcourt
and not clay."I am surprised that in a country which has
clay specialists the Olympics are going to be on
hardcourt," Nadal told a press conference on Rio, where
from Tuesday he will look to defend the ATP 500 event he
won last year. The International Tennis Federation (ITF)
has explained the choice is based on the August 6 to 15
tournament coming just two weeks before the US Open,
which is likewise played on hardcourt.Rio authorities
have been racing to ensure the Games` infrastructure is
ready on time as the extravaganza comes to South
America for the first time, but Nadal said he was sure all
would go smoothly."Brazil was able to pull off
successfully something as complicated as a World Cup
and I am sure the Olympics are going to be a success,"
said Nadal, 14 times a Grand Slam champion and who
also triumphed at the Beijing Games.Andy Murray
succeeded the 28-year-old Mallorcan as gold medallist at
the London Games in 2012, landing the crown at
Wimbledon by beating Roger Federer.Looking to his own
current form going into Rio, Nadal is out to break his title
duck for the year to date as he cranks up clay preparations
ahead of an assault on a tenth French Open title.Noting
the hot weather in Rio, the Spaniard said: "This heat
would affect anyone, these conditions are complicated
and the conditions extreme, including the humidity."If
the temperature doesn`t drop by Tuesday I`ll have to fight

he said: "I don`t know if I am ready to win it. I`m working
hard to get back to the level I was at before I got injured,"
he told reporters, with early season form having brought
an early exit in Qatar and a quarter-final departure at the
Australian Open after he returned from assorted fitness
ailments last year. Before picking up his racket next week,
Nadal has the chance to join the carnival festivities in the
"Marvelous City" which officially kicked off Friday and

parade with compatriot David Ferrer and former
Brazilian world number one Gustavo Kuerten at the
sambadrome with the Viradouro samba school. For
Nadal, the carnival "is something unique and very special

the 23-year-old had shown more discretion."I thought
tobacco was smoking and shisha pipes were water with
flavour?" Hodgson told journalists on Thursday."As an
ex-cigar smoker, when I tried it, I thought it was a
complete nonsense. I couldn`t understand who would do
it. Apart from a faint fruity taste in your mouth, that was
about the end of it."As far as I am concerned that is a club
matter and (Arsenal manager) Arsene (Wenger) dealt
with it very, very well."If you are asking me, in an ideal
world is that an ideal thing to happen? Of course it isn`t,
but we don`t live in an ideal world."I am happy it has
been dealt with and it won`t occupy a lot of my time with
Jack when I see him because we have a football match to
win."

ICC World Cup 2015: New
Zealand vs Sri Lanka - Live Score
Hello and welcome to our live
updates of the opening match of the
ICC Cricket World Cup 2015 being
played between co-hosts New
Zealand and Sri Lanka in
Christcurch.Asking rate is soaring
with every over for SL, and it seems
as if they have thrown in the towel.
They still required 153 runs in 15
overs, and have just four wickets in
hand. NZ need the wicket of skipper
Angelo Mathews to put all the
Lankan hopes to rest. Thus far
Black Caps have dominated the
game.

Milne picks up his first wicket as
Karunaratne walks back towards
the pavilion. Off the last ball gets
the better of new man Mendis as
well. From here on chances of SL to
win this contest have become real
bleak. NZ are right on top of the
game. If Sri Lanka want to give any
kind of fight to the home team then
they need their skipper, Angelo
Mathews, to play till the very end,
otherwise this match is over for
them. Dimuth Karunaratne and
Angelo Mathews are in middle after
the fall of two quick wickets. Sri
Lanka are on the back-foot.
However, Boult and Vettori are still
not ready to give any kind of
breathing space to the batsmen.
Their tight line and length are
making life even difficult for the
Lankans.
Double blow for Sri
Lanka as both their premier batsmen
-- Sangakkara and Jayawardene -are back in the hut within two overs.
If Vettori gets the better of
Jayawardene then Sangakkara
misses the line of the ball
completely and walks back to the
pavilion off.
Boult strikes,
Thirimanne Out! Boult bowls an
outstanding delivery to clean
bowled the southpaw. With the
wicket of Thirimanne, NZ are right
on top of the game. Kumar
Sangakkara and Lahiru Thirimanne are
playing sensible cricket in the middle as
they are dealing in singles and doubles and
at the same time hitting boundaries
whenever getting loose deliveries. This
partnership is quite crucial for Sri Lanka.
Milne and Vettori are bowling back-toback tight overs. In the last three overs SL
managed to score nineteen runs. Run-rate
and wickets both are vital for SL as they
are chasing an Daniel Vettori strikes!
Veteran spinner outfoxes Dilshan with a
flight as the opener gives back an easy
catch to the bowler. It's a big blow for Sri
Lanka. Kumar Sangakkara is the new man
in. Milne with his second over.
Thirimanne once again plays two
expensive or rather innovative
shots to collect two more
boundaries. The southpaw is now
looking dangerous with every
passing over. NZ concede 12 runs
in the over.
Double bowling
change as Daniel Vettori has also
been introduced. An experienced
campaigner gets the rhythm early
on, which is not a good sign for Sri
Lanka, who are already facing an
imposing total. Meanwhile, SL
cross the 50-run mark. Adam Milne
has been introduced as the first
bowling change. And the medium
pacer bowls a decent first over as he
gives mere four runs. A decent start
by the Lankan openers.
NZ
bowlers are still trying hard to get
their first breakthrough.
Meanwhile, Thirimanne plays a
superb shot towards point region to
collect his fifth boundary. But that's
the only good shot being played in
the over.
Boult with his fourth
over. Now the Sri Lankan openers
are trying to create some room for
themselves as NZ bowlers are too
disciplined. Thirimanne collects
two consecutive boundaries off
fourth and fifth ball to break the
shackles. NZ concede eight runs in
the over. Southee set to bowl his
fourth over. Off the third ball,
Dilshan pulls the short ball towards
square leg for a boundary. Five
runs from the over. But NZ are still
looking for their first
breakthrough.
Both the
strike bowlers are not
offering any room for the
batsmen to free their arms.
They are pitching the ball on
right areas and getting decent
bounce form the wicket. Now
the frustration is quite visible
on the shots batsmen are
trying to play.Boult to bowl
the over. Another tight over
by the left-arm seamer as he
gives mere two runs. Sri
Lankan openers too are
looking in no hurry, as they
must be trying to settle down
first before going for some
expensive shots. Tillakaratne
Dilshan and Lahiru
Thirimanne are opening the
innings for Sri Lanka,
whereas, Tim Southee and
Trent Boult are opening the
bowling for Kiwis. A
disciplined start by the
bowlers. After being invited
to bat first, NZ got off to a
flying start as both the
openers stitched 111 runs in
16 overs for the first wicket.
Then the in-form Kane
Williamson scored yet
another half-century before a
whirlwind knock (75 off 46)
by Corey Anderson, which
helped NZ to put up an
imposing total of 331 runs in
front of Sri Lanka.

said Wawrinka, who last played here in 2005. "I`m getting better and better
with each match."There was nothing really wrong with my game, I think I
did everything pretty well. I`m very pleased with how it went. Gilles has
such a big serve that there is little chance to break him."But I have to keep
up this level for the semi-finals, nothing will be easy."At the top of the draw,
Frenchman Gilles Simon endd a 12-match losing streak to Andy Murray as

been around the top 20 for most of his career. None of the matches I`ve won
against him have been easy. He fights to the end and likes to extend the

was not hitting the ball well from the back of the court and I made a lot of
mistakes in the rallies."- `not afraid at all` -"I`ve lost so many times to
Murray that I`m not afraid at all," said the 19th-ranked French winner. "I
know his game so well, there are no surprises. I knew what to expect and so

worth it. happy that I was successful today. Against Berdych I hope to
continue just like this."Berdych has now reached his third ATP semi-final of
the season after posting his fourth win from five meetings with quirky
French player Monfils, a forBerdych landed on his hand in the third game of
the second set and had the trainer out to take a look before playing on
without incident. The Czech fired seven aces among his 32 winners during
the 71-minute match, breaking on three of nine occasions and never facing a
break point.Monfils, whose enthusiastic game can go on and off the boil in
an instant, saved a match point in the penultimate game before Berdych set
up two more match-winners with a forehand cross-court.

might not be an Ashes eries, but any
match where England and Australia
are up against each other is a mouthwatering contest.Australia are
undoubtedly the favourites to win the
World Cup 2015. They have a very
well composed unit omprising of in-
form players.In the batting
department, Australia have two inform players in David Warner and
Steven Smith. Both the youngsters
have scored heap of runs of late
and they will be well supported by
Shane Watson, George Bailey and
Glenn Maxwell.England on the
other hand performed reasonably
well in the recently concluded ODI
series where they were defeated by
Australia in the final match.Eoin
Morgan, Ian Bell and Joe Root are
some names who will have the

formidable unit in the bowling

I can handle the flak says Manchester
United boss Louis van Gaal
Manchester
Manchester United manager Louis van
Gaal insisted on Friday that he can handle
the mounting criticism of his tactics and
team selections.Van Gaal has come under
fire for using captain Wayne Rooney in
midfield instead of in his preferred position
as a central striker and the Dutchman has
also been slammed for using a long-ball
gameplan at a club famed for its
commitment to entertaining
football.Former United midfielder Paul
Scholes this week said watching United
this season has been a "miserable"
experience because of their style of
play. But, speaking at his press conference
ahead of United`s FA Cup fifth round trip to
Preston on Monday, Van Gaal was adamant
the criticism hasn`t affected him.
"I don`t worry about it, it`s not so
interesting," Van Gaal said."I think because
he (Paul Scholes) is one of the fans, I hope,
and he can criticise. Fans can criticise, and
that`s not a problem."That`s what I have to
say about that. I am used to it and I think all
the players are used to it because they are
not first-time professional football
players."Maybe some players are affected,
but normally most of the time it does not affect
me or the players."
However, Van Gaal did conceded he still
doesn`t know his best starting line-up eight
months into his Old Trafford tenure.
The former Netherlands coach has flipped
between three centre-backs and a flat back four
and also tinkered with the
setup of his midfield and
attack.
"I have played now already
five or six systems and I am
looking still for the balance,"
Van Gaal said."But this
current system is more
attractive than normally and I
can play with more attacking
players."That`s the reason I
am doing that. In spite of the
fact that we are looking for
the balance, our results are
not bad and our defensive
organisation is not bad, we
also score a lot of
goals."Defender Phil Jones
and midfielder Daley Blind
are both doubtful for the trip
to Deepdale, along with
striker Robin van
Persie.Jones left the pitch during the 3-1 win
against Burnley in midweek with an ankle
injury, while Blind suffered a cut above his eye
in that match.Van Gaal refused to reveal the
nature of Dutch striker Van Persie`s knock."I
think Phil Jones shall be difficult to play on
Monday. Daley Blind, I don`t know, we have to
wait and see how he recovers," Van
Gaal said."Robin van Persie also has
something, so now I have given the
players a day off. Only the injured
players have visited our centre, but the
doctor has not called me yet so I cannot
say anything."
United were well below their best
when they squeezed past third tier
Yeovil and fourth tier Cambridge in the
previous two rounds.But Van Gaal
remains confident his players can
handle what should be a raucous
atmosphere at Preston, although he
knows most non-United fans will want
the third tier side to cause a famous FA
Cup upset."We have to play for the
third time a lower team. You know the
world is against you, the environment
is against you because everyone is with
the underdog," Van Gaal added."It is
more difficult to accept but it`s like
that. But the chance that you can
survive is higher because you are
playing against lower qualities.
"You have to beat the team with better
motivation in other circumstances and
in the atmosphere where everyone is
against you."
