The first part of this seminar will address recent developments in
medical law, followed by a discussion that focuses on common
practice issues faced by legal practitioners in this area of practice.
This seminar is organised by the Bar Council Continuing
Professional Development Department.
About the Speakers
Raja Eileen Soraya is a partner with Messrs Raja, Darryl & Loh. She
is a civil litigator and her areas of focus include medical and media
law. She has been recognised for her work in the area of dispute
resolution in the 2014 and 2015 issues of The Legal 500 Asia Pacific.
Her practice in medical law includes the defence of doctors and
hospitals at civil trials, arguments at appellate levels and
representations of medical practitioners at disciplinary inquiries.
She also regularly advises doctors and hospitals on the various
legal and ethical aspects of healthcare. The Vice-President (Legal)
of the Medico-Legal Society of Malaysia, Raja Eileen is frequently
invited to lecture on medico-legal matters and was a regular
contributor to the Medical Tribune.
Raja Eileen graduated from The London School of Economics and
Political Science, London, with a Bachelor of Laws degree with
Honours in 1993, and was called to the English Bar. She is a
member of the Honourable Society of the Inner Temple in London.
She spent a year reading in the Chambers of Farrars Building,
London, before she returned to Malaysia and was admitted as an
advocate and solicitor of the High Court of Malaya in 1997.
Joni Benedict is an associate with Messrs Raja, Darryl & Loh where
she is part of the firm’s medico-legal practice group. Her current
civil litigation practice is focused on medical and administrative
law.
Her work in medical law includes the defence of medical
practitioners and medical centres at civil and quasi-criminal trials
and the representation of medical practitioners at disciplinary
inquiries. She is regularly involved in civil trials and appeals in the
Appellate Courts. Joni also advises medical practitioners and
medical centres on issues relating to the legal and ethical aspects
of healthcare.
Joni graduated from Cardiff University with a Bachelor of Laws
degree with Honours in 2009, and was later called to the English
Bar in 2010 as a member of the Honourable Society of the Middle
Temple in London. Upon her return to Malaysia, Joni read in the
chambers of Messrs Raja, Darryl & Loh and was later admitted as
an advocate and solicitor of the High Court of Malaya in 2011.

minutes late, are not present throughout the event,
or leave before its scheduled end.
