Current Newsletter

Ah, February, the month of love! The dictionary defines love in many ways, including "a strong enthusiasm or liking for
something.” Well, who doesn't "love dancing"! At ONCJC, the love of dancing is quite evident by all the smiling faces of
the members on the dance floor. And we are presented with so many opportunities to share our love of dance.
Randy Wills and his committee provided us with a "clock-in’" good time on New Year’s Eve. The walls of the Quirk
were decorated with clocks which were given away as door prizes. Even the tables were beautifully decorated as
clocks. The music we danced to which was provided by our deejays, the delicious food we ate, including the traditional
sauerkraut, and the fellowship of all who attended added up to a wonderful way to welcome in 2015.
After an icy cold beginning to the New Year, we warmed up last month with the "Soup-er Bowl". Choosing which
soup of those who entered was a very hard task as the club has many good cooks! May Gradwohl won first place and
Penny Inks captured the second place prize. Each lady submitted a delicious tortellini soup. We also collected $110
donation for our charity. Thank you for your generosity.
The new year also brought a new member to the board. Linda Rios, who has served the club in many capacities, was
appointed as acting Vice President. The official vote will be taken at the General meeting on March 11. Welcome,
Linda. We look forward to working with you.
Plan on joining us on Wednesday, February 11 as we celebrate Mardi Gras. The committee is hard at work on this
new event. Rumor has it beads will be available!
Also upcoming is an event sponsored by the Steel City Boogie Club, Boogie in the Burgh. This three day weekend,
filled with lessons, dancing, food, and an opportunity to make new friends, will be held March 27-29 with a pre-event
dance on Thursday, March 26. Our club has always supported this dance weekend. In fact, ONCJC usually has the
second largest group of dancers in attendance. A flyer is in this newsletter, so I hope you look it over and consider
attending. We are also providing a sign-up sheet at the registration table so everyone can see who is going. Need a
roommate? Sign up and see what happens!
The board is always open to any ideas a member may have. Feel free to talk with us at our Wednesday night dances.
Members are also welcome to attend our board meetings held the first Wednesday of the month at 6:15PM.
Until next month, save a dance for me!

Two Important Reminders!
#1- It is VERY important that you check your membership card
for the expiration date! You MUST renew during the month you
joined or lose your $10 renewal discount. You will then have to
pay the full $50 dues.
#2- Show your membership card at the door every Wednesday! It
is helpful for the new folks.

ONCJC has lost a long time member.
His name was Henry (Hank) Bernat,
and in all his circles he was known as
“happy feet”. Hank always had a
smile on his face as he danced with
all the ladies! Hank was 93 years old.
ONCJC sends its deepest sympathy to Linda
Korud who lost her father and Carol Carlton
who lost her mother just after the first of the
year. Their parents were amazing
individuals and loved deeply by their
families. It doesn’t matter how old you are,
or how long your parents live, it is always
hard to lose them. Knowing this, our hearts
go out to both our members at their time of
deep sorrow.

1 pound sweet Italian sausage
1 small onion chopped
3 cans (14 ounces each) of beef broth
3 cans (14 ounces each) of diced tomatoes with basil
and oregano *
1 pound asparagus, approximately
1 bag of frozen cheese tortellini or ravioli
Remove casing from sausage, if using links; sauté
sausage. Then remove excess oil.
Add chopped onion and continue sautéing.Add beef
broth, tomatoes (*can use plain diced tomatoes and
add your own spices).Cook for 20 minutes. Add raw
sliced asparagus, cook for few more minutes. Salt
and pepper to taste. Prepare tortellini/ravioli per
package instructions.
Spoon tortellini in soup bowls, ladle soup over pasta
when ready to serve or add pasta to soup after
pasta is al dente. Better not to boil frozen pasta in
soup mixture as soup gets starchy.
A great big “Thank You Georgia” for acquainting us
with Mid-Ohio Boogie Club! Your club and ours have
been friends since its inception and we wanted our
members to get to know you and Mid-Ohio better.
ONCJC loves your annual event. It is a must on our
Calendar of Events along with several others we plan
to focus on throughout the year.

As you can see, there are many opportunities for everyone to volunteer! The chairperson names are listed for some of the
events. If you would like to help, just let them know or sign up in the book. You are also invited to take on a chairpersonship.
Dianne Beery, Event Chairwoman is there to help in every way!
