TAR HEELS HOST HIGH POINT LOOKING FOR 3-0 START
u Second-ranked North Carolina (2-0) returns home and will look to improve to 3-0 this season
when it hosts High Point (0-0) on Friday at 5 p.m. at Fetzer Field. GoHeels TV will stream the game

u Carolina is 2-0 this season after a 13-9 win at home over unranked James Madison on February
1 and a dominating, 17-11 road win at third-ranked Florida last Saturday.
u Sophomore Alex Moore (a transfer from USC) leads the Tar Heels with eight goals and nine
points this season. She earned ACC Offensive Player of the Week honors this week after her fourgoal performance at Florida and her four-goal, one-assist day against JMU.
u Sophomore Caylee Waters grabbed ACC Defensive Player of the Week honors after making 11
saves and going the distance in goal in the win at Florida.
u Friday’s game will be the season opener for High Point.
u The Tar Heels will play at least eight of the other nine teams in the preseason polls this spring,
including Atlantic Coast Conference rivals Syracuse (No. 4), Virginia (No. 6), Boston College (No. 7),
Duke (No. 8) and Notre Dame (No. 9) and non-conference foes Maryland (No. 1), Florida (No. 3) and
Northwestern (No. 5).
SERIES HISTORY VS. HIGH POINT
u Carolina leads the all-time series with High Point, 2-0. UNC beat the Panthers, 20-4, in 2011
and 15-6 in 2013. The 2011 game was played in Chapel Hill
and the contest two years ago was in High Point.

MARKISON, COPPA LEAD HEELS PAST PANTHERS, 15-6
u Freshman Devin Markison scored a season-high four goals and junior Brittney Coppa scored four times as North Carolina beat High Point, 15-6,
in women’s lacrosse action on March 13, 2013, in High Point, N.C. Carolina dominated from the beginning, scoring three times in the first five minutes
and building a 9-0 lead in the first 25:13 of the game. Coppa scored three of UNC’s first six goals and freshman Sammy Jo Tracy had two.
u After High Point its first goal of the contest with 2:57 left in the half, Markison scored her second goal of the game with 30 seconds to go to give
the Tar Heels a 10-1 halftime lead.
u Markison exploded to score three goals in a span of just 4:04 late in the contest to put the game away for good after High Point had scored three
consecutive times to cut the UNC lead to 11-5.
u Tracy finished with two goals, as did junior Taylor George. Senior Emily Garrity had a goal and an assist, and junior Abbey Friend dished out two
assists. Kara Cannizzaro and Aly Messinger each scored one goal, while Kate Martino, Sam McGee and Paige Hanson had one assist apiece.
u Senior Lauren Maksym started in goal for Carolina and played the first half, recording two saves while allowing one goal. Freshman Megan Ward
played the second half in the cage made three saves with five goals allowed.
MOORE, WATERS GRAB ACC HONORS
u Alex Moore was named the Atlantic
Coast Conference Women’s Lacrosse Offensive
Player of the Week, while teammate Caylee
Waters earned ACC Defensive Player of the
Week honors following a pair of North Carolina
wins to open the season, including a 17-11 road
victory at No. 3/4 Florida.
u Moore, a transfer from USC, scored a
team-high four goals in each of her first two
games as a Tar Heel to lead North Carolina to
wins over James Madison and the third-ranked
Gators. She finished with four goals and an
assist in a 13-9 home win over James Madison
in North Carolina’s season opener on Feb. 1,
then scored four goals at Florida.
u Waters went the distance in the cage
in the win over Florida, making 11 saves,
while playing all 60 minutes of the game. The
sophomore goalie from Darien, Connecticut
also played the first half of the 13-9 win against
James Madison. Waters totaled 14 saves and
four ground balls in the two wins.
TAR HEELS WIN AT FLORIDA, 17-11
u Second-ranked North Carolina (2-0) got
four goals and an assist from fifth-year senior
Brittney Coppa and four goals from sophomore
Alex Moore to pick up a big win on the road
at Florida, 17-11, on Feb. 7. The Gators were
ranked third nationally by the IWLCA and
fourth by the media.
u Moore, a transfer from the University of
Southern California, scored four goals for the
second game in a row and leads the Tar Heels
with eight goals and nine points through two
games. Coppa is second among Tar Heels with
six goals and seven points.
u Carolina also got three goals and an assist
from Sammy Jo Tracy, a goal and three assists
from Aly Messinger, two goals from Kelly Devlin
and single goals from Molly Hendrick, Maggie
Bill and Marie McCool. Sydney Holman added
an assist for UNC. Shannon Gilroy led Florida
with four goals and an assist and Mollie Stevens
also scored four times. Nicole Graziano had
two goals and two assists.
u Carolina broke a 9-all tie with a 4-0 scoring
run in less than five minutes midway through
the second half, opening up a 13-9 lead with
15:30 left on a goal by Tracy. Gilroy then
scored to cut the lead to three goals at 13-10
before the Tar Heels scored four of the game’s
last five goals for the 17-11 final score.
u Sophomore Caylee Waters started in goal
for Carolina and went the distance, recording
11 saves (two off her career high of 13).
TAR HEELS TIE SYRACUSE AT TOP
OF ACC PRESEASON POLL
u North Carolina and Syracuse shared first
place in the 2015 Atlantic Coast Conference
women’s lacrosse preseason poll, released by
the conference. The Tar Heels and Orange both
tallied 59 points and four first-place votes in the
ballotting of the league’s eight head coaches.

season due to knee surgery, is a first-team pick
in the midfield. Sophomore attacker Sydney

TAR HEELS START WITH WIN OVER JMU
u Second-ranked North Carolina (1-0)
got four goals and an assist from sophomore
transfer Alex Moore and opened its 2015
season with a 13-9 victory over James Madison
on Feb. 1 at Fetzer Field. Moore led USC in goals
last year as a freshman before transferring to
UNC in the summer of 2014.
u Molly Hendrick and Brittney Coppa both
scored twice for the Tar Heels, who improved
to 16-4 in season openers and 4-2 against
James Madison in the first meeting between
the schools since 2002.
u The Tar Heels led, 6-5, at halftime before
allowing JMU to take a 7-6 lead on back-to-back
goals by Jaci Gordon and Leah Monticello in the
first seven minutes of the second half. Carolina
then went on a 5-0 run in the next nine minutes
with Moore scoring three of those goals to help

the victory. In addition to Moore, Copa and
Hendrick, Carolina got single goals from Sammy
Jo Tracy, Aly Messinger, Marie McCool, Kelly
Devlin and Ela Hazar. Carly Reed and Sydney
Holman dished out assists for UNC. Several
Tar Heels made their official returns to the
field after missing last season due to injury,
including Tracy (foot), Holman (knee), Coppa
(knee) and Devlin (knee).
u Sophomore Caylee Waters started the
game in goal for Carolina and played the first
half, allowing five goals and making three
saves. Megan Ward (1-0) played the second
half and allowed four goals while making four
saves. Schylar Healy went the distance in the
cage for James Madison, making 11 saves and

Levy enters the 2015 season with a record of 257-100 in her 20th season as the
Carolina head coach, including a 96-26 mark with four NCAA semifinal trips in the
last six seasons. Her Tar Heel program won 200 games in fewer seasons than any
school in Atlantic Coast Conference history.
“Jenny is the reason our team is so close, talking to us whenever we need, bringing her kids to practice, and pushing us as a team; she treats us more like family
than players,” says 2013 Honda Award winner Kara Cannizzaro.
The only head coach in UNC women’s lacrosse history and among the collegiate game’s most noted figures, Levy built the Tar Heel program from scratch.
Levy has guided Carolina to 16 NCAA Tournament bids, seven NCAA
Tournament semifinal appearances, an Atlantic Coast Conference title and the
2013 NCAA title in her 19 seasons. She has been a mainstay on various NCAA,
IWLCA and US Lacrosse national committees.
An outstanding women’s lacrosse player at the University of Virginia from
1988-92 and an assistant field hockey and assistant women’s lacrosse coach
at Georgetown University from 1993-94, Levy was named as Carolina’s first
women’s lacrosse coach in October 1994.
She is a 1992 graduate of the University of Virginia with a BA in rhetoric and
communications and was a member of the U.S. National Team in 1992-93 and
again in 1995. Levy (then known as Jenny Slingluff) played at UVa from 19881992. She led the Cavaliers to the 1991 NCAA championship, scoring three
goals in the title game and five in the semifinal, leading to her selection as the
tournament’s Most Outstanding Attacker.
A two-time first-team All-America, Levy was named the 1992 NCAA Attacker
of the Year. In 2002, she was named one of the top 50 players in ACC history.
She married Dan Levy of Baltimore, Md., in June 1998. Dan is a 1993 UNC
graduate who played lacrosse at Carolina for four years, starring on the 1991
NCAA championship team. The couple has three children - Ryan (born in Jan.
2002), Alec (born in Sept. 2003) and Kathryn (born in July 2006).
