CAPABILITIES AND EXPERIENCE: Since 1989 Mr. Smith has handled numerous damage claims
caused by major storm events including hurricanes. He has worked in the fields of
construction, telecommunications, manufacturing, timber products, and marine consulting. He
has provided marina planning, design, marine product specification and damage assessment
evaluations throughout the United States and abroad. Since starting MSL in 1996, in addition
to management of MSL’s operations, Mr. Smith’s duties have included insurance claim
analysis, design, project management and cost estimating with an emphasis on the
restoration of storm-damaged coastal properties. He has special expertise in areas such as
government agency procurement policies, environmental regulations in coastal regions,
marine construction planning, estimating, and grant application processing. He is the cofounder and President of the Mathews County Land Conservancy, a not-for-profit Virginia
organization, promoting the preservation of natural and historical coastal resources.

CAPABILITIES AND EXPERIENCE: Mr. Tyler has a graduate degree in chemistry and obtained a
Certificate in Environmental and Natural Resources Law from one of the preeminent
environmental law schools in the United States. He practiced law for 17 years focusing on
environmental and commercial litigation, which included construction and insurance matters.
As an attorney, he was involved in numerous meditations that resolved cases without the
need to go to trial. Since 2004, he and Mr. Smith have partnered in several business ventures,
and in 2015 Mr. Tyler decided to leave the practice of law and join MSL full time bringing his
knowledge and expertise to the team.
