Even though our retreat is over, we are still in need of
scholarships. Thanks be to God for the parishioners
who have already provided needed funds to help defray
the parish of offsetting fees that many of our families
cannot afford. Due to the economy, some of the
families of our confirmandi are without employment or
are underemployed. The cost for this weekend is $100
per student. Any amount will be greatly appreciated.
God will abundantly bless you for your kindness and
generosity. Please contact Lin Wyatt at [321]727.1565.

Our Young Adult Ministry Coordinators, Tina and
Charles Lyons, took on the challenge of inviting young
adults to participate in the life of the Church. The goals
set before them are simple and basic:
Connecting young adults with Jesus Christ
Connecting young adults with the Church
Connecting young adults with the mission of the
Church in the world
Connecting young adults with a peer community
Simple but extremely challenging today in a society
where our young adults are struggling to get through
school, work to pay for school, caring for families and
having some semblance of a social life.
The invitation set forth is this. Come to one session and
see what you can achieve through a ministry that will
enable you to organize all of the above. As it is written,
“With God, all things are possible.”
This ministry is open to all single, married, married
with children ages 18- 30.
Next Meeting:
Friday, Feb. 20 - 7:00 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. in Building
100, Room 103. Please call Lin at [321]727.1565 or
email [email protected] for more information.

FAMILY LIFE – THE HEART OF THE CHURCH
What is a Christian Family?
Families, first and foremost, want to be loving, caring and compassionate. Like most things, however, it is a work
in progress. The following is a list of what the family should be striving for.
● Families put faith first. Knowing that they are not alone in the process of parenting and that God is a
partner in this process eliminates stress and anxiety.
● Relationships need to be developed on the basis of acceptance and forgiveness. Affirmation, a sense of
self-worth, and cooperation are crucial for family life.
● Communication skills and conflict resolution skills are essential.
● All family members have a right to participate in family decision making, according to their ability.
● Just as earth’s resources are meant by God for the well-being of all persons and generations, so too our
own possessions and talents are not ours in an exclusive sense; they are gifts meant for the well-being of
others as well.
● The richness of the human family is expressed in the diversity of races and cultures. Each person and
family should seek to be enriched by this diversity.
● Each family member should be encouraged to develop a full a range of emotional, intellectual, and
physical responses and skills as possible, regardless of sex, age, or disability.
● Families are communities with not only an internal mission to love one another and help each family
member grow, but also an external mission; to help build the human family and to challenge those forces,
(for example, racism, sexism, militarism, materialism, ageism) that undermine our fundamental human
unity.
● Families do all this best by working together with other families (parish life enables this).
● Families of faith do all this best when they integrate these concerns explicitly with their faith and
worship.
O Loving God,
Bless our family with your love.
Guard us from all danger and harm;
deliver us from anger that leads to division;
empower us to forgive as we have been forgiven;
and send us into the world
to witness to your love and grace;
in the name of Jesus Christ we pray.
Amen.
LIGHTHOUSE CD’s
Fr. Robert Barron offers five
sermons on the spiritual
discipline we must cultivate in
the Lenten season, a discipline
centered in Christ.
These meditations cover topics such as finding our
identity in God, prayer as the key to mission, our
thirst for God, how to end our alienation from
God, and how to joyfully embrace the way of
happiness. This title and several others are
available at the religious articles store in the
narthex of the church for just $3.00 each.
OPERATION RICE BOWL
Our PREP and St. Joseph Catholic School
students were given their “rice bowls” this past
week. As we begin Lent, it is important for us
to remember those who suffer from hunger
around the world, in our country and in our community.
Forty years ago, Catholics in the United States wanted to
respond to the famine in Africa. Could we feed the
hungry through Lenten prayers, fasting and almsgiving?
The answer was YES—and it came in the form of a small
cardboard box. Forty years later, it still does. And now,
there’s an app for that too. You can download the app
through the Apple APP Store, Google Play at crsricebowl.org. You can follow Operation Rice Bowl on Twitter,
YouTube and Facebook as well.

PARISH COOKBOOK
The Women’s Guild is working
on a Parish Cookbook. We would
like you to get us your favorite
recipe and drop off in the
collection basket or at the parish
office. Be sure to include your name with the recipe
for it will be included in the book. We will do all the
work.
Mass Intentions
Consider offering the bread and wine
for a specific Mass in memory of a loved
one or in special petition for a need or in
thanksgiving for some occasion or blessing.
The cost is $20.00. This provides for the bread and the
wine that will be used at Mass. Remember, the Mass
cannot take place without bread and wine! Call the church
office at 727-1565 for more information.

We still have plenty of our new hymnals
that are available to memorialize a special
loved one or in celebration of a special
event. The cost is $20.00 and the proceeds go to paying off
the new Gather hymnals in the pews. It is a beautiful way
to remember someone close to your heart or celebrate a
special moment in your life or the life of your family. There
will be a special bookplate that will be placed in a hymnal
in the church. Envelopes are available in the church. Thank
you for your generous support.
Vocation Ministry
Our new Vocation Ministry needs your
help to be a success. Only requirement is
to pray for our Priests and Religious all
over the world. Focusing particularly on
our own Parish of St. Joseph that we may increase and
encourage new applicants to the Priesthood and Religious
Life. Come to the 9:45am Mass on Sunday and accept the
Vocation Chalice. Take the Chalice home, place it in a
place of honor to remind you and your family or
individuals to pray for vocations. Return the Chalice the
following Sunday no later than 9:30am to the Church for
the next family to receive it. A Prayer Booklet will be
included. You may sign up in the Vocation book provided
on the table at main entrance of the church. For more
information call Nancy at 321-727-2467.

Masses. For more information call Sandy at

Fasting is observed by
all 18 years of age and
older, who have not yet
celebrated their 59th
birthday. On a fast day
one full meal is allowed.
Two other meals,
sufficient to maintain
strength, may be taken according to each one’s
needs, but together they should not equal another full
meal. Eating between meals is not permitted, but
liquids, including milk and juices, are allowed.
Abstinence is observed by all 14 years of age and
older. On days of abstinence no meat is allowed.
Note that when health or ability to work would be
seriously affected, the law does not oblige. When in
doubt concerning fast and abstinence contact your
parish priest.
Fasting, almsgiving and prayer are there traditional
disciplines of Lent. The faithful and catechumens
should undertake these practices seriously in a spirit
of penance and preparation foe baptism and renewal
of baptism at Easter.
