Northeast and Nitschmann Need Your Vote!
Teams of students from Nitschmann and Northeast, led by their teacher-coaches Evan
Kocon, Brian Burzynski and Rachel Shook, each produced a video as part of
the What’s So Cool About Manufacturing? video contest. They are competing against
teams from 22 different schools in the Lehigh Valley and would really appreciate your
help. The entry that receives the most votes wins the contest’s Viewers Choice Award.
Online voting for the videos begins on Feb 19th and ends on Feb 21st. There is no
limit to how many times you may vote, so please go

Bethlehem Area Public Library has laptops available for use in-house
Bethlehem Area Public Library, 11 W. Church Street, has laptops available for FREE
in-house use by middle and high school students with school ID. A library card is not
required. Link to online research resources, BASD Google Apps and more. Laptops
have Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, and Excel. Save your project to USB or your Google
drive.
Art, drama, a field trip to NCC’s Fab Lab, and books written by popular young adult
authors play out at the Teen Reading Lounge, a free, six-part series for teens and
tweens in grades 6 to 12 at Bethlehem Area Public Library, 11 West Church Street.

School Resources Officers T-shirt Fundraiser
The School Resource Officers, from Liberty High School, Nitschmann, Broughal,
Northeast and East Hills Middle Schools, are having a T-Shirt sale. Profits from the
sale will be used to assist in cost for future training opportunities. The short sleeve tshirt will be Gildan brand, navy blue in color, white lettering, sizes range from Small to
2XL. Cost is $10.00 per shirt. Anyone interested please email Officer Stephanie

requests. Cash only, payment due at time of delivery. Shirt delivery; Orders will be
totaled on Fridays. Money can be delivered to your school's SRO and T-shirts will be

WEEKLY NUTRITION and FITNESS TIPS

Buy local fruits & vegetables whenever possible. Some of the produce in stores could have traveled
thousands of miles. The more time between picking and eating, the more nutrients they loose. If there
is not a lot of local produce in season, consider frozen vegetables. Frozen vegetables can be a healthy
choice because they are frozen soon after being picked, and retain more nutrients. Just avoid the ones
with added seasonings and sauces, which can make them less healthy

The Patriot Swimming & Diving Club Fundraiser
Sicily Pizza, located at 4460 Easton Avenue, is sponsoring the Freedom High School
Patriot Swimming & Diving team fundraiser. Come and help support our local team
from December 5, 2014 thru February 28, 2015. All orders, when the Patriot Swimming
& Diving team is mentioned, generate a 15% donation to our team.
All you have to do is state that you are helping to sponsor the FHS Patriot Swimming
& Diving Team. So please come and enjoy, tell all of your friends and help support our
team.
February 17 – 20 – I “Heart” Inclusion Week
The Bethlehem Area School District Special Education Department is excited to
announce Celebrate Inclusion Week, February 17 - 20, 2015! BASD is a proud,
inclusionary district where ALL students are welcomed and celebrated for who they
are. Students with disabilities help to make our schools rich, interesting, engaging
and diverse. Celebrate Inclusion Week is a chance for students, faculty, parents and
community to celebrate our inclusionary practices and to be bold in showing our
pride in what we do well!
All schools will be teaching a lesson about inclusion to all students, the lesson plan
is available on the website below. As a result of this lesson, each student will fill out
a template sharing what " an inclusive school means..." on a heart template. Each
school will be hanging the hearts in their lobbies, cafeterias and other public
spaces.
In addition, each school will be conducting one other activity to celebrate
inclusionary practices during the week. High school students will be reading with
elementary students, buddy activities, art projects and assemblies will be occurring
across the district. There is also an essay contest, which the winning essay will be
published on our website and in other local media. The website below has resources

East Hills Middle School will present Aladdin Jr. Musical on Friday, February 20 at
7:30 pm. Saturday, February 21 at 2 pm and 7:30 pm. Sunday, February 22 at 2

Saturday, February 21, 2015 – Kidz Artz Zone
The Bethlehem Area Public Library introduces children ages 6 to 12 to Greek
mythology and the night sky at this month’s art class. Make an edible 3D
constellation at Kidz Art Zone at the South Side Branch, 400 Webster Street, on
Saturday, February 21 at 1:00 p.m. Free and all materials are supplied.

Yard Sale at Governor Wolf. Here’s how it works: Rent a table or “space” at
school. Bring in your children’s yard sale items (or whatever you have to sell) for
display and set them up at your table or space. You keep all the proceeds – just
like a yard sale! *CALLING ALL INDEPENDENT CONSULTANTS! Do you sell 31,
Premier Jewelry, Scentsy, Tastefully Simple, etc? You can rent a space for $15 in
the GW hallways to promote your business/sell your items. (MUST bring your own
table). Only one consultant per company will be accepted. Set up will be Friday,
Feb. 27th from 6-10pm (or Apr. 10th if the snow date applies). During that time,
your items are brought from home and set up at your reserved table or space.

Cash Bingo will be held at Governor Wolf Elementary School located at 1920
Butztown Rd. in Bethlehem on Saturday, March 14th starting at 1 pm. Doors open

Saturday, March 14 – Kira Willey and Friends Benefit Concert
April 2-28 - BASD Student Art Show - A Colorful Experience: Art in the Public Schools
Come visit the Bethlehem City Hall Rotunda Gallery during the month of April for
our BASD student art show. The show will be on display from April 2 until April 28
during regular city hall hours. Please attend the opening reception on April 12,
2015, from 2-4 pm. This show will feature work by students from K-12. In the
exhibit you will see but a small part of the wonderful body of artwork produced by
the many children in our classrooms on a daily basis. This event is made possible
with the help of the Bethlehem Fine Arts Commission and the BASD art teachers.
Saturday, April 11, 2015 – BASD mini-Thon
This year’s BASD mini-Thon will take place on Saturday, April 11, 2015 from 10 am
– 10 pm at Liberty High School. Come and join the fun while supporting a great
fundraiser. There will be something for everyone!
Saturday, April 18, 2015–2015 Cops 'n' Kids Celebration of Reading . . . and the Arts
and Sciences
With the help of our entire community, the award-winning Cops 'n' Kids Children's
Literacy Program has reached a remarkable milestone, distributing more
than 625,000 free books thus far. To celebrate this accomplishment, and the
children of our community, we invite you to join us (rain or shine) on Saturday, April
18, 2014 from 11 am-3 pm for a day of food, fun, family, crafts, entertainment,
laughter--and, of course, literacy! The event will take place at 511 East Third Street.
There will be an indoor and outdoor stage. This year we will also be saying "Happy
Tenth Birthday" to the Northampton Community College Fowler Family Southside
Center--the home of Cops 'n' Kids. If you want to join the planning committee for
this special event, or if you are interested in having your students perform, please
