again partnering up with the Towson University Dance
Team to bring you the annual
Mid-Atlantic Dance Competition!
Inferno Dance has experience conducting dance
team competitions for schools, all-star gyms, and
collegiate programs. Our experience working with
over 100 dance teams across the nation has given us
the knowledge to bring you the best competition possible!
Dance is our only focus, we do not combine this
competition with cheer! High School, Middle
School, All-Star and Collegiate dance teams
are welcome to participate!

HIP HOP DESCRIPTION
Participants in the hip hop/funk division integrate the latest street dance moves into their routines. These moves
are executed with strong musical interpretation and style utilizing body isolations and rhythm variations.
Participants are evaluated on street moves, levels, tempo variations, floor work, etc.
POM DESCRIPTION
Participants in the cheer/pom division utilize cheer/pom motions in their routines to accent the music and
formations. Motions are performed with exact placement, superior control, sharp motions, uniformity/precision,
and strength of movements. Poms are not required.
JAZZ DESCRIPTION
Participants in the jazz division integrate jazz choreography executed with strong technique, control, extension,
spatial awareness, musical interpretation, and strength in movement, with emphasis on strong lines, flow and
continuity. Participants are evaluated on technique, body placement, style, control, extensions, leaps, turns, and
jumps.
LYRICAL DESCRIPTION
Participants in the lyrical division integrate the use of balance, flexibility, and control to express emotion or
observations found in the lyrics or mood of the music. Participants convey the emotion or mood of a song as they
interpret their performance. Participants tell a story utilizing dance moves that connect and flow throughout the
dance.
OPEN DESCRIPTION
Participants in the open division perform routines that (1) incorporate a combination of styles or (2) the routine is a
style unto itself. Participants are evaluated on interpretation and command of style.
EXAMPLE 1: Your routine incorporates hip hop, pom, and jazz elements.
EXAMPLE 2: Your team performs a 'swing' routine that incorporates the traditional moves, lifts, steps consistent
with the 'swing' style. Your routine is a 'swing' routine and not really a jazz routine.

Small Group = 4 to 11 members
Large Group = 12 or more members
Average Age of Participants
Add the ages of all the participants and then divide that number by the number of participants.
Ages are rounded off to the closest age (an average age of 11.8 would compete in the 12 to 14 age division).
7 years & under - 8 to 10 years - 11 to 14 years - 15 to 18 years - 19 and over
EVENT TIMES
The performance times will be emailed out to each coach prior to the event. This is a one day event. Doors
open at 9:00 am.
DISQUALIFICATIONS
Teams will be disqualified if they violate any division, grade, or age rules.
COMPETITION DIVISIONS
The AVERAGE age determines the age division where you will compete. Add the ages of all the contestants,
and then divide by the number of contestants. Ages are rounded off to the closest age (an average age of 11.8
would compete in the 12 to 14 age division). The sponsors of the Mid Atlantic Championship reserve the right
to disqualify any squad who does not comply with division rules.
LEGALITY VERIFICATION
All questions must be in written form. Due to the differences in interpretation and terminology, and to give
your team the best answer to your question no phone calls will be accepted. The sponsors of the Mid Atlantic
Championship will not review legality on the day of the event.
PROPS
Props (other than hand held poms) must be approved by the sponsors of the Mid Atlantic Championship before the event.
VIDEO TAPING
Parents may ONLY videotape their child’s team.
WEATHER
Check our website (www.infernodance.com and www.towsondanceteam.com) for updates
closer to the event. If the event is cancelled, it will be rescheduled for another date. An email will be sent with
any event changes. If you are unable to attend the rescheduled date, no refunds will be given.
HAIR/ JEWELRY/ GLITTER
Dancers may wear their hair in a manner that fits the style of their routine or costume design. Dancers may
wear jewelry that fits the style of their routine or costume design. A moderate amount of glitter is allowed.
SURFACE
The dance floor measures 40' wide by 35' deep.
The floor is a dance surface.
MUSIC TIME LIMITS
Solos: The maximum time limit is 3:00 minutes.
The minimum time limit is 1:15.
Duos/Trios: The maximum time limit is 3:00 minutes.
The minimum time limit is 1:15.
Small Team and Large Teams: The maximum time limit is 3:00 minutes. The minimum time limit is 1:15
Timing will begin with the first movement or sound of music.
