SCAR Boulder Clearance
Capabilities
The SCAR Modular Trenching System has been
developed to deliver an all-in-one or onepart solution to trenching and pipe/cable lay
operations.
SCAR in boulder clearance mode can remove boulders from a predetermined corridor from 10m wide in one pass.
Demonstrated capability to significantly wider corridor using multiple
passes to 20m and wider.
SCAR Seabed Preparation/
Boulder Clearance Key Features:
Proven capacity to handle boulders > 2m dia, rough
terrain, mega-ripples
Operated successfully in harsh work environments e.g. Laggan
Tormore, Humber Estuary: launched in 3m significant waves; operated
in strong currents; handled 300kPa. Removed gravel, cobbles and
boulders up to 2m.
Accurate positioning allows for safe deployment and avoidance of
subsea structures if required.
Unexploded Ordinance removal application
Why SCAR?
Subsea Trenching System SCAR Plough:
Available configurations:
- Seabed Preparation/Boulder Clearance
- Trenching Plough pre-cut/post lay
- Umbilical Plough (multi-pass)
- Backfill Plough
Variable Soils Capacity
(clays, sands, gravel and silt)
Economic cost per metre
Expandable clearance width
5 to 250 tonne pull capacity – smaller tow forces allow
smaller support vessels hence low fuel consumption,
more efficient and reduced CO2 emissions
Low Mobilisation Costs
Can be launched and recovered from a range of vessels
in high sea states - no A-frame required. No crane
required if stern roller available
Very high power to weight ratio
Low bollard pull hence low fuel consumption, more
efficient and reduced CO2 emissions
Road/container transportable
– available worldwide
Steerability – proven ability to follow vessel route
accurately
Can operate in deep or shallow water
and at shore ends
<50m turning circle
Decommissioning applications
Suitable for both the Oil & Gas
and Renewables sectors
With rough terrain a speciality, SCAR is robust and reliable in conditions too difficult for conventional ploughs to handle.
SCAR is simple, effective and low maintenance.
