Lent & Easter Schedule - 2015 - LENT Lent is the penitential season of the Church’s year, beginning on Ash Wednesday and ending with Mass of the Lord’s Supper on Holy Thursday. Lent has six Sundays, the sixth of, which is called Palm Sunday of the Lord’s Passion and marks the beginning of Holy Week. The Easter Triduum begins with the evening Mass of the Lord’s Supper on Holy Thursday. It commemorates the Lord’s passion and death on Good Friday, and reaches its high point at the Easter Vigil on Holy Saturday evening and ends with evening Prayer on Easter. Traditionally the Lenten season is a time of penance throughout the Universal Church. Lent is also a season in which prayer, the reception of the sacraments, charity and almsgiving are emphasized. Fast and abstinence are to be observed on Ash Wednesday and Good Friday. All the Fridays of Lent are days of abstinence from meat. REGULATIONS FOR 2015 WEEKDAYS OF LENT: There is no obligation to fast. However, voluntary acts of selfdenial, almsgiving, and Scripture reading are recommended. ASH WEDNESDAY & GOOD FRIDAY: Days of Fast & Abstinence. Limit of ONE full meal on these days for all between the ages of 18 years to 59 years inclusive. All who have reached their 14th year are bound to abstain totally from meat on these days. Mass with Blessing and Distribution of Ashes FEBRUARY 18, 2015 at 7:00 AM & 7:00 PM DAYS OF ABSTINENCE (ALL FRIDAYS IN LENT): All who have reached their 14th year are bound to abstain totally from meat on these Fridays. EASTER DUTY OBLIGATION: All the faithful, after they have been initiated into the Most Holy Eucharist, are bound by the obligation of receiving Communion at least once a year. This precept is to be fulfilled during the Easter Season unless it is fulfilled for a just cause at some other time during the year.
