Ladies and gentlemen,
The healthcare sector is growing in North-Rhine Westphalia in a very dynamic way and has long become the
largest employer in the state: more than 1.1 million people are working in more than 60,000 companies. This
means every eighth employee is employed in the healthcare sector. The wide range of services being offered in
this sector includes everything from the development
and production of innovative medical technology products and the provision of medical care and nursing services to the research being carried
out at universities and institutes.

of any age can receive good medical care and at the same time, have all
of their needs heard and taken seriously, not only as a patient but also
as a human being? What steps do we have to take in order to enforce
the human right of self-determination, also in cases of illness or where a
person is in need of nursing care? These are issues which are being successfully addressed not only in politics, but also in the healthcare sector:
Even now we can see many examples of the fact that, orienting health
services to the needs of people and economic efficiency do not have to
be a contraction in terms. Health 3.0 has exactly the right focus with its
triad approach: "innovation - quality - sustainability".
At the same time, the healthcare sector is playing an ever
more important socio-political role, in part due to demographic trends, and more attention must be paid to prevention.
We cannot allow a situation where children have less favourable opportunities in life than their healthy counterparts due
to health restrictions, like malnutrition or motor skill deficits. For this
reason, we must also focus our attention more on how we maintain
good health and how we can protect our health before we become ill.
This, of course, is true for all generations.
If we take the right steps now, soon we will find ourselves not far from
achieving "Health 3.0". With this in mind, I wish you all the best for
your conference.

At the same time it is becoming ever more important to think about
health and psycho-social factors in conjunction with each other. What

market and EU-wide harmonisation are important topics for setting the
direction of future developments in the healthcare system. Know-how,
research and production are increasing becoming interlinked and are
being generated internationally. At the same time, international markets
offer important opportunities for exporting medical technologies and
healthcare models.
The most important challenge for the healthcare system in the future is interlinking innovations in medicine
and medical technology with efficient and patient-focused medical care. This requires strategic reorientation in parts of the healthcare system. Among others,
some important areas for action are: A stronger interdisciplinary approach in the development of technology; facilitation of innovative networks as strategic,
interdisciplinary cooperation efforts between universities, companies, and healthcare providers; focusing the
healthcare system on the needs of patients and users
for providing made-to-measure treatment and care options, coupled
with a high level of transparency in regards to the quality of the care
options available; investments in the infrastructure of the healthcare
system for safely saving and using a large amount of data, as well as
establishing closer links between healthcare, economic, educational
and research policies, which are necessary for this.
Health 3.0 is intended to foster the direction and reorganisation of
these issues, to act as a future-oriented catalyst, and to promote the networking of all of the players in the market. Last but not least, the innovative drive of the healthcare system should be supported in a sustainable
way as economic and growth factors in the present and in the future.
At the present time we are currently experiencing great breakthroughs: The drivers of these changes are the rapid developments in
the areas of analytical medical technologies, personalised medicine
and the imaging methods, as well as the collection of personal data
by the user himself, using end devices such as smartphones. However,
the infrastructure for the management and the interlinking of this huge
amount of data is only sporadically available. In particular, strict requirements for data protection and data quality must be guaranteed
in order to make it possible to use this data on a routine basis. Personalised medicine, telemedical services and assisted living devices for
use when providing care at home to those who require it are futureoriented approaches. An important issue to be discussed in this context
is the issue of the cost/benefit assessment of medical technological

Health 3.0 - Networks Work
Hardly anyone would dispute how medical treatment
should have been done in a few years. Sector boundaries
will no longer play a role and physicians and non-physicians will work together in trusting partnerships; every
patient will be provided support for as long as necessary,
and there won’t be any more disruptions.

patient is sent from one ward to the next, his medical records are already
there and he takes an active role in this process. Both hospitals, as well
as registered physicians and non-physicians exchange information with
each other in order to find the right course of treatment.
The industry is lending a helping hand during this change process; it
makes non-technology popular and also paves the way for Health 3.0
with the patients in mind. The policies act as the referee on this playing
field, and they create a basis so that the system can be developed further.
A utopia? I hope not, and my belief that this can be achieved continues
to grow. Yes, this is really true, because I keep meeting more and more
people who know that we cannot overcome future challenges with the
current type of cooperative work being undertaken - or perhaps it would
be better said - with the lack of cooperation that currently exists.
Yes, I am a true believer and I sincerely hope to find a lot of allies during
Health 3.0.
Hence, I truly believe that the system will evolve because individual players
decide to take action, and the number of players which are doing precisely
this will continue to increase.
These changes can be summarised well in the concept of Health 3.0.

In 2013 Health 3.0 came into existence as a new forum for change, and the start has been quite successful
– even if there have been a few minor stumbling blocks
along the way. The conference showed that the impact
of IT technology and social networks on the healthcare
industry are more serious than previously anticipated.

we can design the systems. And we have a lot to offer in this respect.

this conference intend to offer; they are well aware of the social, cultural
and ethical aspects of the developments and see this event as another
small component in facilitating the exchange of information.
People are using the new options available to them, technology is offering them new options, and people's behaviours are changing, as are
the economic processes and value added chains. This dimension is one
of the main issues to be addressed during Health 3.0, so that we can
become aware of the opportunities, risks and consequences that these
developments have on the local healthcare system, industry, the scientific process, and the communities in NRW, Germany & Europe. The
technological revolution, which is incidentally a social and economic
revolution too, has already left its mark in Europe, and the main issue is

Since 2014 "Horizon 2020" has been linked with the 7th EU Research Framework Programme (FRP). All programmes sponsored by the
European Commission relating to research and innovation have been brought together under the largest EU research and innovation programme to date. The financial instrument supports the implementation of the Innovation Union, a EU 2020 flagship incentive, for ensuring
Europe's competitiveness in the global marketplace. During a time period of more than 7 years (2014-2020), almost 80 billion euros will be
made available, in addition to private investments.
The programme promises inventions, breakthroughs and world firsts by bringing knowledge and ideas from the laboratory to the European

The hotel is centrally located, and at the same time, it is situated in a quite northern neighbourhood of Düsseldorf; it is very
close to the ISS Dome and the motorway junction of the A44 and A52. The hotel soars above the city of Düsseldorf

The fundamental idea behind Health 3.0 is to reflect on the current
situation in all of the significant areas in the healthcare system.
Obstacles in the development of the healthcare system can be addressed
and be broken down in the dialogue between commerce, politicians, administrators and other players in the healthcare system. Improved and
solution-oriented efforts are required for the future, which first and foremost need to be implemented quickly and in-line with the international
changes taking place in the global healthcare "ecosystem".
Thus, Health 3.0 not only represents a dialogue-oriented event, but it

The Health 3.0 Conference is especially geared towards doctors, pharmacists, healthcare professionals, nursing staff, hospitals, rehabilitation

2015, we will charge you a one-time processing fee in the amount of € 150.- plus
