Term 1 Week 4
We have been advised by Ku-ring-gai
Council regarding the removal of a tree in
Dawson Place – please see copy of Council
letter in this newsletter.
Principal’s Message:
Dear Parents
Unfortunately, Miss McMillan has decided to
not continue at TPS and so will not return to her
class here. I am endeavouring to fill this position
as quickly as possible so that the class can
continue with the current program with little
disruption.
I have also completed the staffing for the Year
6 class and the teacher (Miss Laura Smith) will
commence Term 2. Miss Smith is currently
working at Pennant Hills Public School and her
Principal requested she complete the term. Miss
Carroll will remain on 6C until this time.
We have our parent evenings this Wednesday
night commencing at 5:30pm for K-2 classes,
6:15pm for RFF and myself, followed by 3-6 at
7:00pm. This will not include 2M this week. This
meeting will be rescheduled in the coming weeks
once the teacher has been appointed. Thank you
for your understanding with this situation
Swimming School is going really well with the
children enjoying great weather and learning so
much in their days at the pool.
P&C meeting is next week at 7:30pm in the
staffroom. All are welcome to join us. P&C Exec
will meet in my office Friday morning at 7:45am.
We are certainly off to a running start and
there are many events and exciting programs that
we are eager to embark upon this year. The New
Maths curriculum will be the centre of attention for
staff training especially this semester.
Have a lovely week

aware that the $3 entry for spectators may
vary. Mrs Michelle Eyre has kindly offered to
be our Team Manager again this year (thanks
Michelle ) so all competitors must report to
her at the poolside to get their TPS Zone
swimming cap on the day. She will ensure the
day runs smoothly for our students as both
Mrs Levin and I will be occupied doing jobs for
the Zone Convener on the day.
PSSA and Friday sport groups began last
week. Tennis is hugely popular and the Stage
3 students were enjoying the lesson until we
got rained out! Hopefully the weather will be
kinder this Friday. The PSSA draw is now out
for this term. All games bar one are “at home”
which is fantastic. The draw is published later
in the newsletter.

I hope everyone is getting back into the

hope we see as many of you as possible at
next Tuesday's P&C meeting at 7:30 in the

parents too. Please find the agenda attached
to this newsletter. Unfortunately Nicole our
lovely treasurer due to a change in
circumstances is unable to continue in the role
and so we are in need of a new treasurer.
Please consider putting up your hand to help
the P&C. We would ideally like to be able to
have a nominee or two or three.... for next
Tuesday night to be able to vote in a
replacement and set up handover of the role.
All nominations are welcome and can be sent

A reminder that we need two class parents
from each class again this year. Some classes
only had one last year, and that places a lot of
pressure on the one person without a back up.
Finally, just a reminder that we have a few
events planned for this year with the Election
Day stalls and then the Easter egg hunt and
camp out.

after their school day.
The students will wear a mufti of their
favourite socks and T-shirt and their usual sports
shorts/skirt.

Challis Singers Community Choir
Can you sing in tune? Find yourself tapping your
feet to songs on the radio? Got a little bit of X, Y or Z
factor?
Perhaps you'd like to join our local choir!
Challis Singers is a non-auditioning community
choir that performs 1-2 concerts per year. This year our
first concert (in June) features music with Celtic origins,
ranging from traditional folk tunes to current pop songs.
We rehearse on Monday nights in Turramurra from
7.30 - 9.30 pm.
We welcome any new members, men or women.
We will also be looking for children to join us for
our June concert. Children will need to attend
(probably) three Sunday afternoon rehearsals and one
dress rehearsal – details of rehearsals are yet to be
developed.

ATTENDING TUTORIALS/LESSONS
Parents are welcome to attend their child’s lesson, to observe and take any notes that may assist
their child during home practice. We do however ask that distractions, like siblings or phone
conversations, are kept outside the tutorial room. Video recording of the lesson is also a distraction
and may breech the Tutor’s privacy. Please talk to your child’s tutor if you need help in how to guide
practice times at home.

P&C Information
Dear Families
We have had some very exciting news. Shortly after I took on this role I applied for a grant to
enhance the play equipment in the infants area. Given it was my first grant application, and having
only found out about it with a day or two's notice I did not expect to be successful. This week we have
received notification that we have been successful for the full amount I applied for! They have
indicated that as long as all conditions and any additional requirements are met (they will be on
contact shortly to discuss these) then we can expect a contract for the full $63 thousand dollars to be
forwarded before the end of April 2015. I hope you share my excitement, and look forward to an
expanded, accessible new enhanced playground by mid 2015.
We are currently working on having the air conditioning installation scheduled. The school electrical
load testing has been completed. Without a further major electrical upgrade (to the cost of approx 1/2
million dollars) air conditioning can go into an additional 7-8 class rooms. The P&C are working with
Margaret to identify the hottest classrooms while also trying to ensure that in all sections of the school
only two classes maximum would need to combine on any given extra hot day so as to minimise any
disruption to classes in the future. As a result of the fair we have sufficient funds to fund all of these
air conditioners.
As promised the school and the P&C have put together a draft calendar of major events in 2015.
While these dates are subject to change if necessary, they will hopefully allow parents and extended
families in these very busy times to plan better and allow anyone wanting to attend events, the time to
plan to enable this. Please see the bottom of this e-mail for these dates.
All 2015 P&C events are also now available to be booked on the trybooking website. All events
should appear when you search Turramurra Public School or TPS P&C. The Easter Egg Hunt and
camp out in term one has limited capacity so get in early for this event.
The major fundraiser in 2015 will be a school cookbook professionally published. This will be a great
opportunity for children and families to participate in designing and documenting their favourite
recipes or family secrets!
– Issue 3 – Tuesday, 17th February, 2015 – page 19
We will be seeking involvement and sponsorship from businesses, so if you know anyone that would
be interested please let me know. If there are any parents who are willing to help with photography
and design, or recipe testing, please also get in contact with me at [email protected]. I will
be working on the details over the holidays and will communicate this early in term 1. The cookbook
will be a project undertaken over the first 2-3 terms, published ready for release in term 4, perfect for
family Christmas presents.
I want to thank each and every one of you for your support. We look forward to working with you for
the benefit of the children and school again in 2015.
