Readings
March 1 2015 ~ Second Sunday of Lent
1st Reading: Genesis 22:1-2,9a, 10-13, 15-18 (26B)
2nd Reading: Romans 8:31b-34

~ Pastor’s Message ~ 1st Sunday Lent
Pope Francis’ top 75 inspiring quotes continued (more
to follow).
15. “The family is where we are formed as people. Every
family is a brick in the building of society.”
16. “There is no cross, big or small, in our life which the
Lord does not share with us.”
17. “Gossip can also kill, because it kills the reputation
of the person! It is so terrible to gossip! At first it may
seem like a nice thing, even amusing, like enjoying a
candy. But in the end, it fills the heart with bitterness,
and even poisons us.”
18. “We cannot sleep peacefully while babies are dying
of hunger and the elderly are without medical assistance.”
19. “The principal mission of the Church is evangelization, bringing the Good News to everyone.”
20. “Let the Church always be a place of mercy and hope, where everyone is welcomed, loved and forgiven.”
21. “We now live in a culture of the temporary, in which more and more people are simply giving up on marriage
as a public commitment.”
22. “Christianity spreads through the joy of disciples who know that they are loved and saved.”
23. “Journeying is precisely the art of looking toward the horizon, thinking where I want to go but also enduring the
fatigue of the journey, which is sometimes difficult. … There are dark days, even days when we fail, even days
when we fall … but always think of this: Don’t be afraid of failures. Don’t be afraid of falling.”
24. “The secret of Christian living is love. Only love fills the empty spaces caused by evil.”
25. “The measure of the greatness of a society is found in the way it treats those most in need, those who have nothing apart from their poverty.”
26. “The love of God is not generic. God looks with love upon every man and woman, calling them by name.”
27. “Inconsistency on the part of pastors and the faithful between what they say and what they do, between word and manner of life, is undermining the Church’s credibility.”

“After John had been arrested, Jesus came to Galilee
proclaiming the gospel of God….” – Mark 1:14
Do you ever think about how difficult it must have
been for Jesus to come into Galilee, knowing that John
had just been arrested for teaching the same message
that Jesus was proclaiming. It must have taken great
love and trust for Jesus to do what the Father had sent
Him here on earth to do. In the same way, following a
life of stewardship takes great love and trust from us.
We must be willing to surrender completely to God,
trusting that God will always give us all that we need to
fulfill His plan for us.

Youth Ministry
Our Confirmation program has had a few big changes this year. We started with our Fall Adventure Day
in October, we’ve added some new and exciting pieces to our curriculum and materials and now we have our
last new piece to add in.
During our family information meeting in the fall, we talked about having parents and sponsors participate in
the final 8 weeks of our time together. We’re almost at that time. Here’s your reminder: Our final 8 sessions of confirmation prep begin on Wednesday, February 25. We need you, patents and/or sponsors, to join
us for 6 out of those 8 gatherings. Jump in, have fun, see what your students are up to… maybe even remember something you haven’t thought about in a while! We need you here with us to prepare to celebrate
the sacrament in May.
Youth Ministry After Action Report:
Last weekend Youth Ministry sent a team of 19 to work at the Northeast Emergency Food Pantry. While they were there, the team
stocked shelves, unloaded donations, ran a food drive and sort clothes
for the clothes closet. Thanks to everyone for your hard work!
Marriage and Family Life
The Holy Father has requested a consultation with the People of God on marriage and family life issues. We
invite you to join us for the second half of our ongoing discussions to answer some questions put forth by our
Archbishop Sample regarding Marriage and Family life.
There are no right or wrong answers. We are just honestly responding to questions being asked by Archbishop Sample regarding marriage, family life and how well you feel supported in your marriage
vocation.
Please meet in the Library Sunday March 1st at 9:50 am. Bring your
breakfast tray with you. If you go on line at www.archdpdx.org and
pull up marriage and family you can get the entire set of questions
for reflection.
