Engineering Entrance Test Brief:
Engineering Entrance Exams have always been the hot choice for millions of higher secondary students, who dream
to pursue attractive careers in Engineering. Most of the national as well as state level Engineering Entrance Tests like
JEE (Main & Advanced), IIITs, NITs, CFTIs and for other Engineering Colleges of India, are held in the months
of April / May / June for the academic year starting from July / August of the following year.
The Ministry of Human Resource & Development (MHRD), Govt. of India directed in 2013 to conduct
combined entrance tests called Joint Entrance Exam (JEE) for all IITs, NITs, IIITs, and other State & IIT-JEE
affiliated Engineering colleges in India.
The JEE has been divided into two phases: JEE (Main) – A common entrance test for admission to undergraduate
degree programs in India's government as well as private Engineering / Science Institutions/ Colleges/ Universities,
and the screening test for the IITs. JEE (Advanced) – This is conducted for the admission into the very coveted IITs
after JEE (Main).
Scheme of Exams:
JEE (Main): There is one paper in this exam, which contains 90 questions; 30 questions from each section –
Physics, Chemistry and Maths. Each question carries 4 marks with a total 360 marks. There is ¼ negative marking,
means 1 mark will be deducted for each incorrect answer.
JEE (Advanced): There are two papers in this exam. Each paper contains 60 questions. Each section – Physics,
Chemistry and Maths contains 20 questions. Each question carries 3 marks with a total 180 marks. There is also
negative marking in some sections of this paper.
VITEEE: In the Vellore Institute of Technology Engineering Entrance Exam, there are 3 parts –Physics, Chemistry
and Mathematics / Biology. Each part contains 40 questions with equal weightage. The total number of questions
is 120. Each question carries one mark with a total 120 marks.
BITS-Pilani: In BITSAT entrance test, there is one paper containing 4 parts. Physics in part-I contains 40 questions;
Chemistry in part-II also contains 40 questions; part-III contains three sub-sections: (a) English Proficiency-15
questions & (b) Logical Reasoning-10 questions; Mathematics in part-IV contains 45 questions. Total no of questions
is 150, each question carries 3 marks with a total 450 marks.

About JEE (Advanced)
The JEE (Advanced) - will be conducted by seven zonal IITs (under the directives of the Joint Admission Board) for
admission to the undergraduate programmers in all IITs. All the candidates aspiring to take admission in the
undergraduate programmers at IITs and ISM Dhanbad for the year 2015 will have to appear in the JEE (Main) - 2015
(Paper 1).

Eligibility Criteria
The following criteria shall be followed to appear in JEE (Advanced) 2015
1. Date of Birth - Candidates of GE and OBC categories must have been born on or after October
01, 1990 and those of SC, ST and PWD categories must have been born on or after October
01, 1985. [Date of birth as recorded in the Secondary Education Board/University certificate
will only be considered.]
2. Number of Attempts - A candidate can attempt JEE (Advanced) a maximum of two times and
that too, inconsecutive years.
3. Number of Subjects in the Qualifying Examination - Candidates must have taken at least five
subjects i.e. (1-Language, 2-Physics, 3-Mathematics, 4-Any one of the (subjects—Chemistry,
Biology, Biotechnology, Technical & Vocational Subjects), 5-Any other subject) in class 12th /
qualifying examination in order to be eligible for writing JEE (Advanced) - 2015. With at least
45% (40% in reserved category) marks in above subjects taken together.
4. Academic Qualification - The candidate must have passed in final examination of Class 12th
or other qualifying examination. Those appearing in these examinations in 2015 can also
appear in JEE (Advanced) - 2015 provisionally.
5. Qualifying Examination (QE) - Admission to IITs and ISM Dhanbad will be based only on
category wise All India Rank (AIR) in JEE (Advanced)-2015 subject to the condition that such
candidates are among the top 20 percentile of successful candidates of their Boards in
respective categories. PwD candidates will be given relaxation in the eligibility criteria as per
the decision of the Joint Admission Board of JEE (Advanced)-2015. The student must have
studied Physics, Chemistry & Maths in Class-XII.
6. JEE (Advanced) Merit List for IITs will be announced on the basis of
a. Merit list prepared based on Marks of JEE (Advanced)
b. All students to be in top 20 percentile of their class XII exams (Mandatory condition)

Exam Structure
The JEE (Advanced) consists of two objective type papers i.e., Paper-1 & Paper-2. Each Paper consists of three
parts – Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics with 2 separate Sections-1 & 2 in Paper-1 and 3 separate Sections-1, 2,
3 in Paper-2. Each paper contains total 60 questions consisting of 20 questions in each subject of 60 marks. The
maximum marks are 180 per paper. Duration of each paper is 3 hours. In some sections, incorrect answers will be
awarded negative marks. Question papers are provided in both English and Hindi Medium.

Candidates interested for JEE (Main) - 2015 have to apply online only. There is no printed application form
for JEE (Main).
The JEE (Main) will be conducted by the JEE Apex Board (JAB). The Paper-1 of JEE (Main) will also be the
‘eligibility-cum-screening-test’ for the JEE (Advanced), which the candidate has to take compulsorily if
he/she is aspiring for admission to the undergraduate programmes offered by the IITs / ISM-Dhanbad.
JEE (Main) – 2015 shall have two papers, Paper-1 for B. E. /B. Tech. and Paper-2 for B. Arch. /B. Planning.
The Paper-1 of JEE (Main) will be conducted in two separate modes i.e. Offline (Pen and Paper based
exam) or Online (Computer based exam) modes. A candidate will opt for either Offline or Online modes for
Paper-1 only. The Paper-2 of JEE (Main) will be conducted only in Offline mode.
The Offline Exam will be on 1st week of April and Online Exam on 2nd week of April.
The JEE (Main) Paper-1 is consist of 90 questions (30 questions in each subject). Each question carries 4
marks. 1/4th negative marking for each incorrect answer. Duration of Paper is 3 hrs. The medium of
question paper shall be mainly in English and Hindi language.
The candidates must have completed 17 years and he/she should not be completed 25 years, the year in
which he/she appears for JEE (Main).
About JEE (Main)
The States of Gujarat, Maharashtra, Madhya Pradesh, Nagaland and Odisha have joined JEE (Main) system.
Therefore, the candidates seeking admission to the institutions in these states are also advised to fill in the JEE
(Main) - 2015 application form online through jeemain.nic.in.
Admission for Undergraduate Engineering Programs at NITs, IIITs, Other Centrally Funded Technical Institutions
(CFTIs), Institutions funded by participating State Governments, and other Institutions shall include the performance
in the class 12/equivalent qualifying Examination and in the Joint Entrance Examination, JEE (Main).
Candidates, whose result of Class 12th /equivalent qualifying examination is not available by 25th June, 2015 will not
be considered for allotment of All India Ranking of JEE (Main) - 2015. Therefore, the candidate is advised not to
attempt JEE (Main) - 2015.
The students aiming to get into NITs, IIITs etc. need not appear for the JEE (Advanced) Test. They should only focus
on XII Boards and JEE (Main) Test.

Eligibility Criteria
The following criteria shall be followed to appear in JEE (Main) 2015
1. Date of Birth - General Category candidates, only whose date of birth falls on or after 01
October, 1990 is eligible. For the candidates belonging to Scheduled Caste (SC) / Scheduled
Tribe (ST) / Persons with Disabilities (PwD) there is a relaxation of 5 years in the upper age i.e.
who are born on or after October 01, 1985 are eligible.
2. Year of Passing Qualifying Examination - Only those candidates who have passed their Class
12th exam or any equivalent qualifying exam in 2013 or 2014. Or those who are appearing in
their Class 12th Exam or any other equivalent qualifying examination in 2015 are eligible to
appear in JEE (Main) - 2015.
3. Number of Subjects in the Qualifying Examination - Candidates must have taken at least five

In order to appear in JEE (Main) 2015, the candidates are required to apply online only as per the procedure.

year, the entire application process has turned online, including uploading of photograph, signature and payment of

1. Nationality-The applicant for admission should be a Resident / Non Resident Indian National
2. Age Limit-Candidates, whose dates of birth fall on or after 1st July 1993 are eligible to apply
for VITEEE-2015. The date of birth as recorded in the High School / SSC / X Certificate /Birth
proof certificate will be considered authentic.
3. Qualifying Examination- Candidates appearing for the VITEEE-2015 should have either
completed or shall be appearing in 2015, in any one of the following qualifying examinations:
1. The final examination of the (10+2) system of Higher Secondary Examination
conducted by the State Board; Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE, New
Delhi); The Council for Indian School Certificate Examination (ISCE, New Delhi).
2. Intermediate or Two-year Pre-University Examination conducted by a recognized
Board/ University.

BITSAT is a Computer based online test for Admission to Integrated First Degree Programmes of BITS
Pilani Campuses in Pilani, Goa and Hyderabad.
Candidate who have passed 12th Examination in the year of entrance exams or previous year.
Computer based Online Test will be held between 14th May and 1st June.
A candidate can apply online only once for BITSAT.
About (BITS)-Pilani
The Birla Institute of Technology and Science (BITS) Pilani is an all India Institution declared as Deemed to be
University under Section 3 of the UGC Act. This is also called BITSAT, which is a Computer based online test for
Admission to Integrated First Degree Programs of BITS Pilani Campuses in Pilani, Goa and Hyderabad. ‘Computer
Based Online test’ means the candidate sits in front of a computer and the questions are presented on the computer
monitor and the candidate answers the questions on the computer through the use of keyboard or mouse. Each
computer is connected to a server, which prepares the question set and delivers it to the candidate on the computer.
This is unlike the traditional paper-pencil based test. This test will be referred to as ‘BITS Admission Test–2015’ or
BITSAT-2015.

1. Academic Qualification: For admission to any of the Integrated First Degree Programs of BITS,
the candidate should have passed their 12th examination of (10+2) system from a recognised
Central or State Board or its equivalent with Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics.
2. Subject in the Qualifying Exams : Further, the candidate should have obtained a minimum of
75% aggregate marks in Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics in class 12th examination, at
least 60% marks in each of the subjects Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics and adequate
proficiency in English.
3. BITS Merit : However, admissions will be made only on his/her merit based on the score
obtained in BITSAT-2015.
4. Only Students who are appearing for class 12th examination in 2015 or who have passed the
class 12th examination in 2013 are eligible to appear for BITSAT-2015.

Note: There is no time limit for individual parts of the test. The candidate can go back and change any of his/her
answers among the 150 questions. While the candidate skips a question, the computer will not allow the candidate to
choose more than one option as correct answer. If a candidate answers all the 150 questions (without skipping any
question), the candidate will have an option of attempting 12 (twelve) extra questions, if there is still time left. These
extra questions will be from Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics only; four questions from each part. Further, once
the candidate has opted for extra questions, he cannot go back for correction of any of the earlier answered 150
questions. The questions are so designed that a good student will be able to answer 150 questions in 180
minutes. The extra questions will give a chance to highly meritorious candidates to score higher. However,
candidates should keep in mind the fact that there is negative marking for wrong answers. Candidates should bring
a pen for the purpose of rough work, signing etc. Blank sheets for rough work will be provided, if required.

Most Important Point:
A candidate can apply online only once for BITSAT. However, if a candidate discovers any mistake in the form
submitted by him, he can apply online second time and send a letter to admission office BITS, Pilani mentioning the
earlier application number which will be cancelled. In such cases, the second application has to be accompanied by a
fresh application fee.
Those who register for the test and reserve test dates have to download the ‘Hall ticket’, along with instructions, from

Academic Qualification: For all Undergraduate Programs, candidate must pass in Class 12th of
(10+2) pattern of CBSE.
Subjects (Aggregate): Minimum aggregate of 55% marks in Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics
provided the candidate has passed in each subject separately. Candidate must additionally have
passed English as a subject of study (core/elective/functional) in the qualifying examination.
