Erasmian European Youth Parliament 24 February 2015 EEYP TIMES EEYP DAVOS 2015 “I like sushi!” Thank God for Puberty Older pictures of some of the Swiss have surfaced. They speak for themselves. Committees in action, part deux Today we focused on the playful a t m o s p h e r e i n He a l t h y Banking, who are tr ying to revolutionise the banking system in the European Union towards a more sustainable financial structure. The laid-back and friendly ambience dominant in the committee seemed to be one o f t h e ke y f a c t o r s t h a t determined their quick progress. We s a t d o w n w i t h E r i c Laldjising, the co-chair who gave us a sneak peek into the development of their resolution and more. 1 Erasmian European Youth Parliament 24 February 2015 Misadventures in the land of cross-country During the afternoon, the teachers went for an extraordinary activity. Could you describe your topic in one sentence? Trying to create a sustainable and healthier banking system in the EU, basically. How is the general atmosphere of your committee? Do you feel like your delegates have bonded? A premiere for most of them, they had the chance to go cross-country skiing. In the beginning everyone seemed to be quite skeptical about the situation they found themselves in, and most of all, those scary weird things on their feet called skis. However after a few cautious and timid steps, a hearty warmup and some explanations conducted by the local physics teacher, they slowly started getting used to feeling their skis and even attempted some shy c u r v e s . Everyone was gradually feeling more co m f o r t a b l e with their equipment. This even lead to a pursuit by “the slope p o l i ce ” o f t h e Ir i s h te a c h e r. Surprising or not, the chase was won by the police as the member of the national Irish cross-country team stumbled and fell. Fortunately he wasn’t arrested. I get the feeling that we are a real team, working together towards a common goal. The atmosphere is kind of relaxed, as we laugh around a lot. I believe the team spirit is the main reason why we are always on schedule with everything. Are you satisfied with everyone’s participation in the topic? Everyone is really involved, they do their best to participate and give their input to the matter at hand. However, because of the English language barrier, some delegates find it hard to express their ideas at times. What would be the first thing you did if you won a million dollars? I would buy Luka and then probably go to the casino. If you could have any superpower, what would it be? Seeing through girls’ clothes, definitely. Imagine you’re on a deserted island and you only have the chance to take three items with you. Well, I’d take a Playboy magazine, a bottle of rum and a bucket of KFC hot wings. 2 Erasmian European Youth Parliament Programme Wednesday February 25 7:30-8:30: Breakfast -> SAMD Canteen 8:30-10:00: Committee Work, Finish resolutions 24 February 2015 Since Eric does not (yet) have a million dollars and Luka Vadachkoriya is still a free tuna, he volunteered for the next interview. Reading people’s minds so that I can finally understand women. (The editorial staff Sammy absolutely agrees with this one) He also kindly requested that we insert his favourite joke, so here it goes: You know why I hate Russian dolls? Cause they’re so full of themselves. :) Next stop along the way was the committee on One Health, which was busy discussing the dangers of factor y farming and coming up with various solutions, debating towards introducing therapeutic 3 Erasmian European Youth Parliament Sponsored by: 24 February 2015 bacteriophages as an alternative to antibiotics. Chairperson Nicola Pohly offered an insight into their work so far: Could you please describe your topic briefly? It’s about the creation of a financial bonus with the legalisation of weed to generate subsidies for normal farms to prevent the disadvantages of factory farms, like antibiotics immunity. What’s the atmosphere in your committee like so far? All in all it really is a fun atmosphere and the motivation is very high. The fact that we can discuss seriously on such an off-the-wall topic amazed me. But there are still some people who I would like to participate a little more, both in quality and in quantity. It’s a shame because during the icebreaking games ever yone was absolutely talkative and open. What would you do if you received a million dollars? Buy sushi for Ashay.. If you were to have any superpower, which would that be: I would like to be as fast as Flash so that I can wake up one second before the lesson starts and still arrive on time. Or I could even look what the others wrote during a test without being caught. Three things ( or people ) to take on a deserted island 4 Erasmian European Youth Parliament 24 February 2015 Berend ( so the rumours are true ), lifetime supply of beer and match boxes. Request of the journalists: Please feel free to approach and provide us with any gossip and rumours you have picked up. Also if you would like to have a picture published in the newspaper, come talk to us. We are happy to do so! Sonny de Jong also offered to be inter viewed as a representative of the same committee. Describe your topic in as few words as possible By legalising weed our committee will prevent drug resistance which is a negative effect of factory farming How interested are you in the direction you’re going? I think the topic is quite difficult. It motivated me to learn about the three parts of One Health and I’m very interested by what I’ve discovered. Is there anything you would like to change, in general? I think we should have all done more research beforehand, so we could have sort of discovered the topic in advance. What would you do with a million dollars? Hide it. Three things to take with you on a deserted island? Pizza margherita, a piano and the great resolution of One Health. 5 Erasmian European Youth Parliament 24 February 2015 Meet the Boss The big night has come, the night when resolutions are either validated or destroyed by renowned professionals who analyse the work of the delegates and give honest and informed feedback. The committees have exposed their ideas to someone from the outside world for the very first time, and the constructive criticism came as either an enormous pat on the back, an opportunity to fill in whatever gaps the resolution might have had or a sign of alarm to make them reconsider the decisions they’ve taken so far. All in all, the evening was a valuable lesson, as the delegates had the chance to discuss with experts in the fields they are interesting in. The meetings culminated with Ashay Sodha reconfirming his position as a president above all, as even his father requested his assistance in matters of finance. Juicy gossip of the day: Ladies, Jan van Ditzhuyzen wore a suit last night. Just leaving this here. Casper Hamminga and Alicia Wintruff seem to have some dangerous liaisons of sorts. An anonymous tip suggested that we take a quick look on her Facebook page. Suspicious! Another anonymous tip puts the spotlight on Carola Bovi and Alexander Jonas. Healthy Banking? More like Healthy flirting. ;) ;) ;) 6 Erasmian European Youth Parliament 24 February 2015 Picture of the day Nikola Columby, serving his punishment of public humiliation for being a table destroyer.
