We have been committed to teaching and preaching Jesus Christ to children from childcare to high school graduation. One of our trademarks has been “flexibility.” We have moved, combined schools, consolidated campuses, changed names and finally unified under one district name, but we have always been willing to follow God’s direction as we move towards new horizons. Once again Rainier Christian is looking to do more than just survive. Survival has the idea of escaping danger and even death. We tend to picture somebody holding on, barely pulling through something, or outliving something or someone. But we want more! Our vision goes well beyond clinging for dear life. tuition. Please help us to reach beyond our little community to family and friends that you know who love the Lord and have a passion for children learning about Jesus Christ through Christian education. Please prayerfully consider joining our Thrive Campaign through our Auction by volunteering, attending, or making a financial contribution. Please check with Patty Mays at [email protected] for details. We are asking that you share the auction and this amazing opportunity with others in order to make an impact in the life of a child that will last for eternity. For more information about Rainier Christian Schools, please visit our website at www.rainiercsd.org, our YouTube Channel or enjoy our daily stories on our Facebook page. Our goal is to thrive. When you think of something thriving you might picture a garden or a flower. A flower flourishes and blooms into something spectacular. Our desire is to develop well and to vigorously prosper. We want to be like a tree firmly planted by streams of water which will yield its fruit in season. Our first goal is to survive all our 2015-2016 financial obligations, and to go beyond by thriving towards a bigger and better RCS. Our vision of completing a Kindergarten to High School campus will require significant capital as we will need to build or buy up to 12 new classrooms which will require $300,000. As part of the Rainier Christian family we understand that you have already been a faithful supporter and/or a current parent paying annual April 25, 2015 – Kent Commons Doors open at 5:00 PM - Purchase Tickets 3 FROM THE DESK OF THE SUPERINTENDENT, TONY JAIME RCS Mission To educate and develop the whole person for the glory of God RCS Vision …a place of excellence, that produces students of excellence, who serve God with excellence. Administrative Office PO Box 58249 16707 174th Ave SE Renton, WA 98058 Phone 425-255-7273 FAX 425-255-6101 www.RainierCSD.org This has been the greatest year ever because we’ve faced our trials and we are proving our character and endurance by pressing onward. We have kept the faith and we are seeing the fruit of our labor in the lives of our students. We have the privilege of serving the Lord by blessing 600 children and their families every day. Does it get any better than this? As we are actively engaged in our 400 Point Impact Plan, our primary goal this year has been to stabilize rather than innovate. The technical definition of innovation is to make drastic change in a short period of time yielding a dramatic turnaround, much like a “get rich quick scheme.” My goal is to stabilize the district by making several small steps that will produce giant leaps. Our concepts come from several different training beliefs and philosophies used in churches, businesses, sports programs, military, etc. But the proper term for our strategy is KAIZEN, a Japanese term referring to the practice of continual, continuous improvement – everyone involved in making small changes for big results. “A journey of a thousand miles must begin with the first steps.” This is why one of our key verses this year is Philippians 3:14 which states, “I press on toward the goal to win the prize for which God has called me heavenward in Christ Jesus.” We are in a marathon race, not a sprint! We are running one step, one mile at a time. So another way to describe this process is DO BETTER! It has been my desire to bring out the best in our teachers on a daily basis in the classroom. Our teachers’ personal ideas, assessments, giftedness, uniqueness, and passions have been tapped into throughout the year. Keep in mind we are not looking for massive leaps, we are looking for baby steps. This is the first year of our journey, doing things better than they’ve been done before. We started our KAIZEN approach this summer with the introduction of our OTA’s, or Official Teacher Training Activities. Each Friday inspirational, educational, motivational, fun and spiritual video clips have been sent and we have worked on homework assignments to make each classroom more dynamic as we impact each and every student. A major focus of our OTA’s has been improvement in our classroom culture. We know that passion is contagious and it’s exciting to see our children respond to our teachers’ efforts. Our primary goal through our FISH Philosophy is to help the students like to learn by making learning FUN! We have been spending the past 34 Fridays in our OTA training so that our students enjoy the learning process. The “Fundamental” academic goal in The Mustang Way is to create an academic culture where students love the process of learning, they enjoy going to school, they compete and are rewarded through their academic achievements. We are not finished. We are just getting started! Remember our small steps will produce big results. Thank you for your sacred trust as we begin to look forward to next year as we continue this KAIZEN journey with you. Please help us to project and budget for the 2015-2016 school year by enrolling early and sharing The Mustang Way with your friends. 4 Don Garnand wears many hats around the Middle School Campus. He is the Athletic Director, Middle School English and Algebra Teacher as well as the Lead Middle School Teacher. Don serves with enthusiasm, grace and a smile every day. He knows the students and seeks to help all those that need it. He was integral in the smooth transition of the middle school campus last summer. 5 "We proclaim Him, admonishing every man and teaching every man with all wisdom, so that we may present every man complete in Christ. For this purpose also I labor, striving according to His power, which mightily works within me." - Col 1:28-29 This passage often comes to mind when I think about our mission to "Educate and develop the whole person for the glory of God.” What a provision and blessing to be a part of school that has this scriptural aim as its foundation! This was, again, underscored to me at our Open House last week. The staff stood and shared their heart and passion to carry this out, and I am grateful for the opportunity to co-labor with them. Your students are in great hands! As an awkward prepare for their future. Rainier Christian High School tone fell upon the crowd and everybody became painfully self-conscious of their tone and pitch, the worship team continued to praise our great God. One student, who was standing by a silenced keyboard looked for a solution to the issue and quickly checked everybody’s cords and hook-ups. Without finding a solution there, he glanced in the corner of the stage and found a small, unused piano. Quickly walking over to it, he picked up skillfully in the middle of the song. This was a tremendous encouragement to me. ~ RCS Teacher Justin Evans, Principal (pictured) Rachel Rodriguez, Administrative Assistant Tami Rosin, Registrar, Counselor 26201 180th Ave SE Covington, WA 98042 Phone: 253-735-1413 Fax: 253-887-8234 RCHS Website All too often we get deterred by challenges and problems, but this young worshipper was focused on answers and solutions and most importantly, they were focused on worship. A song has never sounded so sweet. As you consider your plans for next year, and as we continue our enrollment campaign, I encourage you to call me, or set up a time to discuss any specific questions you may have about the 2015-16 school year. I would welcome the chance to talk. 6 Spring sports are just around the corner and the Mustangs are excited to return with Softball to the High School program. One of those ways is to be friendly to everyone and not be exclusive. This was evident recently as they blessed one another by sending Jamba Juice Grams to people other than just their close friends. A great time to see the students exhibit being friendly to everyone is at lunchtime. They all sit around and talk amongst one anotherleaving no one out of the group. 8 Buddies UPCOMING EVENTS for MVE • • • • • • • • • • • Kindergarteners wrote stories about a snowman and shared them with their Fourth Grade buddies. 2/27 Missions Month Ends 3/2 Superintendent Meeting @ KVE 3/3 Grand Prize Drawing/Enrollment 3/13 PI Night 3/16 In Service/No School 3/17-20 Spirit Week 3/20 RCS Math Olympics 3/23 RCS Music Festival 3/27 3rd Quarter Ends 4/2 Report Cards/Parent Conferences 4/3-10 Easter Break Detailed Calendar Night at the Museum Featuring the Fifth Grade presentation of AMERICA (click to watch video) MVE Art Show February is mission’s month at the MVE campus. The students are all excited and looking for ways they can raise funds for this cause. One of out teachers, Ms. Smith, knows the director of the ministry and has been privileged to visit them. Mr. Steve Wescott works with a similar orphanage in Kenya. He shared at one of our chapels about how great a need there is for these ministries throughout many of the countries in Africa. He walked from the Space Needle in Seattle to Times Square in New York to raise awareness and funds to help these children have a home.
