Pittsburgh Steelers Mock Draft 2015 2015 Mock Draft Rounds 1 - 7. Extra Picks at #4 and #6. Updated 02/24/2015. Most mock drafts have the Steelers picking a cornerback at number one. It is not going to happen. This is not the steeler way. Big and fast athletic players are harder to find. Almost every college football team has at least one stud defensive back. Big maulers are more rare. Keith Butler will rebuild the defense starting with the front five. With a strong pass rush, you can have a winning team with average defensive backs. This is the Blitzburg way. Those draft experts don't know the Steelers, and got it wrong. Round 1. Malcom Brown DE/NT, Texas. 6'3" 320 Pounds. Video Of the four top defensive linemen available, Malcom Brown is the best fit for the Steelers. He has the fastest first step in football. He can play nose tackle or defensive end. Brown has been a wrecking ball in 2014 stopping the run, and putting pressure on the passer. Very high energy player. Mix the Hulk with the Tasmanian devil, and you get Malcom Brown. Plan Two: Round one is always about getting a splash player. Pick OLB Shane Ray from Missouri or OLB Dante Fowler, Jr. from Florida if one falls to #22. Landon Collins from Alabama is the best strong safety in the draft. At 6'.0" and 222 pounds, Collins can put the hurt on anyone in his zone. OLB Alvin "Bud" Dupree of Kentucky would be another great choice. Alvin Dupree's size and athletic skills remind me of Jadeveon Clowney from the 2014 draft. After the amazing Scouting Combine performance, Dupree could be a top 12 pick. Round 2. Nate Orchard OLB, Utah. 6'4" 255 Pounds. Video There are about 6 other outside linebackers ranked higher on the boards, so hopefully Orchard will be there at #56. Nate Orchard is a good fit for the Steelers. The Steelers need Nate Orchard. He was one of the best pass rushers in the nation with 19 sacks. Nate smoked the best offensive tackles from Oregon, USC, and UCLA. He may need some work with pass coverage, but this is what coaches are for. Nate has so much upside and potential to be a superstar. Nate Orchard could be gone by the the time the Steelers pick. Good alternates are: OLB Hau'oli Kikaha from Washington with 19 sacks and 25 tackles for a loss in 2014. Hau'oli Kikaha could be James Harrison version two. At 6'3" tall and 260 pounds, Markus Golden from Missouri could be our mauler linebacker. We have not had a mauler since Woodly left. OLB/DE Preston Smith from Mississippi State is 6'5" tall and 270 pounds of pure mean. Smith has enough SEC best player awards to fill a bookcase. OLB/DE Owamagbe Odighizuwa from UCLA is the cut muscle-man of the group. Have Joey Porter teach him some Kung-Fu and have a champion. One of these guys should be available in round two. Round 3. Marcus Hardison DT/DE, Arizona St. 6'4" 311 Pounds. Video Hardison is first round talent flying under the radar. He is as quick and athletic as most linebackers. A rare 300+ pound guy with 4.7 speed! Very high motor. I have never seen a 300 pound lineman move like this! See the video. The numbers don't lie. Marcus Hardison had more sacks in 2014 than #1 ranked Leonard Williams or #2 ranked Danny Shelton. His tackles for loss beats Leonard Williams numbers too. I would play Marcus as a defensive end in rotation with Tuitt and Hayward. Second choices would be DT/DE Xavier Williams from Northern Iowa, DE Henry Anderson from Stanford, DT/DE Louis Trinca-Pasat from Iowa, and DT/DE Xavier Cooper from Washington State. These players are real studs and can bring the heat. Pittsburgh Steelers Mock Draft 2015 Round 4. Doran Grant, CB. Ohio State. 5'11" 193 Pounds. Doran Grant was one of the superstars in the championship game against Oregon. Getting the best defensive back from the best team in college football is a no brainer. Senquez Golson from Ole Miss is a scrappy little guy we could pick here. Senquez Golson was one of the top corners in the nation with 10 interceptions. Another good pick is Josh Shaw from USC. Josh was a star in the Senior Bowl game. Other top options in round 4 are Kevin White from TCU, Jacoby Glenn from Central Florida , Nick Marshall (was a QB) from Auburn, Eric Rowe from Utah, and Ifo Ekpre-Olomu from Oregon. One of these eight corners will be available in the 4th round. We will get a good cornerback this time! Good class of defensive backs this year. Safety Kurtis Drummond from Michigan State, or safety Adrian Amos from Penn State would be awesome choices here too. If any of these guys are still available in the 6th round, we should get another defensive back instead of receiver. Round 4. Karlos Williams RB Florida St.. 6'1" 225 Pounds Video Karlos Williams has good size with 4.45 speed. He can also play the slot. Karlos Williams had 29 catches last year! Second choices: Kenny Hilliard from LSU is a strong 232 pound downhill runner and would complement Le'Veon Bell very well. Kenny Hilliard would be awesome in short yardage situations. Another bruiser back off the radar is Cameron Stingily from Northern Illinois. Stingily is 6'1" tall and 240 lbs. He runs over defenders. They called him the human battering ram. Cameron Stingily can really move with 4.5 speed! See Video. Of course, if David Johnson from Northern Iowa falls to us at #4, grab him first. One of these four players should be available. Round 5. Sean Hickey OT, Syracuse. 6'6" 308 Pounds Video Sean Hickey is first round talent that is flying under the radar! We need a strong right tackle with fast feet to stop the outside rush. Sean Hickey is superman strong! Not a fat guy either, as he is built like the Hulk! Hopefully Sean Hickey wil still be available in the 5th round. If not, pick the next best (fast) offensive tackle available and let coach Munchak work on them. Offensive tackles Jake Fisher from Oregon, Eric Lefeld from Cincinnati, and Mitch Morse from Missouri come to mind. Morse is a very athletic SEC stud! OT Donovan Smith from Penn State would be the real prize if still available. Smith has quick feet and can run an 40 in 5.12. Amazing for a guy 6'6" tall and 341 pounds! 6'7" tight end Jesse James from Penn State would be a good pick too. Best tight end ever at Penn State. What a name! After the awesome Scouting Combine performance, James could be gone by round 3. Pittsburgh Steelers Mock Draft 2015 Round 6. Jeff Luc OLB/ILB, Cincinnati. 6'1" 256 lbs. Video Luc was one of the reason teams hated to play Cincinnati. He was impossible to block! Luc had 134 tackles last season plus 6 fumbles. Jeff Luc was a 5 star recruit coming out of high school and the #1 ranked linebacker in the nation. He is an athletic monster that can run a 4.54 40! He was recruited by Flordia State, then ended up playing for Cincinnati. Jeff Luc is 2nd round talent flying under the radar. The scouts and media have pretty much ignored him. Good for the Steelers! Option 2: OLB Maurice Falls from East Carolina. Falls is 6'3" tall and 247 pounds. I like this guy because he is a rare super athlete. Maurice Falls has been clocked 4.47 in the 40, has a 36" vertical, and can bench press 425 pounds. Coaches would love to mold him into the ultimate destructive weapon. Option 3: OLB Andrew Hudson Washington. 6'3" 250 lbs. Andrew Hudson had 12.5 sacks playing for the best defense in the PAC-12. High motor guy that plays through the whistle. Most times he chased the QB into other Washington players arms. No stats for that effort. Option 4: OLB Kyle Emanuel form North Dakota State is a stud at 6'3" and 255 Pounds. Kyle Emanuel was given the Buck Buchanan Award for the best defensive player. Kyle leads the nation in sacks last year with 19.5. This is 6.5 more sacks than Vic Beasley! He is a tackle monster in the run game. Kyle holds the record for 32 tackles for a loss in 2014. Wow! See Video. Round 6. Antwan Goodley WR, Baylor. 5'11" 220 lbs. With hands like glue, Antwan Goodley never drops a pass . Goodley reminds me of Hines Ward in his prime. In the open field he runs like a running back putting hurt on defenders. Antwan Goodley would be the perfect slot receiver as he can block too. Other options: WR Jordan Taylor from Rice is 6'5" tall with 4.5 speed. it would be like throwing to a NBA forward. Jordan Taylor would be an end-zone weapon for sure. WR Titus Davis from Central Michigan is from the same school as Antonio Brown. Titus Davis had 13 TDs and 980 yards in 2014. Davis was selected first team in the MAC conference. Can Central Michigan give us another 6th round diamond? Note: We already have three great receivers, plus a few on the squad. A wise pick here may be another defensive back. Pittsburgh Steelers Mock Draft 2015 Round 7. Connor Halliday QB, Wash.St. 6'4" 205 Pounds See This! Talk about flying under the radar! Connor Halliday was the best quarterback in college football until he broke his leg last year. He had one game where he passed for 734 yards and holds the NCAA record. He finished the season with an 145 QB rating! His 2014 numbers look like big Ben's. Halliday has a strong arm with 3,873 yards, 32 TDs, 11 INTs, and 67.3% completed passes. This was all in only nine games! It would be worth it to draft this guy and put him in rehab. I hear he was invited to the scouting combine. Connor Halliday could be our QB of the future. Jameis Winston and Marcus Mariota have nothing over this guy; except they can walk without crutches. Connor Halliday is not listed on most draft boards at all. Another QB I like is Hutson Mason from Georgia. Mason just started hitting his stride his senior season. A lot of upside picking him. Who knows; he could be the next Aaron Rogers. High Value UDFA List. - Donald Celiscar CB, Western Michigan. 5'11" 197 lbs. Best pass defender in NCAA with 21 PD. - Terrell Hartsfield OLB/DE, Cincinnati. 6'3" 248 lbs. First team All-AAC and mean as a badger. - Terry Williams NT, East Carolina. 6'1" 353 lbs. This guy is so fun to watch. Scrapper! - Zack Wagenmann DE/OLB, Montana. 6'3" 250 lbs. Small school, big numbers. 17.5 sacks. - Cody Riggs CB, Notre Dame. 5'9" 186. Started at Both Florida and Notre Dame. - Dechane Durante S, Northern Illinois. 6'2" 193 lbs. 4.5 Speed. He owns the backfield. - Dawon Scott WR/RB, Miami Ohio. 6'1" 202 lbs. 4.43 speed. Superstar on a bad team. - Dean Marlow S, James Madison. 6'2" 206 lbs. 96 tackles in 2014. Wow! - Kristjan Sokoli NT/DE Buffalo. 6.5" 293 lbs. Played nose, but is quick as a defensive end. - Mark Glowinski OG/OT, West Virginia. Nasty, high energy lineman. Go undrafted? - JJ Nelson WR/KR, UAB. 5'11" 160 lbs. All-American NCAA kickoff return champion. 4 TDs. - Christian Ringo DE, Louisiana-Lafayette. 6'1" 298 lbs. 20 TFL. 12 sacks. 45 tackles. High motor! - Zach Vigil ILB/OLB, Utah State. 6'2" 240 lbs. MW defensive player of the year. 154 tackles. - Connor Hamlett, TE, Oregon State. 6'7" 265 lbs. Tall, 4.75 speed, and hands like fly paper. - Taylor Kelly QB, Arizona State. 6'2" 200 lbs. Awesome QB from the #2 team in the PAC-12. *A really cool experiment would be to switch Darrius Heyward-Bey to cornerback. He has six months to learn the position. His height and 4.3 speed would be a big plus. He knows receiver routes. I bet he played some cornerback in high school. He already shows he can tackle on special teams. Give Ike Taylor the job of teaching him. I should get paid $10,000 for this idea. Send check to.... Pittsburgh Steelers Mock Draft 2015
