WE HEAR GOD’S SAVING WORD
OLD TESTAMENT LESSON
Genesis 17:1–7, 15–16
As with Noah, God makes an everlasting covenant with Abraham and
Sarah. God promises this old couple that they will be the ancestors of
nations, though they have no child together. God will miraculously bring
forth new life from Sarah's old womb. The name changes emphasize the
firmness of God's promise.
When Abram was ninety-nine years old, the LORD appeared to Abram,
and said to him, "I am God Almighty; walk before me, and be blameless.

And I will make my covenant between me and you, and will make you

exceedingly numerous." Then Abram fell on his face; and God said to

him, "As for me, this is my covenant with you: You shall be the ancestor

of a multitude of nations. No longer shall your name be Abram, but your

EPISTLE READING
Romans 4:13–25
Paul presents Abraham as the example for how a person comes into a
right relationship with God not through works of the law but through faith.
Though Abraham and Sarah were far too old for bearing children,
Abraham trusted that God would accomplish what God had promised to
accomplish.

For the promise that he would inherit the world did not come to
Abraham or to his descendants through the law but through the

righteousness of faith. If it is the adherents of the law who are to be the
15
heirs, faith is null and the promise is void. For the law brings wrath; but
16
where there is no law, neither is there violation. For this reason it
depends on faith, in order that the promise may rest on grace and be
guaranteed to all his descendants, not only to the adherents of the law
but also to those who share the faith of Abraham (for he is the father of
17
all of us, as it is written, "I have made you the father of many nations")
— in the presence of the God in whom he believed, who gives life to the
18
dead and calls into existence the things that do not exist. Hoping
against hope, he believed that he would become "the father of many
nations," according to what was said, "So numerous shall your
19
descendants be." He did not weaken in faith when he considered his
own body, which was already as good as dead (for he was about a
hundred years old), or when he considered the barrenness of Sarah's
20
womb. No distrust made him waver concerning the promise of God, but
21
he grew strong in his faith as he gave glory to God, being fully
22
convinced that God was able to do what he had promised. Therefore
23
his faith "was reckoned to him as righteousness." Now the words, "it
24
was reckoned to him," were written not for his sake alone, but for ours
also. It will be reckoned to us who believe in him who raised Jesus our
25
Lord from the dead, who was handed over to death for our trespasses
and was raised for our justification.

After Peter confesses his belief that Jesus is the Messiah, Jesus tells his
disciples for the first time what is to come. Peter's response indicates
that he does not yet understand the way of the cross that Jesus will
travel.

Then he began to teach them that the Son of Man must undergo great
suffering, and be rejected by the elders, the chief priests, and the

scribes, and be killed, and after three days rise again. He said all this

quite openly. And Peter took him aside and began to rebuke him. But
turning and looking at his disciples, he rebuked Peter and said, "Get
behind me, Satan! For you are setting your mind not on divine things but

on human things." He called the crowd with his disciples, and said to
them, "If any want to become my followers, let them deny themselves

and take up their cross and follow me. For those who want to save their
life will lose it, and those who lose their life for my sake, and for the sake

of the gospel, will save it. For what will it profit them to gain the whole

world and forfeit their life? Indeed, what can they give in return for their

life? Those who are ashamed of me and of my words in this adulterous
and sinful generation, of them the Son of Man will also be ashamed

GOOD MORNING! We are happy you have joined us today to praise,
listen and be fed by Almighty God. Whoever you are and wherever you
are on your journey of faith, you are welcome here! Holy Communion is
celebrated at each worship service and we invite all believers to receive
the sacrament with us. Children who commune at their home church are
also welcome here; if your child does not commune please bring him/her
to the table for a blessing. The ushers will direct you to the table. Please

ATTENDANCE for this past Sunday was 105.
THE GIVING JUG RECIPIENT for 1st quarter of 2015 (Jan., Feb.,
March) recipient will be ARC of Marshall County. The ARC of Marshall
County is a group of volunteers that provide programs and services for
individuals of all ages with intellectual and developmental disabilities.
The volunteers are an informational resource and sponsor day camps,
summer camps, and weekly recreational programs for adults through out
the year. Service and Mission Committee.
SUNDAY FLOWERS - please sign up to provide flowers for worship in
memory or honor of loved ones or a friend. The beauty of flowers
testifies to God’s presence and love.
LENTEN SOUP SUPPERS – The Lenten Soup Suppers will begin on
Wednesday, February 25 at 6 p.m. Sign-up sheets to bring soup or
other items are on the back counter in the fellowship hall. Please sign up
to participate in this event and join us for a time of fellowship before our
Lenten worship service.
CARING CENTER 110 W. Main. We are in need of men’s clothes,
sweatshirts, jackets, winter coats, shoes and boots. We need children’s
winter clothes, boots, shoes and coats. For the women, we are in need
of winter clothes, coats, shoes and boots. We always take household
items, silverware, dishes, bedding, towels, lamps—all working and clean.
Our items are for those in need, they can come once a month, with limits
to be taken. All are free or free will offering to help pay our rent, lights
and insurance. Donna, Bonnie and I (Karen), volunteer from OSLC.
Please stop in and take a look. Monday & Wednesday 10:00 am to 1:00
pm. PLEASE FEEL FREE TO BRING YOUR ITEMS TO THE CHURCH
AND PUT IN THE PROPER BOX IN THE ENTRY WAY.

Redeemer LWML is selling cookbooks for $15. See flyer on the bulletin
board in the Fellowship Hall.
OUR LENTEN SEASON OFFERINGS (evening worship services and
soup suppers) will be going to support camperships for our youth who
will attend Riverside Lutheran Bible Camp this summer. Last year,
special funds were used to offset some of the camp fees for seven
members of our youth and this year we expect as many as ten! The
bible study and faith sharing experiences that children gain during bible
camp helps to reinforce our Christian education and leave an impression
that will last a lifetime. Please keep this in mind and give generously.
COPIES OF THE HISTORY of our congregation from 1975 to 2000 are
available on the counter on the back of the fellowship room. Reading

this history will help you prepare for our 40 anniversary celebration in
