Troy Gymnastics JV Team Newsletter March 2015 Good luck Level 3 and Silver team competing at Spartan Classic Missing Practice? Please inform your coaches! Additionally, please remember, attendance is taken into consideration in determining competition eligibility. Gymnastics Homework! Parents have recently been asking what their child can do at home to improve. While coaches LOVE to hear that gymnasts are putting in that extra effort, we also want to make sure they are performing skills safely. Even a skill they have done many times can lead to injury if not done with the proper space, equipment and coaching. The following is a list of safe things your child can do at home with your permission and supervision. 1. Handstand shaping laying down 5x10 seconds 2. Standing handstand shaping- feet flat, heels against the wall, arms above head and ribs and belly in, lower back pressed against the wall. 5 x 10 seconds 3. Plank hold 5x10 seconds 4. Splits 3x30 second hold each way 5. cat stretch 3x30 second hold 6. Pike stretch 3x30 second hold 7. Standing shoulder flexibility- palms on wall, bent at the waist head down hold 3x30 seconds 8. Downward dog- push armpits open and heels to the ground 3x30 second hold 9. Basic conditioning- pushups, sit ups, jumping jacks etc. Important Dates March 1st Team Open Gym 2:15-5:15 March 8th Team Open Gym 2:15-5:15 March 13th-15th Girl Power Invitational Saline Sr. 1, Level 2s, Level 3 & Silver March 16th and 17th St. Patrick’s Day celebration wear green March 22nd Congratulations!
