After Sarah and Abraham wait years to have a child, God tests Abraham by asking him to sacrifice his only son, Isaac. To encourage the Roman Christian community, St. Paul reminds his brothers and sisters in Christ that God sacrificed His only Son for the good of all. In St. Mark’s Gospel account of the Transfiguration, God clearly acknowledges Jesus as His Son, and Jesus alludes to His death and Resurrection. Our own sacrifice of the “first fruits” of our time, talent, and treasure to God through the Church, and to our neighbor, are solid acts of Christian charity. Sacrifice brings great peace and joy to those who embrace stewardship as a way of life. PARISH WEEKLY BUDGET In order for our Parish to meet our budget, our Sunday offering needs to equal: $10,000.00 Last Week’s Offering: $8,315.73 Deficit: $1,684.27 Thank you for your continued monetary support of St. Liborius Church. ························································· FISH FRY The St. Liborius Council of the Knights of Columbus will be hosting their next Fish Fry on Friday, March 6, 2015, from 5 to 7 p.m. in the Parish Hall. All you can eat Perch Dinner includes: Fries, Cole Slaw, Veggies, Bread and Butter, and Coffee Donation: Adults: $8.00 / Children (under 10) $4.00 Fish Sandwich $4.00 / Hot Dog $1.00 Desserts will be available. Carry-outs welcome. Bring the family for this special treat! ························································· CHURCH OPEN FOR QUIET REFLECTION The season of Lent calls us to spend some quiet time in prayer and reflection as we journey with Jesus at the cross. Need a time and place? The church will be open on Thursdays beginning March 5th from 11:00 am - Noon. All parishioners are invited to come spend one hour with Our Lord. Page Three Greetings everyone. I received a letter from the Bishop this week sharing his appreciation of a good weekend for him. He expressed his gratitude for so many people greeting him after masses. He also stated his thankfulness for meeting with the Parish Councils and Finance Councils of both parishes. He noted that they are working hard to assist me in guiding the pastoring of two parishes of considerable size. He perceived that we are doing as well as we can be integrating the participation of us all and realizing that the Church is more than only a parish. It is nice to see and hear of parishioners not only attending mass “back and forth” but also sharing in activities sponsored by both parishes. We are going to become a model for other parishes who will be going through the same experiences that we are going through for the very first time. They will need to figure out how to manage themselves and will want to do so as well as we have been doing. They will surely come and try to learn what they will need to do or keep from doing as they venture into what we have been doing. I too would like to join the Bishop in thanking all of you for choosing to grow through this experience as well as you have. I know this experience has really been a lot for us all; so thank you for remaining faithful and for continuing to pray for the success of these parishes and school. May God continue to bless the effort being invested in all of our parish experiences. May God continue to lead, guide, and form us to a healthy vibrant and prayerful expression of the Church in the World. ~ Fr. Dennis Please see page 5 for more pictures of Bishop Conlon’s visit. ························································· DEEPEST SYMPATHY Our condolences to the family and friends of Shirley Orange, Ruth Markoff, Darlene Kraus, and Doreen Lawbaugh. May the souls of all the faithful departed, through the mercy of God, rest in peace. Amen. Page Four Thirty-First Second Sunday Sunday in Ordinary of Lent Time PARISH LENTEN MISSION “How to Become a Joyful Intentional Disciple of Jesus Christ” Presented by Fr. Burke Masters We are all called to be holy disciples of Jesus Christ. The staggering statistics tell us that about 5% of Catholics are intentional disciples of Jesus. How do we become disciples of Jesus? We must pass through five thresholds: 1) Bridge of trust 2) Curiosity 3) Openness 4) Seeking 5) Intentional discipleship Once we truly encounter Jesus and become intentional disciples, there is a drive within us to share the joy of the Gospel with others. We will do things that we never thought possible. This is the path that Pope Francis is leading us on, and I’m convinced that if the Catholic Church purposefully forms holy disciples of Jesus Christ, we will see a huge growth in our Church in the US and around the world! Come to the mission to learn how you can deepen your relationship with Christ, become an intentional disciple, experience the joy of the Gospel and share the Good News with others. You will not regret this time investment. One hour each night – March 15, 16 and 17 starting at 7 p.m. in Church. Light refreshments will be offered following each session. ························································· VOCATIONS LUNCH All young men and women are invited to learn how to discern their calling; be it married, single, or religious life. I look forward to future visits” ~ Bishop Conlon Page Six Second Sunday of Lent DAUGHTERS OF ST. These red blood cells will continue to service the child’s body by transporting oxygen and removing the wastes. The baby is storing iron, calcium, and phosphorus. ·························································· YEAR OF CONSECRATED LIFE Did you Know? The founders of St. Procopius Abbey and Sacred Heart Monastery, following the model of Saints Benedict and Scholastica, were brother and Sister. Both Abbot Nepomuk Jaeger and Mother Nepomuk Jaeger had a famous Czech saint, John Nepomucene, as their patron. ·························································· NEW MEMBERS OF THE CATHOLIC CHURCH We welcome into our Christian Community those recently baptized: Carmine Vincent Guiliani,, child of Frank and Karen, Godchild of Joseph Carra and Franchesca Arias ·························································· DIOCESE OF JOLIET COUNCIL OF CATHOLIC NURSES ANNOUNCES SCHOLARSHIP OPPORTUNITY The Diocese of Joliet Council of Catholic Nurses is pleased to announce the acceptance of applications for the annual $500 nursing education scholarship. Applicants should be enrolled in their senior year of a Baccalaureate nursing program for Fall 2015 and be registered in a Catholic parish in the Joliet Diocese and an active member participating in the Catholic faith. March 1, 2015 Positive devotional practices during Lent can include spiritual reading, mental prayer, daily Mass, family Rosary, weekly confession and listening to a new Lenten CD from Lighthouse Catholic Media. Whether in the car or at home, you can deepen your understanding of the Catholic Faith by listening to inspiring talks given by some of the best Catholic speakers in the world. Four new titles for Lent: This Changes Everything Many religions make contrasting claims about Jesus. Even different Christian denominations can’t decide what they believe. So how do we know what’s true? In this talk, Ken Yasinski gets to the heart of the issue by looking at what Jesus said about Himself and the impact this has on us. Three Days That Changed the World Fr. Perez brings us alongside Jesus in the final hours of His public ministry as He brings to fulfillment the very purpose His Incarnation, the salvation of all mankind. Fr. Perez's detailed insights of those last three days offer a moving look into the loving heart of the Messiah and detailed descriptions of his intense emotional and physical sufferings as they really were. With this knowledge, our hearts can only love him more. Glimpses Along The Way of the Cross In these three beautiful talks, Monsignor James Shea guides us along the Stations of the Cross, teaching us how to better open our hearts to the suffering and loneliness of Jesus on His way to Calvary. Weaving together the insights of keen believers like Fr. Richard Neuhaus, Caryll Houselander, Archbishop Fulton Sheen, and Dr. James Edwards, these powerful meditations take us into the depths of Christ's agony, and back out again into the relief and joy of what His sacrifice means for us. My Beloved Son: Meditations for Lent Fr. Robert Barron offers five sermons on the spiritual discipline we must cultivate in the Lenten season, a discipline centered in Christ. These meditations cover topics such as finding our identity in God, prayer as the key to mission, our thirst for God, how to end our alienation from God, and how to joyfully embrace the way of happiness.
