WellStar’s Patient and Family
Centered Care
PARKING: Free - Cancer Center Parking Deck
REGISTRATION REQUIRED: 470-793-HOPE (4673)
The way care is delivered is as important as the care
itself. The essential elements are dignity, respect and
collaboration with patients and families in the care
and decision-making process.
At WellStar, we understand that people living with
cancer have needs that extend far beyond the medical
aspects of care. That is why we have developed
programs that nurture the mind, body and spirit –
programs that we hope will provide the support that is
so important to those living with cancer.
Please note that there are no fees for any of the
support groups, pre-registration is required. Please
call 470-793-HOPE (6473) to register.
If you see this letter “S” it is an event also appropriate
for patient currently undergoing treatment or for those
who have completed cancer treatment.

NEW CAREGIVER SUPPORT
GROUP
A cancer diagnosis is devastating to both the patient
and their caregivers. A caregiver is anyone who helps
care for their loved one and handles the day to day
needs of the home. Many caregivers experience a high
level of stress, loneliness and/or depression. A support
group specific to caregivers allows for the development
of useful skills and tools to help the caregiver cope,
benefitting both the caregiver and the patient.

THE VALUE OF
SUPPORT GROUPS
Over the past years there has been extensive research on
the positive effects of support groups as a method of
coping with cancer. Support groups can reduce unwanted
loneliness, loss of control and loss of hope. Research has
shown that people who participate in support groups report
significant decrease in depression and a new attitude
toward their illness.
Our support groups encourage the patient, family or
caregivers to attend.
