Who We Are The Kneebilizer Story: Background: My husband of 18 years, John, has been a quadriplegic since 1988. Being 6' 5" tall and in a wheelchair, it can be difficult to find things that fit him well, and his wheelchair is no exception. The Problem: While most wheelchairs may be adjustable, they never really "fit like a glove". The standard lap belt was functional, but I thought that he would be more comfortable and stable if his knees were secured instead of his waist. Enjoying the freedom of the Kneebilizer! The Solution: I started experimenting with different designs and, working with Eric Fasser, we quickly came up with a functional prototype. Attaches in Five Simple Steps: 1: Remove wheelchair cushion and you will expose a line of screws along each side of the wheelchair which holds the frame of the seat. (I would suggest removing a screw on each side by/near the brakes) 2. Slide grommet of Kneebilizer buckle (female end) under Upholstered frame in the hole of removed screw on each side of wheelchair. 3. Tighten screws down on each side. 4. Ensure the buckle release is facing outward. 5. Clip female buckle to the Kneebilizer, adjust to fit your comfort, making certain to adjust evenly on both sides. Once the buckles are secured to each side the wheelchair, you can easily adjust your kneebilizer on both sides. You can release your kneebilizer from either side or remove completely.
