The Center for Court Innovation seeks a Community Benefits Project Coordinator to assist in the
creation of a new initiative in the Near West Side neighborhood of Syracuse that provides opposing
parties with the option of peacemaking, a traditional Native American justice alternative that
incorporates mediation, restorative justice, and community involvement. The Community Benefits
Project Coordinator will work one-on-one to provide project planning, community engagement, and
additional support to participants and community members involved with the Near West Side
Peacemaking Project (NWSPP).
Reporting to the Peacemaking Coordinator and the Upstate Director of the Center for Court Innovation,
responsibilities will include:




Assisting in establishing the peacemaking program in the community, including but not limited
to: establishing a Community Benefits Project Task Force, leading community meetings, working
with local businesses and agencies to identify community benefits projects, and providing dayto-day support to the Peacemaking Coordinator.
Overseeing the community benefits projects, including organizing community volunteers and
program participants.
Engaging in program planning, including scheduling community service projects.
Assisting in project evaluation and grant reporting.
Qualifications:
The ideal candidate will also possess:








Some college education, specifically in public administration, education, recreation, counseling,
social work;
Experience running community programs and/or working with community members to improve
their city/neighborhood;
a high degree of cultural competence and an ability to work with diverse community groups;
a familiarity with the Near Westside neighborhood of Syracuse;
strong organization skills and the ability to complete assigned tasks in a timely manner;
the ability to work independently and competently with community members, court-involved
individuals, and community-based organizations;
excellent communication skills;
a positive attitude toward people whose opinions, cultural traditions, and religious beliefs are
different than the applicant’s.
Position Type: Full-time. Must be available for some evenings and weekends.
