FCB 2015 DJ Bios - Fair City Blues

Introducing your Fair City Blues 2015
DJ Team:
DJ Tracy representing London, England
Tracy grew up listening to Country, Motown, Soul and Rock’n’Roll, so when she got her first taste of Blues she was hooked. She loves to bring the party wherever she goes, and her DJ mission is simple: to get you up and dancing with a smile on your face. Tracy will play anything on the blues spectrum just so long as it is soulful, sassy, gritty or classy. And if you’ve heard one of her late night sets you’ll know why they are legendary!
Tracy impressed us so much last year we could not wait to have her back for 2015. DJ Gill representing the fair city of dublin
Gill, the high priestess of the Dublin blues dance community, is known for her rich knowledge of blues music. A champion of switch dancing and follower creativity, Gill is a dedicated attendee at blues workshops and has previously taught very well-‐received classes in Dublin. Gill’s open-‐minded and thoughtful nature shines through in her DJing, where she skillfully matches the music to the atmosphere in the room. DJ Mister Gin (a.k.a. DJ Stefan)
representing Hanover, Germany
Mr. Gin loves music -‐ and gin -‐ but music he loves more. And he likes all kinds of music, but as with gin, most music is rarely drunk as a single shot. A gin can be mixed with tonic water, served as a Fizz or become a Martini. It's always just a matter of the ingredients and the way they're mixed. Mr. Gin serves you music like your favorite barkeeper: only the best ingredients, mixed and composed in wonderful acoustic cocktails, served with an olive or in a glass rimmed with sugar or salt -‐ depending on what you ordered. Sit back, relax and enjoy your musical Gin & Tonic or jump up and party Martini-‐style. But remember: Don't blame the barkeeper for your hangover from dancing all night long! Cheers! DJ aude representing paris, france
From the enthusiastic and growing blues scene of Paris, Aude has been deejaying almost since the day she started Blues dancing 2.5 years ago. You may have danced to her sets at the weekly and monthly socials in Paris (of course), at Livin' The Blues '14 (Scotland), Blues in Paris '14 (France), The Moose Blues '14 and Snowy Blues (Norway), or The Blues Garden '14 (Sweden) where she returns again in '15! Aude is always looking for intense and interesting songs which she hand-‐
selects across a range of styles from popular Blues and non-‐Blues too. She especially loves mixing it all up into a smooth experience that can push dancers to new horizons, and create stories they share through their dance. DJ Curnán
representing the fair city of Dublin
Growing up on the west coast of Ireland with a hippy father singing along to Lead Belly as he worked the garden, it’s no wonder that Curnán would eventually come to find the blues. It was only in the beginning of 2014 when he moved his rhythm away from the drumming and to the dance floor instead. A passion lit in Dublin’s Fair City, which only grew while traveling around Europe. Festivals he’s attended include Livin, EBI, Recess, Drag the Blues and Blues Delirium in Paris. Now also an organiser in the ever-‐growing Dublin Blues scene, Curnán enjoys sharing his musical taste with anyone who cares to listen and dance. Dj shell representing Edinburgh, Scotland
Shell originally hails from Perth, Australia but now calls Edinburgh her home, where she has been heavily involved in the lindy and blues scenes since she caught the dancing bug. She was one of the founding members of the Edinburgh blues scene, involved in its early formation in 2006. You can regularly find her as a teacher and DJ at Edinburgh’s weekly blues night The Tuesday Spoonful as well as the city’s many swing events. She has DJed her way across the UK and Europe and even the occasional set in Australia and the US, especially wherever you find the blues. Shell has a love for all things swing and blues and is always seeking out new tunes to get you inspired, while never forgetting the songs that are firm dancing favourites. Expect well constructed flowing sets with a variety of music to keep you entertained. Shell has been known to keep tired dancers on the floor way after they promised they would go to bed! www.sholybonoly.co.uk/dj DJ Adamo

representing the Fair City of Dublin
Maria hails from Asturias in Spain. She started dancing in Ireland, where she moved more than two years ago and subsequently joined our (then little) blues scene. Her favourite musical genres range from rock and metal to blues (of course!). Maria’s knowledge is vast and her taste is excellent. The Dublin scene is very lucky to have her as one of the DJs at the weekly socials. Maria loves to dance blues because well… every time she hears the music, she just gotta move her hips! Trust us -‐ her tunes will make you shake it too; and we can’t wait to hear her rock the dance floor. She is our very own Spanish treasure! DJ Annette
representing Heidelberg, Germany
Annette likes her blues to cut straight to the bone with rhythms so compelling that you can't help but dance! This music enthusiast and dance addict hails from blues crazy Heidelberg (Germany) where she DJ's weekly and sets aside several hours every week to search for new tunes that'll move both heart and feet. Her best gems will get even the most exhausted souls back on the dance floor! Annette has spun for almost every major European blues event and is excited to come (back) to Dublin to see the dancers rush to the dance floor and work it! You'll recognize her at the DJ stand; she's the one who can’t help but dance in her seat while queuing the next song. Annette is also part of the Fair City Blues 2015 teaching team! DJ BeardMoose (a.k.a. DJ Sean)
representing Oslo, Norway
Sean is a blues and lindy hop dancer and DJ. He started dancing in the Netherlands and has since moved to Oslo, Norway. He loves blues music and enjoys the opportunity to share his favorite songs with others. His passion for blues is such that when he came to Oslo and found no blues dancing he started a scene there. He has had the privilege of DJing in England, France, Netherlands, Norway, Scotland, Singapore and Sweden. Dj lucas
representing london, england
Lucas has been blues dancing since late 2012 and DJing for nearly as long. He is a regular guest DJ at London social events such as Blues at the Ritzy, Book Club Blues and Blues it or Fuse it. His European engagements have included Espanish Blues Festival in Madrid, European Blues Invasion and Blues Baby Blues in London, Black Water Blues in Slovenia, Feelin’ Blues in Tel Aviv, and Bristol Blues Exchange. He loves to engage and inspire dancers by playing music from all over the blues spectrum as well as delving into other genres including soul, funk, jazz, pop and many different styles of electronic music such as glitch and ambient and IDM, and spends a significant amount of time looking for new artists and tracks to keep things interesting. DJ Jenny
representing New York City, USA
Meet Jenny from the block, in NYC. She is an award winning international DJ and instructor who loves to create a party with music whether with Blues, Swing, Fusion, or just House Party Style incorporating vintage, 'classic' and modern eras. Enjoy the jams as she will be surprising and make you say 'what is that song?!" Get ready to be inspired to create in your next dance. More info at JennySowden.com Jenny is also part of the Fair City Blues 2015 teaching team! DJ Dan
representing Philadelphia, USA
Dan's obsession with music has been life-‐long. He’s taken to DJing because he loves sharing his music, inspiring other dancers, and guiding the energy of a dance. He’s constantly challenging himself to bring new material to his fellow dancers and works hard to offer a variety of music in his sets that stays true to the roots of the dance. He loves all styles of music and his sets tend more toward authentic Jazz and Blues, but he can bring the party if the dance calls for it. More info at danrepsch.com Dan is also part of the Fair City Blues 2015 teaching team! DJ Daire
representing the Fair City of Dublin
Daire has lived, danced, taught and DJed in many different countries including Ireland, Scotland, Holland, Germany, Spain, Norway, USA. But he followed his (half) Irish heart and settled in Dublin where he became one of the blues dance teachers, and we could not imagine the scene without him. A seasoned DJ with events like Livin' the Blues, the Mooche, Moose Blues, Crash!, Ciderhouse Blues, Blues Delerium NYE under his belt, he is always researching and expanding his knowledge of blues music. He is sure to have a few gems up his sleeve so be sure to catch his set! Your fair city blues 2015 DJ coordinator:
DJ Olga
representing the Fair City of Dublin
Originally from Ukraine, she came to Dublin after a brief (13 years) stint in the Real Capital (a.k.a. Cork) where she caught the swing dance bug. Although she always loved blues music, Olga owes her blues dance obsession to the Fair City of Dublin and its wonderful scene. Probably best known for her solo blues and charleston performances, she loves teaching, DJing and choreographing to spread the love of blues music and dance! (There is a blues zombie epidemic joke in there somewhere…)
