GERHARD LAMPRECHT: CHILDREN OF NO IMPORTANCE
WITH LIVE-PIANO PERFORMANCE BY RICHARD SIEDHOFF
We’re delighted to welcome talented German pianist Richard Siedhoff to the Hippodrome for his British debut with
a new score to Gerhard Lamprecht’s “Children of No Importance” as part of the festival.
In this affecting drama German filmmaker Gerhard Lamprecht turns his camera on the growing numbers of
unwanted children in Berlin. Peter and Lotte live with another young girl Frieda under the care of a neglectful
woman and her alcoholic husband. When Lotte becomes ill, the children are separated and dispersed to three very
different homes. In collaboration with Hippodrome Festival of Silent Cinema.

Germany 2013, German with English Subtitles, 72 mins. Dir.: Ramon Zürcher
Siblings Karin and Simon visit their parents and little sister Clara for a family dinner. While the meal is being
prepared, everyday scenes from a seemingly ordinary life are shown: the brother-in-law repairs the washing
machine, the daughter writes a shopping list, the mother prepares the meal, two household pets romp about the flat
– and yet, below the surface, the mood is aggressive.
