Oak Leaves A Newsletter For The Residents of Shady Oaks Vol. 4 . Issue 3 march 2015 Shady Oaks Condominium Association Inc • 1 Shady Oaks Way, Red Bank, NJ 07701-6742 • Phone: (732) 530-8787 MANAGER'S MESSAGE Joan Luciano A friendly reminder that Daylight Savings Time begins on Sunday, March 8th remember to turn your clocks ahead one hour “Spring Ahead” and welcome “Spring” on March 20th. There were also some residents who complained that their parking space was not plowed. I found this to be true as I rode around. The reason is that some of the residents have been less than cooperative and do not have their cars moved. The plows cannot and will not plow the parking space when there is a car on either side of the parking space. There is a very good chance of doing damage to the cars. That’s a liablility for the snow removal company and also for the Association, plus I am sure that no one wants their car damaged. By the time this March issue is out every resident of the tenplex buildings that were scheduled for reroofing and siding this year, have received a letter informing them of this. The letters went out from the Shady Oaks Management Office on February 10th. The contractor hope to begin March 2nd weather permitting. Advertisements and personal notices contained in the Oak Leaves do not necessarily reflect the opinion or position of the Board of Trustees, individual trustees, officers, employees, or agents. 2 Oak Leaves • MARCH 2015 sl-005 Recently Retired From Verizon After 37 Years! At this time I wish to remind the residents that this is a fairly large community with 78 acres. The men in charge of the snow removal should be given a chance to do their job before the complaints come in. It is difficult for the Management Office to keep up with all the complaints when the snow falls on weekends which it has. The office is closed on the weekend. The night that the snow started and the wrong information was given the Meteorologists, Governor Christie declared a state of emergency, and warned motorists to stay off the roads. The crew of snow removal men who were supposed to arrive here early could not, so there was a slow start the first day. I personally saw an improvement after that. They were out the next night at 10:00PM after that snowfall had stopped and shoveled the walks and put down ice melt. This road primarily uses township porperty with the last twenty feet belonging to Shady Oaks. The road exits out onto Shady Oaks Way near Firethorn. The only notification the board of trustees received was a voicemail left at the office late on a Friday night. The work commenced immediately the next day giving the board no chance to react. The township claims they have the right to do what they did because it was an emergency situation. The only other access to the park is by a bridge off West Front Street. The bridge has been deemed structurally unsound and had to be closed immediately. There is an elderly gentlemen who still occupies the farmhouse on the property and he has to be able to get in and out. The township also needs access for emergency and park maintenance vehicles. The township has stated that the park will remain closed to the general public until the bridge is replaced. The board of trustees requested a letter of intent from the township requesting the longevity of the temporary road and the restoration of our property when the bridge was replaced. E-mails and phone calls proved to be mostly fruitless, so we gave the entire matter over to our attorney. Our attorney has been working with the township attorney. The intent here is to get the township to enter into an easement agreement. This agreement would put into writing everything that the board of truestees has requested and protect the right of ownership of our property. Updates will be posted as they come in. Now I would like to talk a little about garbage. It has been brought to my attention that several people are leaving their garbage out for pickup on non-assigned days. The days for garbage pickup are Mondays and Fridays. Nobody should be leaving garbage out on any other day. The garbage sits there allowing the wild animals access, who eat what they want strewing the rest all over the place. It is not fair to our maintenance staff to have to clean up this mess. While we are on the subject of wild animals, please do not feed them. I being an animal lover myself agree that it seems like a nice thing to do to feed the poor deer and such, but what do you think happens after the deer are done? The deer mice come next, entering our homes and setting up residency. What started out as a nice thing to do is now an expensive and oft times difficult task to accomplish. In closing: Please attend your meetings. It’s our community. REMINDER: 2nd INSTALLMENT OF ASSESSMENT DUE DECEMBER 1st, 2015. Many animals are not as active in the cold months, and many birds leave the area and go south. There are other birds that migrate here from the northern reaches to escape the ultra harsh winters there. This gives us the opportunity to photograph different species. Unfortunately they are not as colorful in the winter plumage, but it’s still a nice challenge to find them. I especially like to find the different ducks and shore birds that arrive in winter. They are generally found in the inlets and around the jetties. Some are quite difficult to reach, but others can be found along roadways and parking lots near rivers. A long lens is very helpful. Focus carefully and have the proper exposure. Fast shutter speeds will help keep them sharp if they are moving in the waves. It is not an easy shoot, but can yield great results. That’s it for this month. As always you can email me with any questions at [email protected]. Visit my site at www.KirmsPhotography.com if you’d like to see more of my images. Remember to keep shooting and trying to improve your images, but most importantly, have fun with your camera.
