Matthew 5:9
Peacemaking is the central theme of this year’s Lent-Easter emphasis at St.
Luke’s. Members from the youngest to the oldest are learning what it means to
be a Christian peacemaker at home, school, work, community, church and in
the world.
Pastor Keller has been focusing on this theme during his Sunday worship sermons, and it also has been highlighted as part of Sunday school openings and
Kings Kidz devotions.
Coin boxes are available to take home and return by Easter Day. Funds are
being raised for Ambassadors of Reconciliation (AoR), an international ministry founded to equip Lutherans for living, proclaiming and developing lifestyles of reconciliation. The ministry of reconciliation is given to the local
church and every believer. AoR’s purpose is to inspire and prepare leaders of
Christ’s church around the world to carry out this vocation in more effective
ways.
AoR is an independent, non-profit entity. Their approach is based upon the
Holy Scriptures and the Lutheran Confessions. Services are provided through
two offices: CrossLife Ministries and Reconciliation Ministries.
Under CrossLife, licensed professionals provide gospel-centered counseling to
individuals and small groups. Counseling areas include marriage and family,
grief support, addictions, long-term behavioral patterns and more. Reconciliation Ministries’ conciliators provide consulting, conflict coaching, mediation
arbitration and group reconciliation services. It serves individuals and groups with personal, business or legal disputes.
Through both offices, AoR equip Christians for personal
peacemaking and for church-based reconciliation ministries
through speaking and preaching, seminars and workshops.
Bible studies, books and other resources also are available to
help God’s children proclaim reconciliation in everyday life.
Pastor’s Page
An elderly couple is lying in bed one morning having just awakened from a good night’s sleep. He
takes her hand and she responds, “Don’t touch me!”
“Why not?” he asks.
She answers back, “Because I’m dead.”
The husband says to her, “What on earth are you talking about? We’re both lying here in bed together and talking to one another.”
The wife says, “Not so, I’m definitely dead.”
Her husband insists, “You’re not dead. What in the world makes you think you’re dead?”
His wife answers, “I know I’m dead, because I woke up this morning and nothing hurts.”
(Journal, 1998)
Funny on one hand; but on the other hand, no one needs to lose hope to live without unbearable pain.
We don’t have to die and go to heaven to live without peace. Life is not intended to be lived without peace.
The power of the Holy Spirit will lead us by the grace of Jesus Christ to find a life, to live days without unbearable pain.
Come join me for managing conflict using the biblical study, “Blessed are the Peacemakers,” written
by Ambassadors of Reconciliation, an international ministry that was founded to equip Lutherans and their
churches for living, proclaiming and cultivating lifestyles of reconciliation.
This theme kicked off on Ash Wednesday and continues throughout Lent, including a special service on
Maundy Thursday focusing on Jesus as the model of loving service in the midst of life-threatening conflict.
“Conflict occurs at home, at work, at church, and at play. By dealing with conflict biblically and relying
upon the power that God gives us through His Word, through our baptism, and through the Lord's Supper we
are able to deal with the conflict in a way that glorifies God, serves others, and enables us to grow to be more
like Christ.”---taken from Ambassadors of Reconciliation.
I look forward joining with you and the Lord for worship during the Sundays of Lent.
Yours in Christ,
Pastor Keller

Golden Milestone Ministry
Another member of St. Luke’s is joining the “90 Club” in March. Let’s wish Alvin
Boltz a very Happy Birthday as he turns 90 on March 6!
Born in Cabot on that day in 1925, Alvin is the son of the late George S. and Clara
Louise (Greim) Boltz. Alvin was born at home. He had one brother and one sister.
Alvin went to Winfield Township Consolidated School, graduating from WinfieldClinton Township Consolidated School. He has lived in the Sarver area all of his
life.
Baptized at St. Matthew’s Lutheran Church on April 19, 1925, Alvin was confirmed
there in May 1940. St. Matthew’s was part of a parish including St. Luke’s and St.
Paul’s. Alvin has been a member of St. Luke’s Lutheran Church since 1949 when
the Rev. Donald Fetterly served as pastor. Alvin has served on St. Luke’s church
council, as treasurer and secretary, and on the building committee for Centennial
Hall.
Alvin served with the Army in Japan. He was a precision grinder at Oberg Industries for 30 years, retiring on April 1, 1990.
On June 16, 1948, Alvin married the former Marian E. Schmidt at St. Luke’s. The
couple has been married for 66 years. Alvin said he met Marian at a youth group
Halloween party in 1944. They became engaged in 1946. The youth group was from
St. Luke’s Sunday school classes led by Viola Reinhold and Alberta Bauman.
Alvin and Marian reside at Concordia. They have one son and two daughters. Their
son lives on Hannahstown Road. Their daughters reside in Erie and West Chester,
PA. They also have six grandsons, two granddaughters, two great-grandsons and
one great-granddaughter.
Alvin’s favorite Scripture passage is John 3:16. Favorite hymns include In the Garden and Amazing Grace. Happy Birthday and God’s Blessings Alvin!

Pastor’s report included naming Kelly Weston as

is excited to be able to do this, so please feel free to

A council appreciation dinner (at our own expense)
will be held later in February. It’s a time to build our
bonds of faith and grow in fellowship with one another as well as to share memories and gratitude with
those leaving and those who have recently joined our
ranks.
Council reviewed the dwindling attendance numbers for late service Christmas Eve. We discussed the
trend that most churches have been moving Christmas
Eve services to earlier times. Our own survey results
also indicated members would prefer to attend services earlier, including the late service.
As we move forward in 2015 to meet the needs of
our church family, we hope you will love us, pray for
us, forgive us, and join us in offering guidance, encouragement, and thanksgiving to all who serve the

Benevolence
Welcome to the fourth year of a regular feature in the Angel highlighting the monthly recipients of St. Luke’s Christian Mission benevolence funds. For the past five years, St. Luke’s
has directly given $22,000 in 12 equal shares to mission and outreach ministries ($1,833.33
month). The 2015 list was approved at the annual congregational meeting on January 25th.
The new North American Lutheran Church seminary is the March recipient of St. Luke’s
benevolence funds.
A proposal was approved at the 2013 NALC Convocation to establish a seminary that would
provide for the theological education of future NALC pastors. The Convocation also authorized raising $1 million to fund the seminary. There will be two components of the seminary:
a Seminary Center at Trinity School for Ministry in Ambridge, PA, and Houses of Studies
located within NALC Mission Districts.
Many have pictured it as a hub-and-spokes design — a wheel of sorts. The Houses of Studies will be located at existing seminaries and theological schools providing ready infrastructure and theological libraries. The first House of Studies has been created on-site at GordonConwell Theological Seminary in Charlotte, NC.
