Growing up in the South West of
England, I spent my early years in
Wareham, Dorset before moving
to the Cathedral city of Exeter in
Devon at the age 6. Even in my
earliest memories I have loved
creating, and most of my recent
work has been influenced by and
based on memory.
I tend to see the inter
connectivity with
everything, a need to
be creative, a desire
to communicate, to
observe life and nature
and express their
underlying energies
through my artwork.

I like to express feeling through
landscapes, seascapes; the
disposition of people and
objects within the composition.
With abstracts I like to show
mood through use of colour
and shape. I enjoy being in
‘unregarded’ settings, such as boatyards, dealer’s yards,
scrapyards and abandoned greenhouses.

I am interested in colour,
texture, lacelike spaces,
changing light and shadow, in
both the natural and manmade
environment. I use mixed media
collage to try and recreate
these qualities in my work.
I am drawn to the remote beauty
of the landscape and coast. My
work is an intuitive response to this
environment. Through an exploration
of colour and mark making the work
articulates the mood, atmosphere
and energy of the subject matter and
reflects on the ever changing light
created by the effects of the weather.

recently fine art at the University
of Plymouth. I work with oil and
beeswax on board and canvas to
paint images of jars that contain
small narratives.

My work ranges from
graphic imagery inspired by
the German Expressionists
through to geometric
abstracts, where colours
and shapes are overlaid
to achieve a balanced and
contemplative composition.

Oil paintings and sketches,
inspired by the dynamic
effects of light and
atmosphere. Controlling the
tonal values and capturing the
light effect is the challenge
that motivates me to paint.

Figure studies are in
oils or ink; they’re
about being alive. I
love Masaccio’s earth
reds. The dreaminspired bird motif is
in memory of my son.

A celebration of the coastal
landscape of the South West.
Working mainly in oil, Kath
creates instinctive paintings
inspired by the outdoors.
I paint flowers and birds in
watercolour. My inspiration
comes from this wonderful area
and I create freer works of art
with print, acrylics, mixed media
and silk paintings.
