Chamber Economic Development Announcement March 4, 2015 Frito-Lay Expansion to Create Mega-Facility in Charlotte The Charlotte Chamber announced today that Frito-Lay, Inc., a Fortune 40 company, will make a $74 million dollar investment in its Southwest Charlotte location, transforming the 38-year-old location into a mega-facility. The expansion is expected to create 30 to 35 new jobs with an average salary of $50,000 by 2018. Frito-Lay will also build a 55,000 square foot warehouse adjacent to their 150,000 square foot existing facility. “The proposed investment at the Charlotte facility would upgrade the site to include high-technology equipment that combines its manufacturing operations with on-site distribution,” said John Irwin, vice president of Supply Chain for the Carolinas region. “Charlotte would be the 10th site out of 34 Frito-Lay plants in the U.S. to expand and adopt our new efficient warehouse and distribution system. We look forward to the expansion and opportunities it will bring to our dedicated, hardworking team and this supportive community.” “Frito-Lay is a critical player in the Charlotte region’s manufacturing landscape. The company’s commitment to advance their capabilities not only creates new jobs but enhances the technological innovation of their manufacturing facility,” said Bob Morgan, Charlotte Chamber CEO and president.
