Roof Tile Excellence Award 2015
Design Competition Brief
Message from the CEO of
Roofing Tile Association and Think Brick Australia
Since 2005, the Think Brick Awards have celebrated clay brick design.
In 2013 roof tiles were introduced into the Awards with conceptual design.
Four innovative Australian architects were invited to present a vision and a building
proposal for the future suburban street, which was a key element of that street and
showcased innovation using tiles.
In 2014 the Roof Tile Excellence category was introduced into the awards with
positive response and worthy winners.
The Roof Tile Excellence award rewards architects who use concrete and terracotta
roof tiles in their residential or commercial building designs.
In addition to the $10,000 cash prize for each category, a Grand Prix Prize will be
awarded to the overall best entry across all five categories. The winner will win two
Business Class tickets to Venice Biennale 2016.
I invite you to submit your interpretation of Roofville.

Industry overview
Who is Roofing Tile Association of Australia?
The Roofing Tile Association of Australia is the roof tile industry’s peak organisation,
representing the concerns and interests of members across the country, with a particular
focus on training (including apprenticeships) and occupational health and safety issues.
The RTAA represents more than 90 per cent of the roof tile industry, including all
manufacturers of concrete and terracotta roof tiles - Boral Roofing, Bristile Roofing,
Monier Roofing, Monier Prime Roofing, Harmony Roofing, Alice Roofing - and the vast
majority of distributors and independent roof tilers and installers.
Tiled roofs combine superior durability, colourfastness, strength with a long life. They also
help reduce the intrusion of external noises, provide protection against radiant heat in a
bushfire, have high levels of thermal insulation, and offer more resistance to wind suction
than lightweight sheets.
Those are just some of the reasons why tiled roofs are preferred by more home owners and
builders across Australia.
Australian Roof Tiling Market
The roof is an integral part of any building, and roof tiling celebrates a skilled trade to
execute design
In 2013, the Roofing Services industry is generated revenue totalling $2.65 billion with value
added of $875 million.
