through the many changes that have been made
recently. Explaining the rationale behind the many
improvements that have been made will allow
participants to be in a better place to better
understand and explain to others. Items such as
open rosters, soccer for all, inclusion not exclusion
etc. will be explained. All attendees will leave with
a resource that explains the many components of
grassroots soccer in Ontario
The "FIFA 11+" is a complete warm-up programme
to reduce injuries among male and female football
players aged 14 years and older. Developed by an
international group of experts its effectiveness has
been proven in a scientific study. Teams that
performed the "FIFA 11+" at least twice a week
had 30-50% fewer injured players. This session will
address the theory and research behind the
program.
Is talent born or made? What do we really know
about talent identification. Dr. Colin Higgs'
presentation will look at the current state of
knowledge about talent identification and will
contrast it with the concept of talent development,
as well as describing how this information can be
used in program design and implementation.
Shannon Kelly is the Manager of Public Relations
and Special Events at Canada's Wonderland. She
leads the media, social media, and events efforts
for the largest amusement park in Canada, with a
Facebook following of almost 800,000. Shannon
also teaches an Introduction to Social Media
course part-time at Humber College, and is on the
Board of Directors for Dancers for Cancer,
managing Media and Marketing. Shannon is the
former Social Media Manager at the Toronto Real
Estate Board where she led the digital
and social media efforts for 40,000 TREB members.
A growing number of Clubs are reporting concerns
over how to manage social media use within their
Club from player bullying to appropriate online
postings and blogs. This session will outline current
trends in web use, social media policy
recommendations and appropriate Club practices.
This exciting technical presentation will focus on
the improvements that have been made in the
game both the competition model and in the
practice environment that will allow our young
developing players to be more confident and
comfortable in possession of the soccer ball. The
retreat line will be discussed explaining the many
benefits that this development tool brings to the
young players. Attendees will also be issued with a
copy of the provincial curriculum that will allow
them to use these techniques.
Luis Fernando Paes de Barros a youth coach at
Basileirao side, Santos FC. He will give an
introduction to Futsal and why it has been so
instrumental in the development of so many great
Brazilian footballers.
Vanessa Martinez Lagunas will provide coaches
with a general overview of important physical,
technical, tactical and psychological considerations

FIFA 11+ should be performed, as a standard
warm-up, at the start of each training session at
least twice a week and takes around 20 minutes to
complete. Prior to matches, only the running
exercises (parts 1 and 3) should be performed and
this session will focus on the practical delivery of
each technique.
A Club should make Risk Management a part of its
culture, led by Board decision making and policy
development and delivered by Coaches and
Volunteers in the field. This session will provide
practical tools to achieve a safe and positive Club
environment for the long term.

updates from each of their respective
departments.

Hope Powell will discuss how countries Like
Germany, France, England, some of the Africa
Countries and teams from Asia have developed
their players to complete at the highest level.
This session will be led by concussion professionals
with Holland Bloorview Kids Rehabilitation Hospital
and provide an insight into the causes of
concussions, current research and the details of
base line testing including its uses and relevance to
the youth athlete.
The OSA's Mark Marshall, Bobby Lennox, and
Mirco Schroff. Are available to discuss and debate
any soccer related topics in Ontario
This session will provide attendees with a clear
understanding of the Strategic Planning process
from consensus building to Operational Plans. As
the OSA continues to work closer than ever before
to align its own plan with that of the national body
this session will enable Clubs to consider their role
in a stronger national system.

Hope Powell is an English former international
footballer who was the coach of the England
women's national football team and the Great
Britain women's Olympic football team until
August 2013. The English Football Association (FA)
appointed Powell as England's first-ever full-time
national coach in 1998. She implemented central
contracts for her players that ensured they could
focus on full-time training and playing, without
having to fit it around full-time employment. She
led the team at the 2001, 2005, 2009 and 2013
editions of the UEFA Women's Championship.
After failing to qualify in 2003, she guided England
to the quarter-finals of the FIFA Women's World
Cup in 2007 and 2011.

Hope Powell is an English former international footballer who was the coach of the England women's national

Dr. Colin Higgs
Dr. Colin Higgs is Professor Emeritus in the School of Human Kinetics at Memorial University of Newfoundland,
and member of the Canadian Sport for Life Leadership Team. Dr. Higgs works extensively in developing
countries and has published and presented widely on Long-Term Athlete Development, sport bio mechanics,
and social development through sport. His research interests include bio mechanics of sport for persons with a
disability, theory of classification systems in disability sport and the use of sport as a tool in international
development.
Vanessa
Martinez Lagunas
Vanessa Martínez Lagunas, who is a FIFA Women’s Soccer Instructor, UEFA/DFB Pro License and NSCAA
Premier Diploma holder and former player of the Mexico WNT has previously confirmed her attendance. She
has coaching experience at several levels of the game in Germany, Mexico and the United States in addition
to being a featured clinician at the 2012/13 NSCAA Conventions. She is the current Head Coach at the
University of Manitoba and is only one of 30 Female Pro License holders in the world
Joe Fletcher
In 2007, Joe was placed on the FIFA list of International Officials. Joe’s refereeing experiences include the FIFA
Under 20 tournament in Colombia, the 2012 Olympics Games in London, the 2013 FIFA Club World Cup in
Morocco, the 2014 FIFA World Cup in Brazil, as well as numerous other matches around North/Central
America and the Caribbean.
Carol Anne Chenard
Carol Anne Chenard has been an international referee since 2006. She was one of just 16 referees selected for
the 2011 FIFA Women's World Cup. In addition, Chenard is one of only three Canadian women to be on the
list of FIFA international referees for women's soccer matches. She received her international referee
certification in 2006 and has featured in numerous matches across North America and the world.

Luis Fernando Paes De Barros
Luis Fernando Paes De Barros is a youth coach at Brazilian club Santos FC. He joined the club in 2013 from
A.D.Sao Caetano, where he was the club’s head Strength and conditioning coach. De Barros, who has a
master’s in Physical Education from the University of Sao Paulo, has also previously worked in Futsal with roles
as head coach at clubs in Brazil, Japan and Qatar. He has also lectured on football and Futsal courses, as well as
sports science programs in many universities around the world. He recently presented at the English FA
Coaching Conference in December 2014.
