Livestock Show and Rodeo,

Contest in conjunction with

LIBERTY - Show your support for your school and get behind the wheel of a new Ford
vehicle in the Drive 4UR School
event taking place Sat., March
21, from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. at BJ
Ford. For every test drive taken,
Ford Motor Company will donate $20 to one of four area high
schools – Liberty High School,
Hardin High School, HullDaisetta High School or
Anahuac High School. Simply
come to the BJ Ford showroom
at 3650 Hwy. 90 and indicate
which school you want to take a
test drive for. Individual schools
will have tables set up. The more
people who take a test drive, the
more each school will earn.
This event is sponsored by B.
J. Ford and Ford Motor Company and no purchase is necessary. Drivers must be 18 years of
age or older with a valid drivers
license and auto insurance. Limit
one donation per household. A
maximum of 300 test drives will
be allowed.
TVE Cowboys & Crawfish Cowboy Boil this weekend
Liberty Jubilee coming up March 27-28
LIBERTY - The 30th Annual
Liberty Jubilee, a family-style
fun festival, is set for Fri., March
27, and Sat., March 28, in downtown Liberty. Admission is free.
Often described as one of the
best small town festivals in the
State of Texas, the Liberty Jubilee is held around the historic
downtown area on the fourth
weekend of March each year.
The festival dates back to 1986
when it was designed as part of
the Texas Sesquicentennial Celebration. The original event,
however, was such a success that
the City of Liberty decided to
continue holding it each year.
The festival opens at noon
Fri., March 27, with various food
vendors, arts and crafts vendors
and the Liberty Municipal Library’s Book and Bake Sale. The
popular barbecue cookoff competition gets up and running with
teams setting up Friday afternoon and judging held Saturday.
The carnival also opens Friday at noon and runs until midnight. Armbands can be
purchased for unlimited rides for
$20. The carnival reopens Saturday morning at 9 a.m. and runs
through the close of the festival.
Once again, armbands can be
purchased for $20 allowing for
unlimited rides on Saturday.
The Liberty Jubilee Street
Dance, held between the courthouse and city hall, features live
music. The year, country music
artist and Texas native Tracy
Byrd will perform along with
Liberty County’s own Southern
Breeze Band. The music kicks
offs at 8 p.m. and admission to
the dance is free.
The Friends of the Liberty
Municipal Library will hold their
famous Jubilee Book and Bake
Sale again this year inside the
Humphreys Cultural Center
from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Friday
and 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Saturday.
The Book and Bake Sale is
known far and wide for delicious
baked goods and great books at
rock bottom prices. Tasty
casseroles, beautiful cakes, fresh
home baked bread, a wide variety of cookies, candy, mouthwatering brownies, jelly, and more
will be available for purchase.

LIBERTY - Liberty County
Commissioners met Mon.,
March 2, in special called session and voted to replace the entire Liberty County Housing
Authority Board. Current board
members Ann Richardson,
Jackie Payne, Michael Lillie,
Debra Goudeau, and Durlene
Davis are being replaced.
Each of the four Liberty
County Commissioners was
tasked with naming their selection for a new board member as
well as an alternate. Precinct 1
Commissioner Mike McCarty
nominated Juan Venegas and
named Dennis Beasley as an alternate. Commissioner Precinct
2 Commissioner Greg Arthur
nominated Neil Thornton with
Alan Tidwell as the alternate.
From Cleveland, Eddie Lowery,
commissioner Precinct 3, nominated Mike Penry as his selection with Danny Lee as the
alternate. Leon Wilson, commissioner Precinct 4, nominated
Josephine Perry with Marion
Quiroz as the alternate. To fill
the fifth spot on the board, Liberty County Judge Jay Knight
nominated Eisha Jones and Eliza
Guidry as alternate respectively.
By a unanimous vote, the
nominees were appointed to the
board. If for some reason a nominee cannot serve or chooses not
to serve, then the alternate will
take the nominee’s place.
LIBERTY - On Sat., March
14, TVE will be holding a new
event at the TVE Fairgrounds. The
TVE Cowboy Boil will replace
the familiar Cattleman’s Ball and
will feature crawfish with all the
trimmings. Serving time will be
from 2 p.m. until 7 p.m.
There will be free parking
and free bouncy houses will be
provided for the kids in the arena
during the day. Live music will
be provided during the day by
Brady Hanson with the Crooked
River Band and Fred Lemond
with the Bayou Texas Band. In
the evening, beginning at 7:30
p.m., Jamie Bergeron and his
great Cajun Band will take the
stage. TVE will bring to the
stage for the first time Jeff
Woolsey and the Dancehall Doctors starting at 10 p.m. This great
band will be playing traditional
country music that is perfect for
dancing under the pavilion.
Ticket prices will be from
$25 per person for crawfish only
with a $50 ticket for crawfish
and the concert. There will be a
VIP ticket for $100, which includes crawfish, a catered meal,
the music and dancing as well as
all beverages. Tables for the VIP
experience with seating for eight
people are $800 a table.

TVE office at the TVE Fairgrounds or any TVE director. For

LIBERTY-DAYTON - The
Fri., Feb. 27, filing deadline came
and went with no new candidates
filing during the final week for the
upcoming May 6 election. Key
races in that upcoming election
will include city, school board, and
hospital district. Over in Liberty,
voters will also determine the fate
of a $33.5 million bond proposal.
In the race for Liberty City
Council, incumbents Dianne Huddleston, Libby Simonson and
Dennis Beasley all have no opposition. As for the Liberty School
Board, trustees Bruce Bell (Posi-
tion 1) and Lance Lawrence (Position 2), both filed for new terms
without opposition. Newcomer
Rachel Odell has officially filed as
a candidate for Position 6 on the
Liberty school board. Ron Mayo,
who currently holds that seat, is
not seeking a new term.
In the city of Dayton, voters
will be electing a new mayor. Outgoing Mayor Felix Skarpa has decided not to seek a third term in
office. Skarpa was first elected as
Dayton’s mayor in May 2011 after
