Every day JCI consultants work with health care organizations facing challenging IPC
needs. What does an optimal IPC program look like? What new threats should be on
your radar? How can you train staff to identify and prevent infections? How will you
measure success?
To help organizations strengthen IPC initiatives and develop their in-house expertise,
JCI has created its distinctive Infection Prevention & Control Diploma Program. The
comprehensive curriculum provides students with leading knowledge and skills so they
can serve as IPC specialists in their own organizations, reducing infection risks for
patients and staff and improving performance.
Students learn how to apply evidence-based tools and practices within their
organizations and share practical solutions with their care teams. Program participants
are better equipped to drive proven IPC practices and achieve sustainable results.

How the diploma program works
The integrated curriculum is usually presented in three core modules over nine to
12 months, although different formats can be used based on the client’s preferences.
The curriculum can be modified to address your organization’s needs and the timeline
can be adjusted for religious holidays and other commitments.

For each module, faculty members and participants meet in class for 10 days of
didactic presentations and experiential training. A variety of educational techniques
are employed, including lectures, discussions, case study reviews, interactive group
exercises, and student assignments using an array of IPC tools and methods. Students
then complete several weeks of practical training in selected hospitals where they
are supervised by IPC professionals. In addition to onsite work, JCI faculty present
webinars, preceded by a reading assignment and followed by group discussion.
Individual and group coaching are integral to the program and the participants’ success.

mentoring
The educational experience allows for personalized attention and respects
cultural norms and values. All participants are assigned a JCI mentor to
support ongoing learning. Mentoring sessions are conducted online and offer
guidance and the opportunity to have questions answered by experts. Progress
is monitored and, with successful completion, students receive a diploma or
certificate of completion based upon the client organization’s guidelines.
Selecting your IPC champions
JCI’s Infection Prevention & Control Diploma Program represents an excellent
career-building opportunity for individuals who have been charged with
implementing IPC initiatives within their organizations. Students have a variety
of backgrounds, including physicians, nurses, microbiologists, and ambulatory
care and long term care staff.
Eligibility criteria are established by the client. However, participants should
have work experience in a hospital or health care facility, have current or
anticipated IPC-focused responsibilities, and have a good command of spoken
and written English. Knowledge of basic database software is required. Once
selected, students must participate in classes, complete required readings and
homework, and pass mandatory tests.
