Making Christian Education More Accessible
The Unity Christian School Board and its Finance Committee have recently designed several
ways to make Christian Education affordable to families seeking an education whose perspective
and values match those of the Christian home, regardless of walks of life, make-up or income
levels. Here are several ways to help make private, Christian education more affordable.
1. After School Care
According to the U.S. Census Bureau, American Community Survey, for the years of 2005-2009
the average cost of before and after school care for families in the State of Illinois is $4186. For
all Unity families starting in the 2012/2013 school year, after school care will be a continuation
of their school day at Unity and no additional fees will be assessed. What a huge savings and
blessing to our families.
2. Preschool Dollars = Tuition Reduction
Starting with all families in the 2012/2013 school year, any child starting in Unity’s kindergarten
who has attended Unity Christian Day Care and Preschool can use the monies paid into
Preschool as a tuition reduction for their private, Christian K-12 education. For example: If you
paid $2400 in Preschool fees, you have $2400 for use in tuition reduction. The maximum
amount available each year is $400. So, this family would have 6 years of $400 tuition
reductions available to them!
3. T.R.I.P. (Tuition Reduction Incentive Program)
T.R.I.P. is designed to put money back into your pockets! Continue to do your normal shopping,
simply purchase gift cards through our school and the store rebate goes toward your Unity
tuition. It's a great way to allow your daily shopping, that you are going to do anyway,
contribute to the cost of your education! For more information contact Unity’s T.R.I.P.

4. Tuition Assistance Available
Unity knows that some families need a little extra help in making Christian education a reality
for their family. If financial aid would benefit your family, please stop by the office and request
the appropriate form from Barb Wright. After evaluation we will contact you concerning any
assistance that Unity is able to provide.

BID NUMBERS
Please register for a bid number. The bid number sticker must be on the back of the
program. Please be sure to display your bid number when bidding and at the end of a
successful bid so that the clerks can record your number. All of your purchases will be
charged to this number and entered into the computer in order to give you a detailed
invoice.
The first 50 bid numbers will be entered into our door prize drawing for a chance to win
a door prize.
CASHIER / CHECK OUT – NOT BEFORE 1:00 P.M.
When you are ready to check out, go to the computer stations to receive an invoice with a
total of all of the items you have purchased. Please make sure all the items are correct,
and then make your payment to the cashier. Then take your paid invoice to the check out
areas to receive your items.

AFTER 1:00 p.m.

several budget needs. This is one way to help keep the cost of tuition down. Our H.E.A.R.T. objective
is to increase revenue while getting to know all Unity families on a deeper level.
What Is Scrip?
Scrip is a term that means “substitute money”. When you purchase scrip, you’re purchasing negotiable gift
certificates and prepaid cards that are used just like cash. You can use scrip to purchase everyday
expenses like food, clothing, and other essentials, and with every purchase, you earn revenue to reduce
your tuition.
How scrip generates revenue for you
The Great Lakes Scrip Center acts on behalf of our school to purchase large amounts of scrip from grocery
stores, department stores, and other retailers. Because the scrip is purchased with cash up front, the
participating retailers offer a substantial discount. Our school buys the scrip from Great Lakes Scrip Center
at a discount, and re-sells the certificates to you for full face value. The discount - from one to twenty
percent or more – is your tuition reduction.
Scrip is "shopping cart fundraising”
Scrip is a popular fundraiser because families don’t have to sell anything. Organization members produce
revenue by making regular household purchases they would make anyway. Groceries, clothing, toys, gifts,
even gasoline can be purchased with scrip.
