The Gospel for this Sunday (RCIA
Masses) is that of the man born
blind, who is healed by Jesus. He is
healed, not only physically, but
deep in his soul so that he has the
faith to acknowledge Jesus. In the
face of persistent rejection, he trusts
in Jesus because of his personal
experience of being healed by him.
We could say of the faith of this
man, believing is seeing and seeing is believing. In the
early Church, another name for Baptism was Illumination.
It was called Illumination because the Sacrament
illuminated or flooded the mind with the light of Christ.
We are called to move from partial illumination to full
illumination. The man born blind receives a spiritual
insight, that of faith, as we do through Baptism. How is
God illuminating your mind to the truths that he reveals?
As we enter the 4th week of Lent, it is a time to renew our
Lenten commitment to draw closer to Christ. Our Lent is to
prepare us to celebrate the Lord’s dying and rising in the
Easter Triduum (The Three Days). Plan this year to
participate in one or all of the Three Days which are the
most important days of the Church’s liturgical year.
2015 Bishop’s Lenten Appeal
For the Bishop’s Lenten A ppeal, we
have 1,280 pledges, for a total of
$362,162. This is 93% of our parish
goal of $390,000. Thank you to all
who have responded. Pledge
envelopes are available in the church vestibule. Offices and
ministries receiving funding from the 2015 Bishop’s Lenten
Appeal include: The Spanish Apostolate and the Office of
Multicultural
Ministries,
which
promotes
the
evangelization, education, and pastoral needs of the Hispanic
Catholics in our diocese. 36 parishes currently offer Spanish
Mass. The Office of Multicultural Ministries supports the
many ethnic communities within our diocese. • Diocesan/
Parish Properties and Land Development. The diocese
acquires land that is granted to newly founded parishes for
their parish grounds. • Diocesan Communications Office. The
Office of Communications uses a variety of media to promote,
educate and evangelize the faithful and wider community;
coordinates and promotes the Lenten initiative The Light is
On for You, where parishes stay open on Wednesday evenings
to offer the Sacrament of Reconciliation; and bring pertinent
news stories to the public while forging closer links and
greater awareness among members of our diocesan family.

scheduled Confession times, the Sacrament of Penance will
be held every Wednesday during Lent from 6:30pm –
8:00pm in every Catholic church in the Diocese of
Arlington and the Archdiocese of Washington. Learn more

On Monday, March 16th at 7:30PM at Manassas City Hall,
9027 Center St., Manassas, there will be a presentation of
proposed new zoning regulations for the City of
Manassas to include medical facilities such as abortion
clinics and outpatient surgery centers (but not doctors and
dentists offices). Although the proposed new zoning would
require a special use permit and public hearing for such
medical facilities in some locations, they would grant a “by
right” designation in others, which would allow an abortion
clinic to open in some areas of the City of Manassas
without advance notice to nearby homes and businesses.
Manassas residents and others who patronize businesses in
the City may support a proposal that any new zoning
regulations should require abortion clinics and similar
facilities to obtain a special use permit and have a public
hearing before opening in any area of the City.
There is a public comment period of the meeting. To
comment at the meeting, one may sign up in City Hall
before the meeting or call the city manager’s office at 703257-8212 before 5:00PM and ask to be put on the list. When
your name is called, go to the podium, give your name and
address, and speak for up to 3 minutes.
