dog sterilization activity.
“Presently, the civic dog sterilization center at Turbhe is able to

raised to at least 1,500

Responding to the demand, DMC (Adminis-

said that the administration is considering a
proposal for establishing sterilization centers

added.
In the end, the Committee approved a dozen proposals totally

NMMC to erect ramblers
along Palm Beach Road
By Chandrashekhar Hendve
VASHI: 13-km long
Palm Beach Road
between the Sector-17
Vashi and Kille
Gaothan in Belapur is
considered the pride of
Navi Mumbai. Seeing
it width and smooth
surface, the motorists
tend to over speed on
this stretch which in
turn results in grave
accidents. The administration should build
ramblers on both sides
of the road wherever
there are traffic
signals. “That will
hopefully ensure
accident free drive on
the road,” said former
corporator Namdev
Bhagat.” NMMC
should take up the
work on an urgent
basis,” he added.

By Vijay Bhor
NERUL: residents of
Sector-50, Nerul
Seawood resorted to a
day’s protest fast to
oppose the allotment
of a plot for a Masjid
in the vicinity. The
plot has been allotted

Welfare Association.
The residents went on
with the protest in
spite of the police
refusing permission for
the same.
The plot in question
is 1,042 sq meters and
is situated on the main
road. “An adjoining
plot is reserved for a
women’s hostel. Hence
we are opposed to the
allotment,” said Adv
Borhade who is
spearheading the
protest. Finally, the
police intervened and
arranged a meeting
between the protesters
and the Social Service
Officer of CIDCO, Ms
Rima Dixit. “We give
15 days to CIDCO to

said Borhade.

NMMC falls short of ` 913 cr
revenue as of Jan’15
By Umesh Parida
NAVI MUMBAI: The
Navi Mumbai Municipal Corporation is falling short of a hefty revenue collection as per
the figures up to January 2015 of the current
fiscal year. Against the
targeted receipt for ten
months, the NMMC
was found falling short
by Rs 913 cr.
According to the detailed figure given to
corporator Rangnath K
Auti, the civic body as
per budgetary target is
supposed to collect Rs
2015 cr in the fiscal
year 2014-15. As of end
January 2015 the col-
Two more months to go
lection stood at Rs 1112
cr. The shortfall stands
at Rs 913.cr.
The LBT department has achieved Rs
577 cr against target of
Rs 811 cr. The property
tax department has collected Rs 308 cr against
Rs 530 cr. Similarly the
development tax collection has recorded a
short fall of Rs 113.8 cr.
The water tax department also recorded Rs
34 cr shortfall. The
Morbe dam project is
hovering with Rs 34cr
less than expected income.
The major point of
the loan which was expected to make the deficit was Rs 201 cr which
only stands at Rs 71 cr
thus registering a
shortfall of Rs 129 cr.
Going by the figures, all
the thirteen headings
have shown less collection figure. This probably is the reason behind
the next year budgetary
estimates reduced. The
collection shortfall has
become a headache. The
LBT department is expected to reach the target by the end of the fiscal year.

World Kidney Day – Kidney
Health For All
Fast growing Kidney diseases on the rise in our country
By Dilip Sengupta
People born on 3rd,

them very creative and
expressive and cultivate some artistic outlets that stirs their
imagination. There
may be times, especially if they are painful
ones, when they prefer
to float over the conflict. Maintain focus in
the midst of their
flights of fancy. They
should avoid histrionics and get on with
their work at hand. Follow their dream!
Born on 12 th: You
will go through a pleasing trend since you are
now able to enjoy life,
laughter, love and all
the good things that life
has to offer. You are in
an enviable phase, and
thank the Lord Almighty for it. You are
calm and composed
this week. You have
achieved much and are
content. You turn to
prayer, spirituality and
meditations. You get
contemplative and look
within for more profound answers. You are
in a mood of thanksgiving and contentment. On the flip side,
there are mounting
expenses and other
worries. But you have
the mental strength

with aplomb. You will

spiritual reservoir. You
realize that there is
power above and will

This is a unique phase
in which material and

levels.
In this phase, in an

NAVI MUMBAI: The developing technology, the
faster moving world and
the changing lifestyle
are all leading the humans to a new era. But
the world is still lacking
in the case of health.
Even after a lot of new
developments in the
field of medical science
people are still falling
preys to deadly diseases.
In India, people suffer through a lot of different diseases and
many die due to no proper facility or medication.
Many diseases are taking root and so are the
diseases related to kidney. Dehydration, less
intake of water and infections to the kidney
may all lead to kidney
being severely damaged.
More than 2 lakh people
every year are falling
prey to kidney failure in
our country.
The kidneys play key
roles in body function,
not only by filtering the
blood and getting rid of
waste products, but also
by balancing the electrolyte levels in the
body, controlling blood
pressure, and stimulating the production of red
blood cells. Kidney
problems are leading to
various kidney diseases and even chronic renal failure which in
turn can be dangerous
to life. Loose motion,
vomiting and dehydration can all lead to kidney failure if neglected
and not treated in time.
Dr. Atul Ingale,
Nephrologist at Hospital, Vashi, said, “Normally people neglect
the fact of having a serious disease and treat
the condition as a normal problem. Kidney in
a person can be damaged overnight and lead
to acute renal failure is
not treated in time.
Proper medication is
required for problems
related to kidney.
Drinking
ample
amount of water, having
a proper diet and visiting a doctor for proper
medication can help
keep your kidney
healthy.”
Dr Smita Naram
said, “Ayurveda generally states that following
a lifestyle and diet according to your body
constitution is essential
for maintaining good
mental and physical
health. More and more
people these days are
opting for ayurveda as it
has no side effects and a
long time cure. Even for
kidney
problems,
ayurveda has many
treatments and even
yoga exercises that can
help them cure. So more
and more people should
take the benefit of
ayurveda and make it a
part of our life.”
Kidney problems are
taking on in the race
against many other diseases and kidney failure
is on the rise. On this
world kidney day we
wish ‘Kidney Health for
ALL’ not only in India
but across the world.
Keeping the kidney
healthy will help us
keep our body function
smoothly.

The real issues
Elections to Navi Mumbai Municipal Corporation are almost upon us and it will not be out of
place to enumerate the real issues before the electorate. Fortunately, the civic body is one of the richest if one goes by the per capita income earned by
it. That happened because the planned city was built
by CIDCO, a professional body and there was little
scope for political interference. A lot of middle class
people came to take up residence here and they
willingly paid their taxes. The only thing they are
seeking is good governance. That unfortunately is
missing. Probably, the most blatant misuse of municipal funds is taking place in the award of civic
contracts. Good footpaths are broken and rebuilt
under pressure from the local representatives. That
is because there is a cut to be made from each contract. The so called beautification projects are probably the most exploited. There are no standards
for calculating the cost of such works; the rock
garden, the Wonders Park and numerous beautification projects for talaos or lakes are the living
examples. The civic body is said to be eager to develop a bird sanctuary in Airoli which can be another project with questionable benefits.
Hawkers offer yet another avenue for corruption. In fact, no hawker comes into being without
someone taking interest in him. In other words, a
hawker is the finest incarnation of corruption. He
owes his existence to bribe and encourages it to
flourish through out. The main thoroughfares were
built with lots of open spaces which beckon at the
hawkers from far and near. They clog the main
roads during peak hours making it difficult for
people to walk. The civic officials seem to be there
only to ensure their wellbeing.
For almost 18 months, there was no provision
for garbage collection and disposal. The civic body
rejected the bid offering to do the job for Rs 7.5
crores only to award it nearly two years later for
about Rs 125 crores. Has anyone heard of 80 odd
contracts being signed for solid waste collection?
Not even the opposition members are interested in
raising the issue because they are also offered their
share in the largess.
Yet another organization run most inefficiently
is Navi Mumbai Municipal Transport. When thousands of people are hankering to have a bus running deep into MIDC area, NMMT offers none. Instead, any number of services are run into the villages where there are few passengers. NMMC’s
social welfare programmes are another farce. No
one can ensure the welfare of poor people by distributing cash or items like sewing machines or
bicycles. Once, a diligent reporter went round with
the list of beneficiaries of one such programme circulated by the civic body; the whole list turned out
to be fake. Not one person had attended the ‘training programme’ conducted by the civic body over
which a few lakh rupees had been spent. When
there are any number of social organizations conducting mass marriages free of cost, NMMC offers
cash assistance to the widows who have their daughters to be married off! Why not ask them to join
the mass marriages? Let us hope that good governance become the central point in the coming election.

progress and earnings. Librans know what
the good life means and come into their
own when there is peace and harmony.
Don’t sacrifice mental peace for monetary
and material gains, however tempting they
may be.
This is a grand phase. You feel good
about life and about yourself and will be
able to follow your heart and your true inclinations. Moonlight and roses, love and
story book romance, leisure and pleasure
are what this week has in store for you.
Financial pressures ease and there is luck
in dealing with funds and investments; you
may even take risks in speculations and
gambling, with some success too. You are
empowered in this phase to take risks with
both your money and your emotions. But
the Lord Almighty warns you that it would
be wise not to play too fast and loose with
someone you cherish. Keep a handle on
your euphoria and don’t go overboard.
There are pitfalls, tread carefully. As we
all know, all that glitters is not gold!
You are now back into the nitty-gritty
of day to day life. It is a drain on your creativity and a grind, but you handle it gracefully. While in this mode, you are also
drawn to spiritual pursuits, meditation and
higher truths. You will seek a deeper meaning to life, far higher than a daily toil.
There will be the demands of family work
and your own inner life. The Lord also says
that there may be or could be travel and
short journeys which are both productive
and relaxing. You will get work done and
also make contact with people both socially and professionally. You will reach out,
display, awesome skills and achieve a lot.
Very little can hold you back in this phase.
‘Have a pleasant week’ are my wishes

Businessman looted The mystery of theft in police station solved
by duo on mo-bike Constable in charge of the strong room taken into custody
By Vikram Gaikwad
NAVI MUMBAI: Two men on the mo-bike snatched
the bag containing Rs 20 lakhs from the hand of a
businessman. This incident took place on Tuesday evening at APMC Market. APMC police have
registered criminal case against the two looters
and have started a search for them.
Hairsh Gagal is the resident of Kamothe Sector 36 and he has a Zerox Shop at APMC regions.
He wanted to purchase a new Zerox machine.
Hence he withdrew Rs 20 lakhs from the bank on
Tuesday evening. He then put the amount in a
bag and went out of the bank. While he was walking near the Central Facility Building at APMC
market, two persons on Pulsar mo-bike came close
to him and snatched the bag containing Rs 20
lakhs from his hand and fled from the spot. Harish did cry out for help but the two looters had
disappeared by the time the help arrived. Harish
Gagal then made his way to APMC police station
and lodged a complaint. The police then registered
a criminal case of looting against the two unidentified culprits and started a hunt for them.

Dhoni demonstrates
leadership qualities
With fifth win in a row and nine wins on the
trot Mahendra Singh Dhoni’s team has achieved 9
consecutive wins in World cup history and they
are in for 10th win in a row after the last match against Zimbabwe. In the
fifth victory against Ireland, M S Dhoni
equalled West Indies legend Clive Llyod’s
tally. With overall wins of 12 matches in
World cup MS Dhoni has achieved most
wins under any captain a unique record. He
is now Captain Marvel of Indian Team.
Over and above he achieved T-20 World
cup win 2007, and the 2011 World cup win
in India - all add to his stature of the most
successful captain. With 98 wins under his
belt he is behind Hansie Cronje with 99 wins in 136 matches in one-day
cricket. Ponting stands first followed by Allan Border - both from Australia with over 100 wins. Dhoni toppled Sourav Ganguly’s tally of wins in
World cup also.
In all he is captain courageous and has achieved facile wins in his
illustrious career. Dhoni demonstrates his leadership qualities in great
measure and he is the brain behind most of the wins and as a batsman he
was able to finish a number of matches with clinical hitting during the
end overs of the match with calculated hitting that paved the way for
Indian wins.

Where is the need of Ladies special train?
Ladies special local trains between Panvel and Thane run with very
few commuters. I have observed that 9.14 hours ladies special from Thane
bound for Panvel and ladies special at 17.42 hrs from Panvel bound for
Thane run with very few commuters.
In the morning, from Thane for Panvel, 8.03 hrs slow is followed by
9.00 hrs fast, then 9.14 hrs (ladies), then 10.00 hrs slow. In the evening,
from Panvel for Thane, 16.37 hrs slow is followed by 17.42 hrs (ladies),
then 18.26 hrs fast and then 18.52 hrs slow. With so much gaps in the
time table, is it necessary to run empty ladies specials?
CR should first increase the number of locals between Thane and Panvel (now it is run once in one hour or more), before running ladies specials. If it is not possible, then CR should convert ladies specials to locals
for both male and females. Running empty ladies specials during peak
hours is sheer waste of resources for CR and sheer frustration for commuters.

nals used to be kept.
The incident had
taken place in March
2014 and the investigators have been
groping in the dark
ever since. They
meticulously scanned
the crime register
and interrogated
every known criminal
but to no avail. Then
they turned their
attention to the
staffers and decided to
subject each one to
brain mapping and lie
detector tests. But
that was objected to
by some personnel.
Notwithstanding
that, the officials
sought permission
from the court and
even subjected some
of them to the tests.
When nothing came
out of it, they turned
their attention to the
person in charge of the
strong room. Secretly
they collected information about his habits
and movements. In
course of time, they
came to know that the
man in charge,
Subhash Konkani was
given to gambling.
They also put together
details about the
places he frequented
and obtained his
(mobile) call records
also. After fortifying
themselves in this
manner, they came to
the conclusion that
the culprit is none
other than Konkani
and detained him on
Tuesday night.
Konkani’s bank

he had deposited a

his account soon after
the incident but had
withdrawn it soon
afterwards. Investigators also came back
with the report that
he had repaid a sum of

have proved to be

“Konkani was

NAVI MUMBAI: Citizens of all faiths,

together to stop hate
campaign and focus on
development and good
governance under ‘We
Are One’ on Saturday,
March 14, 2015 from
6.00 pm to 6.15 pm
There have been an
increasing number of
crimes perpetrated on
the minorities and communalization of the
country by certain
groups.
“We expect the Government must take responsibility and strongly admonish individuals and groups who are
creating communal divide in the country.
Make plans to curb religious extremism of all
shades in the countries.
Punish those responsible for attacks on minorities and their institutions, which is also
an attack on the multicultural body politic of
India. Swift, transparent and credible trial
and punishment for all
those involved in such
activities whatever the
religion they may profess” said Albun Dsouza, Chairman, Bombay
Catholic Sabha, Koperkhairne.
Talking to Dr. Jayakar Ellis, General Secretary - India, National Christian Council,
he said “Citizens at
large are pained at the
developments and wish
to express their hurt
feelings. Hence the Human Chain is being
planned as a form of
Peaceful Protest and
send a strong message
to the government to
address the situation.”
“The purpose of the
Human Chain to express to one and all that
Unity in the country is
of paramount importance for the progress
and peace of its citizen.
Divisive politics and
communalization of the
country is taking the
country backward. Too
many hate campaigns
and statements (including vandalisation of
Churches) have been
made in the last two
and a half months that
is hurting the peaceful
nature of our country”
he added.
“Since White is a
colour symbolizing
peace, participants of
the Human Chain will
be wearing white as
part of their attire for
the Human Chain as
far as possible. The area
of human chain would
be from Vashi to Airoli
passing Ghansoli and
Rabale” said Satyaprakash Pandey, a
resident of Koper
Khairne.
“We, the people of
Navi Mumbai and the
rest of India who have
seen hatred and bloodshed in our city, pledge
that we will not give in
to demonization of religions and to those who
preach war, violence,
hatred and intolerance.
We undertake to keep
our city peaceful and
united. We commit to
building a world based
