PROM! PROM! PROM!
As most of you may know,
prom is being held at Busch
Stadium this year. The price for
any Dupo student to attend prom
will be $40. If anyone would like
to bring a guest that no longer
goes to Dupo or attends a
different school the price will be
$50 each. The ballroom that
prom will be held in is the Cardinal Club, which Mrs. Conway
stated is “very elegant!” Prom will start at 6pm and end at
10pm. Coronation will be held on the warning track of the
field and will start at promptly 9:15pm. The students will be
sitting in the green seats in the stands. Mrs. Conway said what
would be inside of our prom bags is “top secret!” The dinner
that we will all have is going to be a buffet. We will have a
photo booth and a professional photographer taking pictures
on the warning track.

Dodgeball Tournament
By: Chase Ragsdale
ROTC hosted a dodgeball tournament on Friday, March 13th
after school at 5p.m. There were 5 people to a team, which was a
mixture of boys and girls. Some teams had all boys and some teams
had all girls and even teachers. Each player had to bring ten food
items in order to play. The dodgeball tournament was held in the
little gym. This event was a fundraiser for Dukare.
Dupo Breaks the Ice!
The Carlyle Lake Polar Plunge had
476 Plungers who raised $95,850. Dupo
High School brought home bragging rights
for raising the most money and for having
the biggest school team. Dupo raised
$1,265 for the Special Olympics Illinois.
Thank you to all who donated and
participated in the 2015 Polar Plunge!

Another Successful Season
By: Lana Crouch
The dancers brought home a third place
victory! The dancers prepared for competitions by
practicing three days a week at the school and
everyday at home. They also practice by performing
at the boys home basketball games. The hard work
paid off because the girls qualified for state.
On February 14, 2015, the dancers competed
in Springfield and won third place in Class A Hip
Hop. The dancers finished off their season by
performing at the last home basketball game of the
season, which was also senior night for the
cheerleaders, dancers, and basketball players. Great
job ladies!

Girls on Track
By: Kayla Hamilton
Girls on Track is a group of junior high girls who get mentored by a group of
high school girls. The group gets together and trains for a 5K. During the time they
are training, the girls all get together and have talks. The program is mainly to
empower the girls and help the girls develop confidence.
Overtime, they form a bond and work together to get good
times on their 5K. Training for the 5K is priority, especially
since it takes place on May 9th.

Wrapping Up The Season
On February 17th the boys had their senior night and recognized their five seniors as well
as the dance team and cheerleaders’ seniors. The starting line-up and the seniors were: Joey
Mirabal, Evan Schmidt, Josh Jordan, Drake Law, and Xavier Malone. The boys played hard but
fell short to the Lebanon Greyhounds with a final score of 67-44.
The boys played their last game, February 23, at the Piasa regional against the Gillispie
Miners. Right from the tip off the boys kept up with the Miners. But, then one of the main
starters, Tony Cozart, got injured in the second quarter, which really hurt the team from then on.
Sadly, the boys fought hard but fell short to the Miners with the final score being 73-54.
The boys had four of their teammates going to regional to compete for the three point shoot
out. The four boys were, Joey Mirabal, Collin Roth, Austin Francis, and Jimmy Mantz.
They wrapped their season up with a final record of 6-20. They had a good season and
improved immensely. Good job boys and good luck next season.
Baseball
By: Cierra Lauman
Training for this upcoming season has begun. The boys and Coach Daubach have been in
the weight room every Tuesday and Thursday after school. Anything new this season you ask?
The team now has a new batting cage with all new netting and turf. They also got an outdoor
speaker system. Tryouts were held March 2nd and 3rd. Coach Daubach did not cut anyone from
the team. They have 13 returning players, including five seniors: Lohnnie Thornton, Jake
Williams, Joey Mirabal, Jason Smith, and Matt Perez. Their first game is at home on March 19th
against Bunker Hill at 4:30.

With the 2015 track season now in motion, Coach Acra
has nothing but high hopes for a reloading team. They are
returning a talented group of seniors with a lot of personal
goals and expectations. Coach Acra believes the seniors and
juniors will be great leaders and role models for the
underclassmen. “There is a definite building process from the
older athletes to the younger ones.” The athletes have worked
hard all off-season with attendance close to 90%.
There are currently 36 boys and girls on the team and
Coach Acra loves the participation and interest this sport has
gained in the last couple of years. Coach Acra believes there are a solid number of runners and
throwers who have a chance to qualify for state. Robby Cunningham and Kim Bennett both
were inches away from making it to state last year in their events. Coach Acra says Robby has
put in the time in the weight room to become a sure state contender and top athlete for the team.
Evan Schmidt is among the top distance runners for the team this year and Coach believes Evan
could have a big year, despite the amount of competition in distance running.
For the girls, the top distance runners are Shana Foster, Taylor Vaughan, and Kailey
Heusohn. These three ran cross country in the fall so Coach Acra has higher expectations for
them. Alyssa Strubberg is the top sprinter returning this year. She finished 4th in the conference
at the 100m race. A couple of new meets have been added to the upcoming season, including
March 14th at Principia College in Elsah, Illinois. The first home meet is March 18th, so come
out and support the team!
Softball is in the Air
By: Denna Ashcraft
The sound of a bat hitting a ball; girls yelling and
encouraging their teammates; dirt and dust flying up. You
know what that means? Its softball season!
The season started March 2nd with tryouts, there were
some new additions, and others were returning players.
When asked about what exceptions Coach Roney had
for the upcoming season, she said “The expectations are the
same as last year; I hope we are able to return to state again,
and we had only lost one starter who happened to be Sissy
Brown.” So come out and support your Lady Tigers as their
first game is home on March 19th against Bunker Hill at 4:30.
