R esident of the Month: Barbara Jean Stettnisch, “BJ” The March wind roars like a lion in the sky, and makes us shiver as he passes by. When winds are soft, and the days are warm and clear, just like a gentle lamb, then spring is here. Author unknown. March has finally arrived and our resident of the month, Barbara Jean Stettnisch, “BJ”, is also here and is a wonderful addition to our family. BJ was born in Lakewood Hospital on May 12, 1926. She was an only child and had a wonderful childhood. She was raised in the city Lakewood and attended Lakewood schools. In 1944, BJ graduated from Lakewood High. While in high school, she babysat to earn money and was lucky enough to meet and marry her high school sweetheart, Robert. After high school, Robert joined the Army and BJ joined the Cadet Nursing Corp. for three years. This program was created by congresswoman Frances Payne Bolton. She implemented this government program so current nurses working could go overseas or remain stateside to provide care for our serviceman. The nurses who graduated thru the cadet nursing program would then replace the nurses who left and continue the care here at home. After graduating as an RN from St. Luke’s Hospital, BJ was sent on affiliation at Rainbow’s Children Hospital for pediatrics and then to the Cleveland Psychiatric Institute for mental illness. She worked full time for awhile and then continued her career part time at Fairview Hospital, Lakewood Hospital in pediatrics and then finally at Aristocrat West. BJ gave many hours to the workforce and to her home life. After marrying Robert and continuing her life in Lakewood, BJ and Robert raised three children: Richard, Jo Ann and Cliff. They lived in a bungalow on 157th Street in Cleveland. Their children were raised in Cleveland and also attended Cleveland schools. She was a busy lady working inside and outside the home. She loved every minute of it! When she did have March Special Events During the month of March we celebrate a wide variety of special events. March is Girl Scout Month; Irish-American Heritage Month; Women’s History Month; Craft Month; Dominoes Month; Music Therapist Month; Nutrition Month; and Social Workers Month just to name a few. Girl Scout Troop #70200 will be back to play cards & games, including Dominoes on Sunday, March 8th at 1:30pm in 3CR. O’Neill Healthcare North Olmsted will be celebrating St Patrick’s Day with a social and of course green beer and root beer for those who are not as brave. Nutrition Month To educate consumers about the importance of good nutrition by providing the latest practical information on how simple it can be to eat healthy. It is sponsored by the American Dietetic Association and Dietitians of Canada. The 2015 theme for National Nutrition Month is “Bite Into a Healthy Lifestyle.” Did you know that the food pyramid guide to good nutrition has been replaced with the Food Plate? free time, BJ loved to ride her bicycle in the metro parks, crochet and knit. She also was a Sunday school superintendent. In this position, BJ would supervise the Sunday school teachers. Robert, her husband, kept busy working as a printing ink maker at Morrison Printing Inc.. In addition to his full time job, Robert also worked to help make prosthetics. He had a natural ability to do this because he was a wood carver in his free time. He was a very gifted wood carver and BJ is very proud of his talent. BJ has fond memories of her life with Robert and her children. She feels she has led a happy, wonderful life and feels blessed to continue her happiness with her granddaughter Nicole who attends LCC. She also has a special place in her heart for her grandson, Shawn, who passed away. Here at Wellington Place, she enjoys all the activities, loves talking to everyone, and enjoys the rides thru the metro parks. So next time your discussing March’s weather, visit with BJ and you will see firsthand that she is as gentle and kindhearted as the lamb that leaves March. We would also like to take this time to spotlight our Dietetic Technician Registered, Debbie Yarnell. Dietian’s Day is also celebrated in March. It is on March 11th. In honor of Nutrition Month and healthier eating O’Neill Healthcare will once again be having our weekly questions about nutrition and food on our AL and Skilled Activity boards to win prizes. Correct answers will be placed into a bucket and a weekly winner will be drawn. New questions will be posted every Monday and winners will be drawn that week on Friday around 12pm noon. Good Luck! Not to be left out, March is also Social Worker’s Month. Erin Leiby, LSW is O’Neill Healthcare North Olmsted’s very own Social Worker. Erin has been here helping our Residents for about 2 ½ years. She has been in the field for about 10 years. Erin has a BA in Social Work; Health & Human Services; and a Literary Art Degree. She is currently working on her Masters at Youngstown State University. She has been married to Ray for 8 years and they have one son, Ethan and a chocolate lab named Gage. In Erin’s spare time, she enjoys reading, making crafts, traveling, writing poetry, and collecting and refinishing antiques. Erin stated, “It is a joy and privilege to work with others.” Erin’s patients agree, she is very compassionate and is always willing to help others. 4800 Clague Road North Olmsted, OH 44070 For more information on our facilities, call (440) 808-5500 or visit us on the web at ONeillHC.com BAY VILLAGE - 605 Bradley Road • FAIRVIEW PARK - 20770 Lorain Road • LAKEWOOD - 13900 Detroit Avenue NORTH OLMSTED - 4800 Clague Road • NORTH RIDGEVILLE - 38600 Center Ridge Road It’s Baseball Time…….
