PRAYER UPON ENTERING: O Lord God, You led Your ancient people
through the wilderness and brought them to the promised land. Guide the
people of Your Church that following our Savior we may walk through the
wilderness of this world toward the glory of the world to come; through
Jesus Christ, Your Son, our Lord, who lives and reigns with You and the Holy
Spirit, one God, now and forever. Amen.
WELCOME: We cordially welcome you to the Lord's Service. If you are
worshipping with us for the first time, the following suggestions may be
helpful to you:
Put your bulletin in the back of the hymnal. A panel will stick out on the
right side with the Order of Service. By doing this, both hands are free to
find the liturgy and hymns.
Large print bulletins and hearing devices are available. Please ask an usher
for assistance.
The Music Room, the room to your right before entering the sanctuary,
is available for parents with small children who need to step out during
the service. The service is televised in the Music Room.
The time before the service is a time of prayer and preparation to receive
the Lord’s gifts of salvation. In addition to prayer, look over the readings
and the words to the hymns during this preparation time.
Please turn off all cell phones and refrain from taking pictures during the
service. Thank you.
GUESTS AND THE LORD'S SUPPER: If you desire to commune, please speak
to one of the pastors before the service. Our altar is open to those who
confess oneness with us in doctrine, are members of our congregation or
sister congregations of the Lutheran Church-Missouri Synod, and are not
under church discipline in another congregation.
Stewardship Thought for the week...
Mark 10:45 “For even the Son of Man came not to be served but to serve,
and to give his life as a ransom for many.” Jesus gives everything He has: He
gives Himself. That self-giving is the model for our giving in all aspects of
our lives. In our family, in our church, and in the world at large, Jesus calls us
to follow His example in self-giving. We can only do this if we are connected
to His self-giving in faith.

A BIG, BIG THANK YOU to everyone who help in so many ways with the
visiting high school choir. We are grateful to those who unselfishly opened
their homes, made phone calls, prepared and served meals, grilled brats and
hamburgers, made potato salad, baked sweets and helped furnish our guests
with lunches to go.
LENTEN SERVICES: Please join us for midweek Lenten Services on
Wednesdays at 10 am or 6:30 pm. A soup luncheon will follow the morning
service in the gym and a lighter supper will be held before the evening service
beginning at 5:30 pm in the Fellowship Hall.
HOLY WEEK SERVICES: Maundy Thursday Services are April 2 at 10 am and
6:30 pm. Good Friday Services are April 3 at 1 pm and 7 pm. Easter Sunday
Service are April 5 at 6:30 am, 8:30 am and 10:30 am. The 6:30 am Sunrise
Service begins in the gym. The church office will be closed Good Friday and
Easter Monday.
INDIVIDUAL CONFESSION AND ABSOLUTION: Individual Confession and
Absolution times for Lent are 9am – 9:45am Wednesday mornings and 5:30pm
– 6:15pm in the Evening at the communion rail in the church. Individual
Confession and Absolution may also be scheduled by appointment with the
pastors. To learn more about it and how it works look on pages 292-293 in the
hymnal. As preparation you may find the publication “Self-Examination and
Reflection: The Ten Commandments preach Repentance; that is, by them God
shows us our sin and how much we need a Savior,"" helpful. This publication
can be found at the various entrances to the sanctuary. May God bless this

Jeremiah 31:31–34 31“Behold, the days are coming, declares the LORD,

Hebrews 5:1–10 1For every high priest chosen from among men is

Mark 10:35–45 35And James and John, the sons of Zebedee, came up to

one at your left, in your glory.” 38Jesus said to them, “You do not know

Notes on Today’s Divine Service
Treasures from the Church: “St. James was indeed to have his glory. He
was to be at the top of the heap, at the front of the line, at the head of the
table, the very first of the twelve, in fact, to die as a martyr in the service of
the Lord Jesus. What a change in priority! No more was James selfishly
seeking the praise of men, rather in praising His Lord, he was willing to be
arrested, humiliated, and put to death. Truly, he did drink the Lord’s cup
and was baptized with the Lord’s baptism. By God’s grace, he was able.” Rev. Larry Beane
Readings: Jesus catechizes His disciples in the way of the cross, revealing
that He will be condemned and put to death “and after three days he will
rise” (Mark 10:33–34). But the Twelve do not understand. Instead, they argue
among themselves about who will be the greatest, with James and John
requesting the places of honor on either side of Jesus in His glory. However,
Jesus has come to make Himself the “slave of all” and “to give his life as a
ransom for many” (Mark 10:43–45). He shares the true glory of His cross
with all who are baptized with His Baptism and with those who drink His
cup of salvation, the New Testament in His blood (Mark 10:39). By these Holy
Sacraments, the Lord makes Himself known to all His people, forgiving their
sins “from the least of them to the greatest” (Jer. 31:33–34). Though He is the
very Son of God, “he learned obedience through what he suffered” and so
became our great High Priest, that we may enter His glory by the way of His
sacrifice (Heb. 5:8–10).
The Divine Service – Table fellowship at the Lord’s Supper: The Lord’s
Supper is celebrated at this congregation in the confession and glad
confidence that, as he says, our Lord gives into our mouths not only bread
and wine but his very body and blood to eat and to drink for the forgiveness
of sins and to strengthen our union with him and with one another. Our
Lord invites to his table those who trust his words, repent of all sin, and set
aside any refusal to forgive and love as he forgives and loves us, that they
may show forth his death until he comes. Because those who eat and drink
our Lord’s body and blood unworthily do so to their great harm and because
Holy Communion is a confession of the faith which is confessed at this altar,
any who are not yet instructed, in doubt, or who hold a confession differing
from that of this congregation and The Lutheran Church— Missouri Synod,
and yet desire to receive the sacrament, are asked first to speak with the
pastor or an usher. For further study, see Matthew 5:23f.; 10:32f.; 18:15-35;
26:26-29; 1 Cor. 11:17- 34.
Sermon: What’s in the cup? More than you see or realize. James and John
thought that they could drink from the same cup as Jesus as a way of
gaining glory for themselves. But the cup from which Jesus’ drank was
something quite different. It was filled with the vinegar of suffering and
death. Jesus drank from it on the cross to gain glory not for Himself, but
for a fallen humanity. The cup that Jesus drinks, James and John and you
and me do also now drink - only now it has been transformed by the glory of
the cross, that it be now for us a cup no longer filled with wrath and
condemnation and death, but now filled with the life-giving blood of Christ,
that we may live in His forgiveness and salvation.

ALZHEIMER INFORMATION PRESENTATION: St. Mark Lutheran Church

dementia. Information will be shared how dementia affects the brain
and discuss tips and techniques to help days go by more smoothly.
