Unfortunately, the other meaning of this proverb is a bit less refreshing-sounding. Often used after the phrase “futari no aida ni” ( “between the two of them” ), this proverb means that the romantic relationship between two people has begun to cool or take a turn for the worse. While “aki” ( 秋 ) means “autumn,” another “aki” ( 飽き ) means “to grow tired of,” and so this phrase means that two lovers have grown tired of each other. So, remember to be thankful to your friends, family, boyfriends, girlfriends—everyone around you, to avoid this sort of “aki kaze!” HELLO WORK FUKUYAMA Hello Work provides advice and services to arrange employment for foreign nationals. Butter Mochi Last month I introduced a recipe for pumpkin mochi, and this month I have a recipe for something similar--butter mochi! Maybe include it in your Japanese Thanksgiving dinner as a substitute for apple pie! Ingredients (makes two dozen pieces): ------ 3 1/2 cups mochiko (sweet rice flour) 2 1/2 cups white sugar 2 tablespoons baking powder 5 eggs 1 teaspoon coconut extract -- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract -- 2 cups milk -- 1 (14 ounce) can coconut milk -- 1/2 cup melted butter Directions: 1. Preheat oven to 350 degrees Fahrenheit (175 degrees Celsius). Grease a 9x13 inch baking dish. Whisk the rice flour, sugar, and baking powder together in a mixing bowl. 2. Beat the eggs, coconut extract, and vanilla extract in a mixing bowl until the eggs are smooth. Whisk in the milk, coconut milk, and melted butter until incorporated. Stir in the flour mixture a little at a time until no lumps remain; scrape into the prepared baking dish, and smooth the top. 3. Bake in the preheated oven until the mochi is golden brown, about 1 hour. Cool to room temperature before cutting into 24 pieces to serve. http://allrecipes.com/Recipe/Butter-Mochi/ HEALTH CONSULTATIONS FOR AUGUST Adult Health Consultations Free health consultations with a health nurse, nutritionist, or dental hygienist available for those 40 years and older at the following location: Afternoon: 1:30 ~ 3:30PM Fukuyama Area 11/19 Fukuyama Sukoyaka Center *Reservations NECESSARY (For more information and to reserve a spot, please call the Health Promotions Division at 084-928-3421, JAPANESE ONLY) Infant Health Consultations Free consultation services for parents who have any concerns about their baby or infant’ s health and well being. But the deal also put both Robinson and Rickey in the firing line of the public, the press and other players. Facing blatant racism from every side, even his own team, Robinson was forced to demonstrate tremendous courage and restraint by not reacting in kind, knowing that any incident could destroy his and Rickey's hopes, but he let his talent on the field do the talking—ultimately winning over fans and his teammates, silencing his critics, and paving the way for others to follow.
