Brief Description of the Institution The University of Salamanca is the second oldest university in Europe (established in 1218). It is regarded as a prestigious university both in Spain and Latin America. The Department of Social Psychology and Anthropology has some 25 faculty members, with a majority of Social Psychologists and some Social Anthropologists. Social psychologists Jaume Masip, Ph.D., and Carmen Herrero, Ph.D., have been conducting research (and teaching) on psychology and law since the 1990s. Most of their research is on verbal and nonverbal detection of deception and police interviewing, but they have also been involved in studies on judicial sentencing, organizational justice, facial composites, and other psychology and law related topics. They have established research collaborations with the National Police School of Spain, some law professors at the University of Salamanca, and reputed foreign scholars in the psychology and law domain. They have a fair amount of peer-reviewed publications in international journals, including top outlets such as Trends in Cognitive Sciences or Personality and Social Psychology Review. 3. Research / Project Description The research fellow would join Dr. Herrero and Dr. Masip’s Psychology and Law research group. Current research in our lab is focusing on testing cognitive models of deception, developing new interviewing approaches to detect deception, deception detection in everyday life, and factors affecting the choice of coercive vs. information-gathering interrogation tactics. 5. Who can apply? At the deadline for the submission of proposals (10/09/2015), researchers (*): shall be in possession of a doctoral degree or have at least four years of full-time equivalent research experience. must not have resided or carried out their main activities in the country of Spain for more than 12 months in the 3 years immediately prior to the abovementioned deadline. must have a background on cognitive or social psychology. prior research experience in deception detection might be considered, as well as statistics and data analysis skills. 6.
