Page 2 of 3 business.unsw.edu.au GDM Class Schedule Session 2, 2015 Last updated: 18/03/15 CRICOS Code: 00098G Descriptions of Course Formats Face-to-face courses are comprised of 12 weekly evening classes of 90 minutes in duration. In addition to weekly classes, there are typically two half-day Saturday workshops. Attendance is expected at all classes and workshops. Course resources and some learning activities may be accessible through Moodle (which replaces Blackboard, the University’s previous online learning management system). Courses may have a final exam. Intensive (INT) courses consist of two intensive weekend workshops during the session. These weekend workshops are normally held on a Friday evening (6pm-9pm), Saturday (9am-5pm) and Sunday (9am-4pm) at various locations. Attendance at all dates of the intensive workshops for the duration of the workshop is compulsory. Course resources and some learning activities may be accessible through Moodle. Some courses may include teleconferences. Courses may have a final exam. Preparation work, assignments & reading activities are scheduled around the workshops. Online (WEB) courses are delivered in a flexible format and do not have scheduled face-to-face meetings. Readings, learning activities and assessments are accessible online. Students are expected to log on to the course site on a regular basis, i.e. several times each week. Online courses require regular online participation, e.g. posts to discussion threads. Many online courses include prescheduled teleconferences. (Dates and details of the teleconferences will be made available by the instructor prior to the commencement of class). Some online courses may have one or two face-toface workshops, at which attendance is optional. Students who do not attend may be assigned an alternative activity to complete online. These optional face-to-face workshops are 3-3.5 hours in length and held on a Saturday. Workshops will be located at either the AGSM Building on the Kensington campus or the AGSM’s CBD campus. Online courses may have a final exam. Workload and participation: students should expect to spend at least 10 hours per week studying, as for other course formats. The level of participation and contribution to (online) discussions is expected to be similar to that in other course formats. Residentials - the MBA Executive has 3 intensive residential cohort experiences: Foundations of Managerial Skills (FMS), Leadership and the Strategic Management Year (SMY). FMS is the mandatory first course for students entering the MBA (Executive) program. FMS requires attendance at an Orientation Workshop approximately 4 weeks prior to the date of the FMS Residential. Leadership is the mandatory residential which students must apply for and successfully complete prior to the SMY. SMY is the mandatory residential students must successfully complete to achieve their MBA (Executive). All residentials require 100% attendance. For FMS, this includes the Orientation Workshop, as well as the Residential. Please contact the Student Experience Team ([email protected]) for further details. When enrolling in more than one course please review for any clashes and your required attendance at compulsory workshops.
